Berserk God of War

136: Chapter 136: The City Lord, Killed by the Bandits Ma 136: Chapter 136: The City Lord, Killed by the Bandits Ma Upon hearing these words, Duan Chengshan’s pupils shrank sharply, and it took him a good while to reply, “Impossible!”

Duan Chengshan absolutely didn’t believe it; within the territory of Yunzhou, who could possibly stop the Lord of Yunzhou?

However, Duan Chengshan was unaware that a little Demon Rat had swiftly darted out among thirty thousand Yunye soldiers and disappeared into the streets of Yunye City.

Shortly after, nearly a thousand Jin Sect experts, who had made a narrow escape from Yanyun City, received an order.

“Disguise yourselves as mighty warriors from Xia Country and attack the Lord of Yunzhou!”

Within the small square just inside the gates of Yunye City, all was deathly quiet.

At that moment, Su Zhenglong, dragging his injured body, approached Sikong Jing and asked, “Ajing, is it true that the Lord of Yunzhou really won’t make it to Yunye City?”

“Father-in-law, please rest assured, he absolutely won’t make it,” Sikong Jing replied.

Even though Sikong Jing said so, Su Zhenglong’s eyes were still full of worry.

On what ground could Ajing be so certain?

Seeing his father-in-law’s anxious look, Sikong Jing could only offer more reassurance, “Even if the Lord of Yunzhou does arrive, it won’t be a problem.

Duan Chengshan is still alive.

If he doesn’t want to die, he will only be able to say whatever I want him to say when the time comes.”

At these words, Duan Chengshan became furious, unable to refrain from retorting, “Even if I die, I will never help you hide the truth.”

Suddenly, Su Zhenglong understood what Sikong Jing meant.

If the Lord of Yunzhou were to truly arrive at Yunye City, they would force Duan Chengshan to keep the entire situation under wraps, while Sikong Jing could continue to feign sickness and Su Yuexi could keep up her disguise as well.

Though Duan Chengshan was talking tough now, there were plenty of ways to make him obediently comply.

Still, such a course would be extremely risky; should the Lord of Yunzhou notice something amiss, they would be in big trouble.

It would be best if he simply didn’t come.

Time passed silently, one hour went by, then two hours, three hours…Suddenly, the connecting soldier rushed over again, “City Lord, the Lord of Yunzhou can no longer come.”

Buzz!

Duan Chengshan was struck dumb, staring in disbelief at the connecting soldier, “Why?”

“The Lord of Yunzhou encountered nearly a thousand terrifying warriors from Xia Country on his way.

His troops were almost completely massacred.

He had no choice but to hastily retreat back to Yunzhou City,” the connecting soldier swiftly reported.

Thump…

After the connecting soldier left, Duan Chengshan heavily collapsed onto the ground, his face deathly pale.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps drawing near; it was Sikong Jing, gun in hand.

Duan Chengshan shivered violently and pleaded, “Brother Sikong, please don’t kill me.

I will comply with you obediently, and can help you hide everything, truly!”

As he spoke, his bowed head was filled with a chilling gleam.

Once this crisis was over, he planned to contact his son who was still in Yunzhou City and have him report to the Lord of Yunzhou.

No matter what, he could not allow Sikong Jing to get away scot-free.

But his pleading voice rose again, “I’d still be a better choice to sit in the City Lord’s seat than a new City Lord arriving, don’t you think?”

Spurt…

In the next instant, Sikong Jing’s gun pierced through his throat, and Duan Chengshan died on the spot.

“If Yunzhou were not in chaos, you would indeed have a reason to live, but that’s no longer necessary,” Sikong Jing said, withdrawing his gun, and then shouted to everyone, “City Lord Duan Chengshan and his guard officers died in an attack by the Bandits Ma.”

…

At the Su Residence, mother-in-law Mei Xiaofang had prepared a table full of food and drinks, a welcome feast for Sikong Jing and his daughter Su Yuexi.

“Ajing, what did you go through these past twenty-odd days?

An army of six hundred thousand was entirely annihilated; how did you manage to escape?”

Su Zhenglong’s expression at this time showed both joy and worry, and he really wanted to know the situation of the battle on the borders of Yunzhou.

