As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 99: Chapter 98 - A Usefulness of «Inventoria» Spell

After various trouble happen, the day turned to night, and my apprentice maid training ended without any problems. My task for the day was to accompany Master Reina and Master Amagi through the morning running route, which was filled with deadly traps.

Watching them train with all their might until the afternoon, I felt like a lucky maid, having completed the route in one go. Plus, I was treated to a deluxe dinner of a large, tender roast beef as an apology from Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.

I got hit hard in the face... and it turned out not to be so bad.

With the reward of a deluxe dinner and ten gold coins in my hand, it was enough to make the bad incident that had happened fade into my lost memory.

”You look happy, Liliana.”

”Did anything good happen today?” my mother asked as she enjoyed her tender slice of roast beef.

In addition to me receiving compensation in the form of a deluxe dinner, my mother also received a generous gift, as a mother who shares her daughter’s suffering. If my mother had been more courageous, she would have sued Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld for thousands of silver coins for my treatment.

But because she didn’t dare to challenge the nobles, she chose to remain silent and assume that Doctor Julia had taken care of my injuries. It sounded cruel, but it was the right course of action for commoners like us. Living as a maid in the Duke’s residence was already a remarkable achievement for a commoner.

A salary of hundreds of silver coins a year was enough to save for retirement. This comfortable life wouldn’t have been possible if my mother hadn’t seized the opportunity before her. By escaping from a monsters stampede and meeting Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld—I suppose it was a lucky twist of fate for my mother.

I finished my dinner quickly and answered her question.

”Yes, there is some good news that I received today,” I replied while showing the ten gold coins that were my daily wages for accompanying Master Amagi and Master Reina to training.

”Today’s pay was very high because Master Reina and Master Amagi trained until late afternoon. Even though they haven’t completed the challenging running route prepared by Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.”

I placed ten gold coins on the small table we often used as a makeshift dining table. My mother couldn’t take her eyes off the ten gold coins I’d received today.

”T-That’s quite a lot. Our Duchess’s punch must have hurt to have to pay that much compensation?” my mother said as she set down her wooden bowl of roast beef.

”It doesn’t hurt that much. It makes me strong enough to withstand even harder blows. Compared to the soft intensive training, I prefer this kind of hard intensive training,” I replied, shaking my head.

”Oh! I also got a bonus of gold coins from Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg after signing an exclusive contract regarding my handwritten magic book. If I add up the gold coins I currently have... then...” I stood up and approached the dresser that I was using as a piggy bank in one of its drawers.

I caught a glimpse of the holy magic book’s eyes, wanting to say something to me. But there was little I could do, as my mother was still awake. The sunflowers, glowing in the night, also waved their stems as if greeting me.

I gave a small nod to the living holy magic book and the sunflower plant to restrain myself from causing trouble while my mother was still eating dinner.

The small drawer in my dresser opened to reveal another gold coin. My two days’ wages had apparently made me rich enough for hedonism.

”Added to the gold coins I got a long ago and earlier... Uh, wow, it’s over fifty gold coins in total,” I continued as I took out a cloth pouch containing Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s additional gold coins from my maid skirt pocket.

Kaaccrinnggg...

Kaaccrringg...

”Pfffftttt!! Cough!! Cough!!” my mother choked when she heard my words; she immediately drank the glass of water beside her.

I returned while carrying a heavy cloth pouch of gold coins and my saving gold coin. Carrying this many gold coins will made my maid’s skirt feel heavy to move. And I was willing to do such a troublesome thing just to surprise my mother during this warm dinner atmosphere.

”It’s a bit hard to imagine that my daughter is much richer than me...”

”I’m her mother, much older, and not an apprentice maid! But... why my daughter more rich than I am?!!” said my mother, looking both happy and sad at the same time.

I opened the cloth pouch of gold coins and poured the contents onto the small table. With a quick count, the gold coins on the table totaled fifty-seven. As someone who dislikes odd numbers, this annoyed me.

”I never thought that my daughter had such a talent that she earned more than all the maids here.”

”You should be more careful about keeping those gold coins, Liliana.”

”How about buying a safe deposit box that only Liliana can open?”

”It’s expensive, but it’s worth it for the gold coins that are valuable as savings,” my mother continued as she continued eating her dinner.

