Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 929: Chapter 574: Strange Rules (2)

Because Xu Jinbo left the crew and wasn’t around, the money couldn’t be distributed to them normally, so they started causing a fuss.

This is quite understandable.

Extras are in a precarious position, earning daily wages.

For an actor like Zhou Yun, delaying the final payment for two or three months isn’t a big deal and won’t affect her much, but for these extras, who might already be struggling with little savings, they rely on daily pay to get by.

A three-day delay could be the limit for some of them.

Both sides were at an impasse, and the extras didn’t resort to extreme measures; they just wouldn’t leave and stayed on set, of course, not cooperating with the crew’s arrangements.

The filming couldn’t proceed normally.

Because whenever there were signs of formal shooting starting, they’d cause a ruckus, interfering with the process.

Zhou Yun and a few other actors present were interrupted several times and were quite frustrated and irritable.

Yuk Chu said to Cui Xidong, ”Director, how can we shoot under these conditions? It’s impossible to film.”

Cui Xidong said, ”It’s indeed a bit difficult to shoot under these circumstances, but there’s nothing we can do about it now. These people are causing trouble, and we can’t chase them away or call the police. How about everyone just hangs in there and we overcome the difficulties? We can do more takes?”

Zhou Yun didn’t expect Cui Xidong to say that.

He was baffled.

What baffled him was that Cui Xidong didn’t even consider solving the problem over there but instead asked them to overcome the difficulties.

Zhou Yun felt a bit disgruntled, including towards Xu Jinbo.

It’s understandable that he had to leave for urgent matters, but with such a big mess here, he should have delegated some tasks and authorized someone to handle routine affairs before he left, right?

What’s going on now?

Zhou Yun said to Cui Xidong, ”Director, I can’t get into character in this environment; why don’t you discuss with others about how to resolve this quickly?”

Cui Xidong sighed wearily and said, ”Why don’t you take a break first.”

He actually called people over to contact other actors to shoot other minor scenes first.

Not wasting any time.

Zhou Yun was amazed.

She couldn’t hold back anymore and called Xu Jinbo herself.

Xu Jinbo answered the phone and asked, ”Xiao Yun, what’s up? I’m not with the crew right now, handling some things.”

”I know you’re not with the crew, but there’s a problem with the crew now,” Zhou Yun said. ”Some extras who follow the crew long-term can’t get paid because you’re not here to sign, and they’re causing a scene on set. Can’t someone else sign for it?”

”Hmm?”

Xu Jinbo was clearly taken aback.

”Hasn’t anyone mentioned this to you?” Zhou Yun asked in surprise.

Xu Jinbo said, ”Wait a sec, I’ll get back to you.”

He hung up the phone.

A while later, Xu Jinbo called back.

”Xiao Yun, sorry, I’m aware of the issue now, and I’ve arranged for people to pay those extras. Disrupting the crew’s filming was my oversight,” Xu Jinbo said. ”Afternoon filming won’t be affected; I’ll try to return as soon as possible.”

”Okay.”

Indeed, as Xu Jinbo said, by the afternoon, those blocking the set were gone.

After the incident in the morning, Zhou Yun completely lost trust in Cui Xidong. Canceling the morning’s shoot outright would have been more decisive than his approach. Zhou Yun suddenly regretted that when Yuehai suggested the director candidate, she shouldn’t have relied so easily on what’s on paper. It would’ve been better to find out more about Cui Xidong’s style on set, as Zhou Yun doubted other actors would tolerate it.

The director should be the one most trusted in a crew; if the actors don’t trust the director, how can they believe the director’s guidance?

But right now, Zhou Yun didn’t say anything else.

She just focused on her tasks, determined to film the show well.

She consoled herself by thinking Cui Xidong was just a tool; it’s alright, it’s alright, as long as the script is filmed as written, even without artistic flair, it’s still a good story on a narrative level.

At least Cui Xidong wouldn’t whimsically change the script, which was good.
