As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 73: Chapter 72 - Magic Runes

The blue eyelids blinked and flew in front of me.

I wasn’t surprised anymore. A talking magic books were already common things in my mind. There was no need to shout out loud and greet her with such friendliness.

”Good evening, too. May I know what kind of magic book, you are?” I asked without further ado.

It was getting late. It would soon be dinnertime, and the chaos that would ensue when the sunflowers next to my bedroom window lit up like a garden lights.

”Are you in a hurry?” she replied as she landed on the dressing table and opened the first page.

The book’s plain, blue cover doesn’t reveal the title. It’s just a plain, uninteresting magic book, but it does pique curiosity about its contents.

Fllaappp...

Fllaappp...

The pages of the magic book moved on their own. The writing on the paper seemed to come to life, dancing to form intricate magical words. Like other magic book, their vocabulary was too complex for everyone to read.

The common people in the world of this novel are not taught to read and write using complicated language, but the magic books use language like drunk people without any meaning.

Can’t a magic book be written in simple language?

Well, that’s none of my business...

Just a small hope that is hard to fulfilling my ego.

In the world of irregular magic spell and limited free will, I can only complain and survive for tomorrow.

”No. Just curious about a unique magic book like yours.”

”I’ve met two unique magic books like yours. One is a magic book with forbidden spells in it, and the other is a magic book that contains plant magic incantations,” I replied while glancing at a group of sunflowers that were shining brighter in the darkness of the night.

As night approached, their light grew brighter. Luckily, their light was directed toward the moon. If that bright light were directed toward my room, it would have dazzled my eyes, which were accustomed to moonlight and magic lanterns.

”Are there any other magic books like that?”

”Where are they?!!”

”I want to meet other magic books and talk like humans.”

In a soft tone, the magic book in front of me sounded like a mature woman who enjoyed socializing with other women.

”It’s such a shame... because you share the same body with them,” I replied while stroking the sheet of paper that was open in front of me.

The smooth, felt so expensive. Its plain, elegant exterior exuded the elegance of nobility.

On its first page, a magic spell similar to Fireball was perfectly written.

What distinguishes Fireball from other fireball magic is the gentle demeanor used when casting it. Instructions for using Fireball include sitting with a straight back, covering your face with a hand fan, and casting the spell without moving your lips. It’s written in this magic book.

Basically, it is a magic book that contains the noble etiquette in casting magic spells.

This should be a book for Master Reina and Master Amagi to study, not for a mere apprentice maid like me.

”S-Sharing the same body?” the magic book asked in a questioning tone.

Those magic books shared the same expression after hearing that, huh?

Whoever created this magic book. He or she must have a wicked sense of humor to make four magic books into one magic book. Sounds like buying one magic book with a bonus of three magic books.

”It’s nothing. There’s no need to worry about such trivial matters. Anyway... can you tell me about yourself?” I asked, trying to end the pointless conversation.

There’s nothing to worry about with the magic book and its four personalities.

The one I need to worry about is me.

Why I need to read every magic book to help Master Amagi and Master Reina during their intensive training?

Just to help them?

Uh, that one gold coin as payment...

Somehow, it feels heavy with such a big responsibility...

”T-Telling me about myself?” she replied in a tone that sounded stressed about something.

”H-Honestly, I don’t understand myself beyond being a noble heritage magic book. All the magic within me comes from a unique mage, doesn’t it?” she said, her words sounding suspicious.

Fllaaappp...

Fllaappp...

My hand turned to the second page and saw different handwriting. The letters in the magic book moved to form a new sentence. It was much more intricate than before, with glittering gold ink.

”Uh, yeah, I can understand that...”

”All the mages who wrote on your sheets of paper... they’re all unique, aren’t they?” I said after understanding the uniqueness of the mages who left their magical theories in this magic book.

It would be more appropriate to call it a shared magic book or a cross-generational magic book encyclopedia.

Their language and magic theories have a different history.

Like the basic concept of different magic...

Then the different basic magic cores...

And also, a Different basic magic techniques...

If this magic book were an internet forum, I’d be cooking instant noodles with two eggs and reading the heated arguments in the comments section. Opinions vary widely among mages, especially those from outside the Kingdom of Belfast.

