As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 70: Chapter 69 - That Forbidden Magic Book... Alive?

The memory of my conversation with Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg is still fresh in my mind.

The three unwritten rules for a mage are absolute rules that must be followed.

In short, they prohibit lending mana to other mages, understanding the limits of one’s own magical abilities, and not being tempted by the quickest way to learn magic through forbidden demon contracts.

A pretty reasonable rule to follow.

There’s nothing strange about it; it’s just...

”Why did I return to my bedroom with the forbidden magic book?” I muttered, annoyed at myself for being so easily fooled by Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s temptations.

She wants to see me grow rapidly as a maid who masters swordsmanship and magic?

What kind of bad joke is that?

If I were the main character in this novel, perhaps that would be easily achieved using plot armor and the power of friendship. But for me, possessing the body of a little girl and living as a commoner, there no privilege could reach that level.

Master Amagi will likely develop into a high-ranking witch quickly. She is a direct descendant of the greatest witch ever to have lived in the Kingdom of Belfast, and her magical talent was already blooming in her avid reading of magic books. Although some of the vocabulary is difficult to understand, that hasn’t diminished her curiosity about magic world.

Master Reina also possesses a talent for swordsmanship. With such an understanding mother, she will undoubtedly develop into a noblewoman with the greatest swordsmanship in the Kingdom of Belfast. Perhaps even surpassing her own mother, if she isn’t too lazy in her training.

Plooppp...

”Haaahhh...” I sighed heavily and placed the forbidden magic book next to the beginner magic book on the dressing table.

Of all the tiredness I feel today, I feel more tired of studying something I already understand with an empty head.

”Magic rule that I have written with my own two hands...”

”Why do I feel lazy to study it after knowing all the essence of magic that I wrote...”

”Ugh, this is making me even lazier...”

With laziness filling my body, I took off my maid uniform and threw it into the dirty clothes basket.

Ploommm...

The new evening feel so boring...

My mother still hadn’t returned from work, probably helping the maids in the kitchen to prepare dinner.

In the midst of this unbearable boredom, I put on casual clothes and sat down at my dressing table. Under the light of the magic lantern, which was just enough to illuminate the small room, I opened a blank sheet of paper and reached for the quill given to me by Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg.

”Writing a magic book according to my own thoughts, huh?”

”It can be a good stress reliever after work...”

Without touching that thick beginner’s magic book, I wrote based on the principles of magic in this novel’s world. There were no qualms about grammar or complicated vocabulary; my handwriting used everyday language related to the use of imagination-based magic.

If all magic books used complicated and difficult-to-understand language, then they would be failed magic books to teach someone.

I don’t want to write a failed magic book; my goal in writing this magic book is to guide people who are confused about imagining something in their minds and be able to casting magic.

Fireball magic won’t activate without imagining a hot fireball floating in the air. Before imagining the fireball, I use a more basic approach, like imagining a campfire at night. Then feel the warmth of the campfire and imagine the fireball burning from the warmth of the fire at night.

Imagining the sun in the palm of your hand is too far and hard to imagine...

Srreett...

Srreett...

My hands moved according to my thoughts. The words I used contained no metaphors or elaborate hyperbole. Using common words covering everyday activities, it was enough to write the first Chapter of my magic book.

The magic book that came from my mind...

Somehow, it felt fun when writing it...

Fllaapp...

Fllaappp...

As I focused on my handwritten magic book, I heard a faint sound coming from somewhere beside me. A faint gust of wind brushed against the back of my neck, and I turned to look at the tightly closed bedroom window.

”Hmm?” I mumbled as I calmed myself down and tried to ignore the cold air blowing on the back of my neck.

Again and again...

There is no one else than myself...

Srrusshh...

Just thinking about it makes me feel uneasy, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I feel a sense of dread at the unknown.

Fllaapp...

Fllaappp...

The strange sound came again, this time on my left side and opposite the window in my room.

I’m not being haunted, right?

Why do I hear strange sounds at night?

With doubt in my heart, I slowly turned my head and saw a shadow of an unknown figure flying beside me. The shadow looked like it was flapping its wings, but I knew... it wasn’t a bird.

Holding back the fear in my head, my hand swung to the left and slapped the figure flying beside me until it fell.