I shook my head.

”There’s no need to buy something so troublesome. Using this is much easier...” I closed my eyes and cast a magic spell that summoned my magic storage box.

It’s a common spell often used by mages to store their belongings. It works similarly to a video game inventory, but requires a chant that mentions the owner’s full name to access it.

”In the name of Liliana Edelrose...”

”I order you to come and answer my call...”

However, the world of this novel is slightly different from the inventory in video games. Instead of casting magic by forming a circle and then placing an item inside, inventory magic in this novel’s world is governed by the caster’s mana capacity.

In other words, I have to call upon my mana capacity space to store an item in it. The bigger mana capacity, then the bigger items can be stored. In my case, maybe it’s can be called as a warehouse.

”Inventoria...” a magic chant that was so short and easy to understand its meaning was uttered.

Shhrrriinnnggg...

Shhrrriinngg...

Right before my eyes, a small magic circle opened. Without requiring much mana, it was enough to throw my gold coins into it. With swift hands, I transferred all my gold coins into the magic circle.

”I’m speechless after seeing your incredible magic talent, Liliana.”

”So much like your grandmother, she would have been delighted to see her granddaughter possessing her magic talent... if only she had survived the monster invasion.”

The moment I moved my gold coins into the magic circle, my mother shattered the peaceful atmosphere in this bedroom with a sad story.

My hand took a gold coin and threw it on my mother’s forehead.

Cttaasshh!!

”A-Awww!! What are you doing, Liliana?”

”Don’t play with precious gold coins!” my mother grumbled as she rubbed her red forehead after being hit by my gold coin.

I chuckled after seeing my mother’s overly serious grumbling.

”I knew Grandma would be proud of me. Don’t say the obvious, Mom!”

”Oh, by the way, use those gold coins to buy some ointment that can remove the scars on your back.”

”I don’t want to see it again... and make sure you don’t buy any more of those cheap, smelly ointments!” I said in a higher tone, commanding my mother.

My mother was still busy stroking her red forehead; she picked up the gold coin that fell into her lap with tears in her eyes.

”How much do you hate that cheap ointment, Liliana?” my mother said, holding back her sobs and still rubbing her forehead.

”Pretty sure a lot hatred, I hate that stinky smell. We’re rich now! Don’t be shy about buying expensive things, and don’t worry about the price! It’s better to prioritize our comfort together than to aim for a low price!” I replied, looking at my mother with a serious look in my eyes.

”T-That’s the most effective cheap topical medication on the market...”

”Ah! Forget that, I should have talked to Doctor Julia about this instead of giving the gold coins to my mother.”

I planned to take the gold coins I gave to my mother after storing all my gold coins in my magic inventory.

Swiiippp...

Swiiippp...

As soon as I reached out my hand to take it, my mother’s hand moved quickly to avoid it.

At first I thought it was just a coincidence, but at the second movement of my hand that wanted to grab the gold coin from my mother’s hand, she immediately pleaded with eyes that were almost crying.

”T-This time... Trust your mother!”

”I-I’m going to buy a expensive ointment that will effectively heal scars and won’t smell like oily raw fish!” my mother exclaimed, dodging my hand that was trying to grab my gold coin.

I gave up on taking it back.

”C-Can I have the full remaining change to buy something?” my mother asked with pleading eyes.

Oh, so that’s why she wanted to shop alone.

I stared at her with a scornful look in my eyes, trying not to believe what I was hearing.

”L-Liliana...”

”Why are you looking at me with such disbelief in your eyes?”

”I’m going to buy a much better ointment than before...”

”I PROMISE THAT!!”

I felt like I was watching a con artist trying to trick her victim with word games.

It’s not that I don’t trust my own mother in this novel’s world, but she already done the same thing, so many times that it’s hard to trust her.

”If I see something different than your promise... you know what will happen, right, Mom?” I said flatly, without any threat behind it.

Nod...

My mother nodded her head quickly; she immediately put the gold coin into her pocket.

”I-I know, Liliana.”

”Y-You can accompany me to go shopping...

”You’ve already gotten permission from our Duchess, right?”

Then...

In the middle of this unfinished dinner...

I discussed something important with my mother...
