As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 57: Chapter 56 - Duke Enjoying Free Time

In the middle of his little journey to Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s private bedroom located in the deepest part of the Mansion, Sebastian looked at the bowl of fries that he had just gotten from the kitchen.

The amount is still too much; it is enough as an evening snack.

”A cooked fries?”

”Those hard potatoes turn into fries that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside?”

”What kind of cooking experience is this?”

On his way to the Duke’s private chambers, Sebastian sampled some fries with his aged hands. It was a loyal butler’s first line of defense to ensure every meal he served to Duke was free from poison.

At that moment, Sebastian discovered a new cooking method he had never considered. He never cooked hard fries, with his gentle crunch in his aging hands. He chewing with light force and swallowed without fear of poisoning. The potatoes he had always known were a double-edged sword, possessing unexpected toxic surprises when cooked carelessly. It was not uncommon for him to receive reports of knights on the front lines being poisoned after consuming potatoes.

Crruncchh...

Crruunncchh...

Amidst his anxiety, his hands continued to move, taking samples of the warm fries, their salty flavor exploding in his mouth. There was still so much that Sebastian doubted his own memory of how many he had taken to get that many left.

”Oh, this safe... and good?”

”This could be an alternative food to boost the morale of knights on the front lines or a backup food with its unique shape. The unique salty taste... it would be popular among knights from remote villages.”

”The little girl who cooked these fries, I’ll ask her for the recipe when I get a chance.”

Tap...

Tap...

The dark corridors of the Duke’s Mansion, lit by dim magic lanterns, accompanied Sebastian until he arrived at the door of the Duke’s private room.

His hand knocked on his bedroom door three times and waited for a reply from inside.

”Come in, Sebastian...” said the Duke, who already knew the person in front of his private bedroom door was Sebastian.

Sebastian straightened his posture and acted like a professional butler, even though he was wearing simple, informal attire in the middle of the night. His butler shift had long since ended, but he still had the energy to accompany Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld to work overtime without additional pay.

That was just a little selfishness of his; the rest was just the loyalty he gave to a Duke.

The door to the room opened slowly; the bright light coming from the magic lantern on the desk revealed the Duke’s face as he was seriously reading something.

”I brought a bottle of wine to accompany you while you work, Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld.”

”I also brought snacks recommended by the Duchess.”

”A snack cooked by a little maid... who somehow sat on the Duchess’s lap. I think the Duchess has shown her favorite side to a maid. I hope it doesn’t become a topic of conversation among the jealous maids.”

Sebastian’s report of the little maid sitting on Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s lap caught the Duke’s attention, and he smiled pleasantly in the lantern light. His eyes fell on Sebastian, who had arrived carrying a bottle of wine and a wooden bowl filled with salty fried potatoes.

”My wife doesn’t show her favorites, Sebastian.”

”She’s just teasing her own daughter like a naughty mother.”

”The little maid you’re referring to has shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes that look calm despite all the troublesome things in front of her, right?” asked the Duke as he picked up an empty wine glass.

On his tidy desk lay the remains of an empty wine bottle. The wine glass he held still had a drop of wine in it, waiting for a new bottle to be refilled.

”Duke, do you know her?” Sebastian asked as he opened the seal on the wine bottle and poured the contents into the wine glass held by the Duke.

”I met her recently. A charming little girl who tried to tempt Reina to try harder than usual. The innocent Reina even had to fight an honorable duel with her own mother to get the right to own the girl. It’s funny, isn’t it?”

Pyyuurr...

Pyyuurr...

Sebastian poured the bottle of wine into the wine glass perfectly; the red color that shone in the midnight darkness made the Duke smile.

”My rude and inelegant daughter had to try to be a charming noble lady in front of the girl who would become her Exclusive Maid. I wanted to laugh at that little idea, but it really had happened.”

”Can you imagine Reina acting polite and graceful in front of everyone, just because she wanted to have a little girl who caught her attention as her exclusive maid?”

”You didn’t expect that, did you?” the Duke continued to ask as he took a piece of fries from the wooden bowl in front of him.

Sebastian remained silent and poured the bottle of wine again to himself, careful not to spill it.

”That could be a motivation for Young Miss Reina to study hard.”

