Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 417: Chapter 308: Strange Keke, the Sudden Whistle

Ji Chaoyang’s words truly surprised Xu Xin.

Although he also suspected that this person was not the plunderer controlling the beast horde, but rather a survivor who had mutated, he had never thought that this matter was connected to the continuous disappearances and deaths of people in the surrounding area.

Could it be that the disappearances in the surrounding area were because the plunderers forced them to mutate into this current state?

No, that’s not right.

Xu Xin looked at the axe in his hand.

The axe indeed belonged to the plunderer’s team, and Ji Chaoyang had also mentioned that those furry creatures would wield axes.

These axes are specially designed to attack treehouses, meaning these furry creatures, these ”plunderers,” would directly chop down treehouses to seize the resources inside.

Ji Chaoyang had told him before that the survivalists in the surrounding area who disappeared or were suddenly removed all left behind a dying treehouse, untouched by any excavation or chopping.

This suggests that those mysterious deaths should not be related to the plunderers.

”Where did you see the connection between the two?” Xu Xin asked, referring to the connection between the person before him and the survivalists who died mysteriously.

”...Wait, what are you talking about?” Qi Xuefei asked in confusion, unaware of what they were discussing.

”Well, I guess I should tell you about this.” Ji Chaoyang prepared to share everything he had discovered with the others. He glanced around, then was taken aback, ”Li Wenxi, is she... asleep?”

Hmm?

Xu Xin looked towards the sofa and saw Li Wenxi holding Keke, leaning against the armrest, her head nodding like a sleepy student in class.

Everyone present exchanged glances and couldn’t help but laugh.

Having been tense all morning, they were indeed very tired, and after a full meal, feeling drowsy was quite normal.

However, everyone present needed to know what was coming next, so she couldn’t continue sleeping.

Xu Xin walked over and patted Li Wenxi’s cheek, ”Wenxi, wake up, don’t sleep.”

But Li Wenxi just softly hummed, smacked her lips a couple of times, and mumbled, ”Can’t eat anymore... too much... but it’s so good...”

Classic sleep-talking making a limited-time return.

Xu Xin sat on the sofa and patted her cheek again, ”Wenxi, wake up, it’s time to get up!”

No matter what he did, Li Wenxi wouldn’t wake up. She even wrapped her arms and legs around him, snuggled into his embrace, and fell asleep again in that position.

Xu Xin: ”...”

If not for all these people around, he really...

However, he immediately noticed something unusual.

He frowned, grabbed Li Wenxi’s shoulders, and shook her a bit, ”Wenxi? Wenxi?”

Still, Li Wenxi didn’t wake up. Instead, Keke, who had been soundly asleep in her arms, slid out due to his movements, falling to the ground with a thud.

”Eep?!” Keke woke up abruptly, jumped up from the ground, ”Eep eep?”

”Pfft, with so many people here, you guys in that position...” Lou Fei’Er laughed and teased as she looked at Li Wenxi clinging to Xu Xin like an octopus.

”Is it that she can’t wake up?” Ji Chaoyang noticed the anomaly and frowned as well.

”Can’t wake up?” Both Lou Fei’Er and Qi Xuefei were shocked and quickly leaned in.

They both tried a variety of methods, much more exaggerated than Xu Xin’s actions, but they still couldn’t wake Li Wenxi up.

She continued to clinging to Xu Xin, sleeping soundly, but her cheeks were flushed from Lou Fei’Er and Qi Xuefei’s efforts.

”What’s going on here?” Xu Xin was also a little panicked.

”Why did Wenxi suddenly fall asleep?” Qi Xuefei frowned, taking out a pill, ”Should we feed her this pill that heals all ailments?”

”Is it... an illness?” Xu Xin was hesitant as Li Wenxi could still sleep-talk, seeming just like she was purely asleep.

Moreover, the pill could cause weakness. Although the beast tide had passed, who knew when it would return, so it was better not to take it if it wasn’t necessary.

”Eep?” Keke climbed up the sofa and stood up, tilting its little head, nudging Li Wenxi with its tiny paw.

”Mm...” Li Wenxi let out a low moan, rubbed against Xu Xin’s embrace twice, and slowly opened her eyes.

Then she realized everyone around was standing and looking in her direction, while she was tangled awkwardly around Xu Xin. With a scream, she quickly rolled off and sat upright beside Xu Xin, her head down, her face flushed red.

What’s going on!

How did I fall asleep, clinging tightly to Xu Xin... with so many people watching, it’s so embarrassing!

She sneaked a glance at the others.

Relieved yet puzzled, she noticed that no one else was looking at her but instead were all staring directly at Keke standing on Xu Xin’s other side.

”Eep?” Seeing that everyone was looking at it, Keke tilted its little head, not understanding why.

But it didn’t think much of it, because it had already caught the scent of the food.

Now, only leftovers remained on the dining table.

”Eep! Eep eep!” Keke immediately voiced its discontent, as if complaining about why they hadn’t woken it for food. It then climbed onto the dining table, picked up a chopstick with one paw, and began clumsily eating.