”You don’t feel annoyed by the writing on my sheet of paper?” the magic book asked with a small flapping sheet on my dressing table.

It seemed like there was a hidden story about her question. A magic book that has changed owners several time. From neighboring kingdoms to the Kingdom of Belfast. There are various kinds of stories that she brings, and one of them is fear of noble heritage magic.

”Why should I feel upset?” I replied with another question.

”A magic book with the writings of various mages. It’s the same as storing the magic knowledge of different kingdom, right?”

”In other words, you are a magic book with infinite value of information. Like this footnote...”

My hands touched the pages of the magic book, and I smiled softly.

[ Magic based on imagination is the basic rule of the Goddess. However, we can use magic runes to cast magic without imagination. It’s much simpler than imagining the sun shining brightly at noon to casting fireball. ]

Right in the footnotes of the Fireball spell, there is a simple magic rune engraved that can invoke the Fireball magic spell.

Tap...

Tap...

I tapped on the magic rune part and chuckled.

”The mage who wrote this said imagination is the fundamental rule of the Goddess, but we can use magic runes to cast magic quickly. If these magic runes were engraved on a piece of paper and ready to use at any time, it would be a quick magic attack, wouldn’t it?” I said as I tore the paper from the blank book Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg had given me.

Srreeettt...

Srreetttt...

The torn paper wasn’t very wide, just a small page for one Fireball magic rune that wasn’t too complicated.

”Magic runes, huh?”

”Somehow this looks like calligraphy...” I muttered in a flat tone and picked up the quill.

The Fireball rune’s carving isn’t particularly intricate. Its shape resembles the letter ”A,” but with a wavy triangular tip at the top.

Srriiinngg!!

”Hmm??”

Unlike verbal magic incantations, I didn’t feel any mana leaving my body. The runes I drew glowed like extinguished embers, ready to ignite when the wind blew.

”Magic runes are... like this?” I asked the magic book in front of me.

The magic book immediately closed its cover and used its blue eyes to look at my magic runes.

”Yes, it’s a magic rune that’s ready to activate with a surge of mana,” she replied with a wink.

”W-With surge of mana?” I, who didn’t understand this, asked her.

”Try touching those magic runes first. You’ll definitely feel a surge in mana.”

I, who was a little doubtful about it, brought my hand closer to the magic rune on the piece of paper.

Swwuuuttt...

”Kuuhh!!” A surge of mana from my body flowed into the magic rune. The rune symbol, which had been the color of extinguished embers, now glowed red like a Fireball trapped within a torn piece of paper.

”Ahh, this is... it?”

”A magic rune that is similar to a delayed magic spell. Now I understand the concept of magic runes. This will be useful for my sword and magic training.”

The discovery of these magic runes somehow brought another idea to my head. There are various kinds of magic runes written in this magic book. They all came from outside the Kingdom of Belfast. This knowledge, unknown to the Kingdom of Belfast, has been a blessing for an apprentice maid like me.

I lifted the piece of paper with the Fireball magic rune written on it; the sensation of mana being released from my body was a surge of mana for the activation of the magic.

Without chanting a word spell or imagining a fireball burning wood at night, this magic rune will invoke the Fireball magic.

Snap!!

I threw the piece of paper in the air and snapped my fingers; a spark appeared in front of me and quickly grew into a Fireball.

Swwoommpp!!

Swwoommpp!!

The growing fire burned the scraps of paper to ashes, dirtying the floor of my room, and a burning smell filled the room.

I immediately got up from my dressing table chair and opened my bedroom window.

”Magic runes are indeed interesting. The concept is different from delayed magic spells. Magic runes will draw mana first, while delayed magic spells will draw their caster’s mana after the magic activation is successful...”

”T-This could be a useful magic in the future...”

Swooosshhh...

Swwooosshhh...

The cool night air blew against my face. As night crept closer, I grew hungrier and more exhausted. My stomach, which had previously been able to survive without dinner, now craved a heavy meal to fill its empty stomach.

I was reminded of something.

”I haven’t eaten since I woke up from my faint...” I grumbled as I rubbed my stomach.

Grrowwll...

The sound of the hungry stomach was getting louder.

”Looks like you’re hungry after studying magic runes,” said the magic book as it flew towards me.

”Yeah, I forgot to eat lunch before,” I replied while holding back my hunger.