”Exactly. My beloved wife also said the same thing.”

”Then it can be done, Duke. Just entrust the decision to the Duchess who has found a way to control Young Miss Reina’s attitude and behavior. My heart aches when I see her being punished... in such an unseemly manner.”

”Believe me, Sebastian. I also can’t bear to punish Reina in such a way. My wife said that it was a common punishment in her noble family. After I thought about it calmly, it wasn’t a common punishment.”

”With all due respect, Duke. Such extreme punishment is only given to strong women as a deterrent. Our esteemed Duchess is at a level where ordinary punishment would not have a deterrent effect. So such punishment... was created naturally.”

The Duke just smiled wryly when he heard Sebastian’s answer.

”My wife is unique in some ways. That’s what made me fall in love with her. Speaking of my wife... what did she just do to make her recommend these fries?” the Duke asked as he took a piece of warm fries from a wooden bowl.

He took the fries without hesitation and devoured them, savoring each warm, crispy bite and the softness of the inside. The burst of salty flavors made Duke drink a glass of wine, creating a new taste sensation that left him smiling with satisfaction.

”According to what the Duchess said, she only accompanied Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg and Young Miss Amagi, who were starving in the middle of the night. Some of the night maids on duty were asked to cook something in the middle of the night, and for some reason... it ended up with a little maid cooking some fries.”

”I saw another dish that was empty. I didn’t see it clearly, but I’m pretty sure it was also potatoes.”

”Should I investigate that, Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld?” Sebastian asked as he bowed lightly beside the Duke.

”There’s no need; their relationship doesn’t endanger us. In fact, there’s someone else who feels pressured,” the Duke replied, handing over a letter that had recently arrived.

Sebastian’s eyes quickly scanned the letter. His brow furrowed as he read it, and he let out a heavy sigh. His thoughts were preoccupied for a moment, but he was interrupted by a tired smile.

”The Duchess’s closeness to the Marchioness made the Royal Family suspicious?”

”Yes, they suspect Reina and Young Miss Amagi will steal the attention of all the nobles at the royal tea party. My wife, who will be teaching swordsmanship and Marchioness Shinano VII Lichtberg will be teaching magic. That wide-open stage will certainly be a place for Reina and Young Miss Amagi to shine, right?”

”Shining so brightly that it eclipses the greatness of the Crown Princess of the Kingdom. That is what the Royal family and Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld, is worried about.”

”Yeah... Our King just hates to be outdone in his show-off, unlike his Queen, who always feels bored trying to live up to his expectations. I felt sorry for him after my wife advised the Queen to hit the King on the head if she felt he was overstepping his bounds when showing off.”

Sebastian couldn’t comment much on that. He hung on to the Duke’s every word and imagined the terrible events that would unfold at the Royal Family’s tea party. Besides Young Miss Reina and Young Miss Amagi being inconvenienced, it would also drag in the Crown Princess, who would be forced to show off. The swordsmanship and magic practiced by the Royal Family were of a high quality, a far cry from the swordsmanship practiced by Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld and the magic practiced by Marchioness Shinano VII Lichtberg.

These two different things will be a nightmare when a King who wants to show off wants to prove who is the best.

”The desire of parents who want their beloved daughter to be superior to other daughters,” said Sebastian to comment on the attitude of the King of the Kingdom of Belfast, who was not very wise in his eyes.

”I’m not worried, win or lose... we have nothing to lose.”

”That’s true. If Young Miss Reina wins, it will only add to the good name of the Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld family. Even if we lose... we won’t lose anything because we consider the Royal Family’s swordsmanship to be far stronger than the swordsmanship taught by Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.”

”Yes, I don’t care about all that either. Because it feeds the ego of a childish King... I’m tired of all that. The most important thing of all is to prepare well for attending the Royal family’s tea party, Sebastian.”

”I’ve already made the plans, Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld.”

”Good, and also... starting tomorrow, please make some free time in my morning schedule to watch Reina and Liliana’s training.”

”Of course, Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld.”

Sebastian was surprised by the Duke’s sudden request. But he didn’t think much of it. As long as it was an order from someone he trusted, he would immediately obey and carry out their orders wholeheartedly.
