As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 68: Chapter 67 - A Maid Job To Do

I woke up in the late afternoon before sunset.

Master Amagi was still sound asleep on top of me, and the orange sunlight filtered through the library windows. A dark shadow fell over my face, coming from a mature woman sitting on the reading couch not far from me.

Her tall frame and graceful posture were evident as she read a magic book to pass the time.

The sound of Master Amagi’s breath, who was sound asleep on top of my body, sounded so soft, like she have a sweet dream.

I moved my stiff body slowly, trying not to wake Master Amagi. Her sweet, sleeping face displayed her natural beauty as a noblewoman without any worries.

”You can sleep a little longer for tomorrow’s training,” said the mature woman while looking at me.

Her pastel purple eyes scanned me, from the tips of my hair to the parts that were embarrassing to see.

”I’ve had a lot of naps today, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg,” I replied as I changed my sleeping position from under Master Amagi’s body to beside her.

My sweaty body felt sticky after take a nap. I wanted to take a shower immediately, but that would be rude to Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg, who had already troubled herself waiting for her daughter to wake up from her nap.

”Naps are part of a mage’s training to clear the mind. With a clear mind after a nap, mages can understand complex magic books and find the answers they seek.”

”Explain it to me, Liliana...”

”Why would a mage never owe mana to a figure they don’t trust?”

My sleepy face, after waking up, was now facing a tricky question from Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg. The nap I’d considered part of the maid apprentice’s job now had to be compensated for the time I’d wasted answering that tricky question.

It’s not too complicated, but it will sound complicated to little girls who are not yet able to think logically and carefully.

I turned my head to the side and put on Liliana’s confused mask. I let my hair fall to the side and pretended to think hard before answering.

”Where do mage owe it?”

”H-Huh, why??”

”W-What was it like?” I asked innocently and rubbed my eyelids, revealing that I was still sleepy.

I could exploit the innocence of a young girl who had just woken up. With this attitude, any wrong answer I uttered wouldn’t be a problem for the best witch in the Kingdom of Belfast.

Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg let out a small sigh; she tried to find a reasonable answer before snapping her fingers.

Snap!!

From the tip of her finger, a ball of magic made of blue mana that emitted light flew towards me.

”Like lending mana...”

”If you give it with a promise to return your mana... that means you owe me mana, Liliana.”

Instead of giving a reasonable answer to the little girl, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg actually practiced giving me mana as a debt.

The blob of mana formed a ball of mana, surrounding me before stopping at my nose.

Pllooppp...

The mana ball burst like a soap bubble, allowing her mana to seep into my body and dispelling the stiff sensation in my body that had just woken up from a nap.

”But I didn’t ask for it, though...”

”Why does it fall under... owe a mana?”

”Not giving mana to use?” I played with my words to Liliana’s confused tone. I tilted my head even lower and closed my eyes as if I didn’t understand Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s words.

I’m already an expert at this.

Possessing a little girl’s body and pretending not to know, it was really easy to do, especially with this blunt counter-question.

”That’s what is called owing mana, Liliana.”

”Mana for mages... is something precious for casting spells. Without enough mana, mages will not be able to cast their magic spells.”

”So, what’s to stop mages from owing mana to other mages they don’t trust?” Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg continued with the same core question.

I couldn’t tell whether she was curious about my answer or testing me with that ambiguous question.

After making sure that Master Amagi’s body was sleeping comfortably beside me, I changed my position to sit quietly.

”If you ask me why... I wouldn’t trust anyone to borrow my hair clips either.”

”Lending something to someone you don’t know is something you can only do if you won’t be seeing them again. It’s like giving a single bronze coin to a beggar in the market, and the amount isn’t really a problem for me.”

”But as for owing mana ... I prefer to give mana to people I know rather than making it like a loan into mana debt,” I replied while playing with the innocent logic of a naive little girl.

A single paragraph in a magic book that outlined the unwritten rules for every mage. It was a complex vocabulary that Master Amagi didn’t understand.