What he wanted to know even more was how Sikong Jing had survived under the pressure of a massive army and how he had subdued thirty thousand soldiers of Yunye.

The scenes of his return to slaughter the Bandits Ma and the killing of Duan Chengshan and the like still shocked him greatly.

At this moment, Su Yuexi poured a cup of wine for Sikong Jing, her Flowing Cloud Flying Squirrel Scarf already pulled down from her face, her eyes filled with excitement, even after half a day, her heart was still pounding with residual fear.

Before, she really thought Brother Jing had died in battle.

Sikong Jing smiled and took a sip of wine, explaining, “The report of six hundred thousand soldiers dead in battle was fabricated by that Commander, Fan Zhong.”

He had learned that Fan Zhong had not died outside Yanyun City, but had escaped back to Yunzhou City, and out of fear of being punished by the person who issued the Great Shang Dynasty Order, he had completely concealed the event of breaking Yanyun City.

He only mentioned that the six hundred thousand troops had all died outside Yanyun City and never even mentioned his own name.

“The situation at that time went like this…”

Sikong Jing did not hide any details, and he recounted how he had slain Chou Ye, subdued the thirty thousand soldiers, and broke Yanyun City, using Princess Die Lian as a hostage, among other things, all in one breath.

When he finished, the entire room fell silent, with Su Yuexi’s eyes shining continuously with unabashed admiration.

However, Su Zhenglong and Mei Xiaofang’s mouths hung open, their faces worn with disbelief.

At that point, Su Yuexi spoke up, “How could that person from the Great Shang Dynasty who issued the order do such a thing?

To deliberately give up on the Jin Sect’s Sui Yu brothers and abandon you, even though you were close to winning?”

A chill flashed through Sikong Jing’s eyes as he replied softly, “Some people are just that malicious.”

“Thank goodness Brother Jing is so powerful, otherwise it would have been too dangerous,” Su Yuexi said, gently patting her chest, still feeling the peril.

Opposite, Su Zhenglong and Mei Xiaofang exchanged glances, the corners of their mouths twitching repeatedly.

Then Su Zhenglong coughed twice and asked, “Ajing, how did you know the Lord of Yunzhou couldn’t come?

Did you encounter terrifying powerhouses from Xia Country on the way back?

Will they come to attack the city?”

The Lord of Yunzhou had been forced to retreat by the powerhouses of Xia Country, but with the distance being so short, Su Zhenglong was quite worried.

Sikong Jing couldn’t help but laugh, “Father-in-law, rest assured, the Lord of Yunzhou was driven back by people I disguised as Xia Country powerhouses.

For now, my recovery in Martial Arts and Yue Xi’s restored appearance must not be made known to the Lord of Yunzhou.”

With the corners of his mouth twitching once more, Su Zhenglong found himself at a loss for words.

After the meal and wine, Su Yuexi took Sikong Jing out of the hall, leaving only the Su Zhenglong couple.

Mei Xiaofang curled her lips and said, “Master, Ajing really knows how to talk big.

Why didn’t you let me expose him?”

Sighing, Su Zhenglong replied, “It’s rare for him to come back in high spirits, don’t spoil the mood.”

Everything Sikong Jing had just said was very hard for Mei Xiaofang to believe.

Leading a hundred thousand soldiers alone to break Yanyun City, kidnapping the Princess of Xia Country, and opposing millions of Xia Country armies…

Only someone as innocent as Su Yuexi could believe such tales.

Su Zhenglong then said solemnly, “However, not everything is false.

These deeds were probably done by the Sui Yu brothers from Jin Sect, and Ajing is just claiming them for himself.”

Mei Xiaofang nodded lightly, agreeing that only a significant figure like Sui Yu could pull off such earth-shattering actions.

Of course, the subjugation of the thirty thousand Yunye Soldiers was also due to Sui Yu’s order.

“This young man, knowing that he can’t become famous, still talks up a storm,” Mei Xiaofang said helplessly, and Su Zhenglong felt that changing Sikong Jing’s habit of boasting would be a long and arduous task.

“However, there’s one thing he didn’t exaggerate about, Ajing’s progress in Martial Arts has been astonishingly fast,” Su Zhenglong found something praiseworthy about Sikong Jing, comforting both himself and his wife.
