Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 918: Chapter 571: About the Production Crew, About the Actors (3)

The only difficulty is Yuk Chu.

Xu Jinbo was unsure whether Yuk Chu would be willing to keep working every night without wrapping up.

Generally speaking, for well-known actors like Yuk Chu, the crew would mostly schedule their filming during the daytime, unless there’s a big night scene that needs to be shot.

Many people who don’t understand this industry often think that a crew revolves entirely around the most important lead. Actually, that’s a big misconception. While the crew members do mostly focus on the main lead, that’s not necessarily the case with other actors. A more likely scenario is that the lead is surrounded by the crew, while the supporting actors stand by making sarcastic remarks. After all, if a big star is unhappy, the crew can always be replaced, but the actors cannot.

In ”Deep Sea,” Zhou Yun is undoubtedly the absolute lead, but Xu Jinbo would not treat actors like Yuk Chu and He Wenyun as newcomers to be dealt with casually; they also need to be taken seriously, cared for, and even coaxed.

Xu Jinbo approached Yuk Chu to convey this intention. He had already thought of what to say to persuade her if Yuk Chu was unwilling.

But Yuk Chu agreed directly, nodding with a smile, ”That’s even better. I also want to finish filming as soon as possible.”

Xu Jinbo hadn’t expected Yuk Chu to be so agreeable.

She didn’t put on any airs at all.

Initially, Xu Jinbo wasn’t too keen on hiring Yuk Chu. He was a producer at Yuehai, and many personal connections were within Yuehai. If it weren’t for Yuk Chu securing this spot, a chance to play a co-lead with Zhou Yun, how huge a favor would that be in his hands? When the news first spread, all the agents at Yuehai were approaching him, trying to snag this opportunity. During that time, no matter how renowned the agent, they would surely greet him with a smile and say all the right things. But Zhou Yun specifically wanted Yuk Chu, and to ensure Zhou Yun starred in the series, he had no choice.

Xu Jinbo had gone to discuss Yuk Chu’s contract with Zhou Lan and had met Yuk Chu several times, chatting at length. Upon deeper interaction, Xu Jinbo discovered that Yuk Chu was nothing like the spoiled heiress depicted by rumors—though she had indeed been embroiled in scandals related to her parents’ gambling debts, which caused quite a stir—this was not her fault, and after the issue blew up, Yuk Chu promptly cleared the debts.

Since then, Yuk Chu suddenly became more active. This activeness referred to the film and TV industry.

Previously, she was quiet, but suddenly she was attending meetings everywhere, actively and almost diligently to the point it spread among the producers: A previously news-hot actress was now urgently accepting roles to earn money.

In this circle, many people work extremely hard, unwilling to miss or reject any opportunity that comes their way. During that period, Yuk Chu seemed to be like that, at one point filming three projects simultaneously — all supporting roles, running between three sets, impressively managing it. This was essentially schedule cramming, but since the crews didn’t mind, she wasn’t asking for high fees, and she brought buzz, many producers were willing to use her. Having her name in promotions could grab a lot of attention.

However, Xu Jinbo wasn’t fond of hiring actors with negative news surrounding them.

He hoped actors’ images would be more positive, which would be beneficial for the show’s reputation.

Otherwise, an actor ruining a good show is not rare.

The reason Zhou Yun is so popular in the industry is critically because since her debut, she’s been free of scandals—though they happen, they quickly get clarified, earning public sympathy. This matters greatly. It means Zhou Yun enjoys widespread popularity among the public.

More than fearing a show’s failure after filming, what frightens producers is when an actor’s issue leads to the show never airing, being shelved, implying substantial financial loss.

But the scandal around Yuk Chu wasn’t really related to her personally. Hence, she wasn’t blacklisted and could continue normal activities. However, cautious producers like Xu Jinbo would consider more carefully whether to hire such an actor.

Xu Jinbo’s mindset was not unusual.

There were quite a few producers who thought the same way.

After resolving things with Yuk Chu, Xu Jinbo handed the matter over to coordination.