”How is it so important for a mage to cast spells, yet you don’t consider it important?” Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg asked further.

”That’s important for mages. If they are in a situation that burdens their condition as magess. For an apprentice maid like me... it’s better to give my mana to Master Amagi and Master Reina so they can fight even harder.”

”That’s not the answer I wanted, but I understand the determination and loyalty you have shown to my daughter. Thank you...”

I deliberately gave an undesirable answer because it was related to my life guidelines in the past, which were reluctant to give credit or be indebted to others.

Being giving debt will make it difficult for me to collect it, and being in debt will force others to help me out of pity.

At least, I die in old age without leaving debts to my children.

”It’s only natural for a maid to wish the best for her Master, right?”

”Including seeing the results of the training of an undefeated swordsmanship tournament champion and the greatest witch in the Kingdom of Belfast. I look forward to Master Reina and Master Amagi shining brighter than the other nobles at the Royal Belfast Academy!” I said with burning enthusiasm.

That will happen in a few years. Until then, they’ll both be training under strict supervision and intense training. I’ll be included, too, which makes me both annoyed and happy.

Annoyed by the training being too rigorous and delighted by the immediate payment upon completion, I could still feel the four gold coins rubbing against my pocket. It made me impatient to buy something at the market.

”They will definitely shine brightly at the Royal Belfast Academy,” answered Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg confidently.

I just smiled when I heard that.

The training from Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld and Marchioness Shinano VII Lichtberg was indeed rigorous. I felt it from day one.

”I know...” I replied with a small nod.

Sluuush...

While I was talking to the Marchioness, I felt a small movement from Master Amagi’s hand as she was searching for something.

”Mmnh~ Liliana...” Master Amagi murmured in her sleep, her hand moving to find something beside me until it found my right hand.

”Nngg!! Liliana’s hands are so soft...” she continued to mumble after finding what she was looking for and hugging her tightly in her sleep.

I sat with my right hand cradled by Master Amagi’s cheek.

”It seems Amagi likes you. Would you like to try working as an apprentice maid at my residence, Liliana?”

The sudden question came from Marchioness Shinano VII Lichtberg. She closed the magic book she was reading and smiled at me. Her elegant and dignified presence made me straighten my back and sit up straighter.

”I—”

”I have already spoken to Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld about this, and she has given her permission. She is happy to lend me the maid who is still in her possession.”

Before I could answer, the Marchioness cut me off and erased any possible refusal I could have given her.

What a cunning and clever way to do it.

Various questions came to my mind, like... why did Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld allow me to go to another noble’s residence?

”Because it will make you develop into a maid who understands Amagi’s personality more closely,” she said like reading my mind.

”It could be said that you will have become a maid who will serve two noble ladies. It is quite rare for a maid to serve two Masters, right?”

”The Duchess and the Marchioness trust you, Liliana...”

”Take this chance, okay?”

I can’t refuse it anymore, huh?

It’s the same as a contract maid, who working in two different places with different salaries.

In other words, I would be getting two separate salaries and working different hours.

It sounds quite interesting to do, but I know it will be a tedious job to do.

”Oh! That was supposed to be a confidential discussion for you.”

”Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld is still struggling to persuade Reina to agree to Liliana’s work-hour sharing proposal, Teehe~”

Ah, never mind...

There is no hope for me to fight all this.

My position in the world of this novel is only a maid. There are no cheat privileges like people reincarnating or transmigrating into their own novels.

Not get extraordinary physical strength or magic...

Even living comfortably in this novel’s world is difficult...

That was already my fate, huh?

”So... that’s why the Head Maid gave the suggestion to accompany Master Amagi, who was reading magic books in the library.”

Suddenly I remembered the Head Maid’s suggestion.

It turned out that it wasn’t the anger of a mother trying to teach her daughter who had failed in her sword training. It was the anger of a mother trying to persuade her daughter to agree with her decision.

Looks like, my peaceful life has been controlled by Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.