Plloooppp!!

Thuuddd!!

”Oh my! How cruel of you. Please be careful with an old book like me!”

The thud of something falling was loud, like the sound of a thick book talking.

Wait a moment...

A book that can talk?

How do I know it’s a talking book?

”Hey! Pick me up!”

”Did you hear that?”

”Don’t ignore me and pretend to be deaf!”

”Quickly pick me up!”

I guess...

My mind has started to deteriorate after undergoing intensive training from Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld...

Poor Liliana...

Not only does she have to survive with the Villainess girl as her Master, but she also has to live with a mind filled with crazyness.

Hearing a book that can speak for itself, how bad is Liliana’s sanity?

I turned to my left and saw a forbidden magic book fallen on the floor.

”Hmm?”

”Why is the forbidden magic book on the floor?”

”I put it here, right?” I muttered as I glanced at the beginner’s magic book that was still in its place.

The fine hair on the nape of my neck stood up even more after experiencing this mystical event.

”D-Don’t tell me... this is the work of a mischievous ghost?” I continued muttering as I put down my quill and prepared to leave the bedroom.

”I’m not a ghost! Don’t think I’m dead and became a ghost!” the voice came again, so loud that it caught my attention as I found the source of the sound.

Right before my eyes, the forbidden magic book was shaking like a turtle trapped in an upside-down position.

”...” I was speechless at this.

”Don’t ignore me! Quickly help me up!” shouted the forbidden magic book, which was becoming clearer before my eyes.

I couldn’t maintain my innocent expression.

A forbidden talking magic book, huh?

Somehow, this is similar to the novel next door, which tells the story of an Alchemist with his living magic book.

It’s not like that, is it?

Without thinking anything bad about the poor magic book, I quickly helped it up from its slump. My hand gripped its leather cover, which felt warm and throbbing like living human skin. Its red, eye-shaped cover glared at me.

”What are you thinking?!”

”If you become my new owner, at least read and treat me well!”

”Don’t slap an old book like me as a young girl who will be sacrificed for a devil’s contract ritual!”

The first thing I saw after helping with the forbidden magic book was anger mixed with annoyance. Those glaring red eyes and hardened veins somehow resembled Master Reina.

”I’m surprised...” I said while stroking the edge of the book.

”Should I throw this chatty forbidden magic book in the trash?”

”Oh, it will definitely come back again, right?”

”How about I tie it to a large rock and sink it at the bottom of the river?” I said with a smile and waved it away like it was an insignificant magic book.

The glaring red eyes suddenly calmed down.

The hardened, red veins simply disappeared.

”Cough! F-Forgive my rude attitude, my new owner...” the magic book said in a gentle tone.

Threats seem to work to make it behave politely and ethically.

”I’m not your new owner... I was just forced to learn forbidden magic from a great witch—”

”Monster...”

”Huh?” The sentence I almost finished was suddenly cut off.

”Monster... MY PREVIOUS OWNER WAS A MONSTER!” The forbidden magic book said in a loud voice, and it eyes suddenly filled with tears.

”M-Monster?” I said while tilting my head.

”YES! SHE’S NOT A HUMAN! SHE’S A MONSTER IN HUMAN SKIN!”

”That’s quite a cruel accusation, you know...”

”She’s so cruel! Have you ever seen a living magic book treated like a teacup saucer?”

”Eeehh?” I tried to understand that words.

”My soft skin has to withstand the heat from the teacup with hot water! Not only that, sometimes I become a doorstop to allow fresh air to enter! Do you think that woman is human?!!”

I smiled wryly when I understood it.

Oh, the esteemed Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg...

What have you done with this poor forbidden magic book?

How could I see a living magic book with some fear?

What kind of bitter experience had it gone through?

”No... no... that’s still normal,” I replied in defense of Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg.

”WHERE IS IT NORMAL?!! USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!!”

The scream echoed inside my bedroom, breaking the silence of the evening that had just fallen.

”Normally, an unread magic book would become a chair wedge.”

”YOU’RE AS CRAZY AS THAT MONSTER!!”

Aaahh... This uniquely exciting reaction.

Somehow, I understand why Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg did all that.
