Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 868: Chapter 551: A White Horse Descends from the Sky

It has been a while since we last met, and Wei Heyun is still the same as before.

Zhou Yun curiously asked, ”What have you been busy with recently?”

Wei Heyun said, ”I worked on two web series, and it was exhausting. I never thought making a show would involve so much bullshit, especially when I had to deal with some idiots. There was a period when I was so angry, I couldn’t even sleep well at night.”

Zhou Yun laughed.

Wei Heyun said, ”You really don’t realize how tough it is until you do it. Now I get why there’s so much hostility towards actors. Some people are really useless, getting paid a lot but doing nothing useful. They ask for leave, come late, don’t act well on set, and even take calls in the middle of filming. I really wanted to slap them.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”And people still dare to act like this in a project you’re handling?”

She originally thought that with Wei Heyun’s status and background, no one would dare to misbehave.

However, Wei Heyun said, ”Don’t even mention it. They all act obedient in front of me, but as soon as I leave, they start messing around. Especially a group of them, all looks but no culture, complete idiots.”

Zhou Yun, hearing how serious Wei Heyun’s account sounded, couldn’t help but wonder, ”What kind of crew did you encounter? Where did you find the actors?”

Wei Heyun replied, ”Found them through various talent agencies. You wouldn’t believe it, a bunch of newly graduated students who know nothing, yet have higher expectations than anyone. They look down on everything, think everything’s unprofessional. In short, they think the crew is too low for future stars like them.”

Zhou Yun couldn’t help but laugh.

”You’re still laughing!” Wei Heyun glared at Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun said, ”What you mentioned is actually quite rare now. I don’t know why you encountered so many oddballs. Nowadays, newcomers are usually very diligent and serious, especially fresh graduates. They might have high aspirations but are definitely not unprofessional. I seriously suspect you hired an unreliable casting team, picking out a bunch of idiots.”

Wei Heyun fell into contemplation, considering the possibility of what Zhou Yun said.

Could he really have been fooled?

Zhou Yun said, ”In a crew nowadays, if one person doesn’t act decently, many things might be just a way for them to pocket money. If you want a role, you have to pay first. If you pay, things get done; if not, even good acting doesn’t matter. The result is a collection of useless individuals.”

Wei Heyun was dumbfounded.

”Damn, they can pull tricks like this.”

”Yeah, it’s like this with casting directors and others too—art, costumes, etc. Substituting quality with inferior, just messing around, cooking the books. They simply say there’s only this much budget so they can only do this much and then they pocket the rest. How the project turns out isn’t their concern. It doesn’t matter how well it airs; they won’t get much benefit from it, so of course they take whatever they can first.”

Wei Heyun shook his head, sighing. ”Anyway, I’ve learned a lot from this experience.”

”As long as you didn’t lose money.”

”Losing money wasn’t an issue,” Wei Heyun said. ”I’ve already sold the show.”

”Then you’re still quite lucky,” Zhou Yun said. ”In this industry, especially with web series, if you don’t control costs well, it’s basically a money-losing business.”

”Outsiders see the excitement and want a share, but if they dive in recklessly, they’ll just hit a wall.”

Wei Heyun felt helpless.

Zhou Yun added, ”But, you learn from your mistakes. After these lessons, you won’t repeat them in the future.”

Wei Heyun said, ”I’m not planning to get into this again. Too much effort for just a small return.”

Zhou Yun thought about it. For film and television producers, perhaps a web series doesn’t earn much.

With similar effort, given Wei Heyun’s background and connections, he could earn more doing something else.

Zhou Yun said, ”Why do you have to personally manage a project? You should leverage your advantages to put together a more successful team.”

”Assemble a team?”

”What are your strengths? Do you know?” Zhou Yun asked.

Wei Heyun thought for a moment and seriously said, ”Because many people in my family work in this industry’s managerial departments?”

”That’s the source, and the core reason. In fact, because of this, you have another more important advantage,” Zhou Yun said. ”Celebrities that others can’t meet, you can. People have to give you face. The film company bosses who others can’t meet, you can have dinner with. Film company bosses have to give you face, too. The connections with the government that others can’t make, you can, because your family backs you up. Your identity is your biggest weapon. I’m not saying you should always use this identity to work, but if you can fully leverage your advantage, you can actually accomplish more, accumulate more networking and experience that are truly yours. Until one day, when your experience is rich enough, and your ability is enough to support a project on your own, then even without relying on your family, you can make it on your own.”
