Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 590: Chapter 445: Cliff Out of Control_2

Zhou Yun was getting better and better at acting, and she would communicate her thoughts with Kang Xin before every scene.

And whenever a scene was done, Zhou Yun no longer acted like before, never watching her own performance. Instead, she would sit with the director behind the monitor to watch the clips she had just filmed.

Mature, brilliant actors leave right after their performance and never bother to watch.

They have the confidence, and that’s their skill.

Zhou Yun wanted to step forward, and relying on just her talent and aura was not enough.

”You see, at this spot, you were too smooth. Subconsciously, you knew that He Mu would push the door open in the next second, so your body was already prepared, rushing to hide the items in the box. However, you should react only after hearing the sound. If you can’t yet control your muscle response, let me teach you a trick. When you look at the item inside the box, be cautious from the start. You can’t let He Mu find it, so as soon as you take it out, you’re a bit nervous, maintaining this state throughout so no one feels your action of hiding the thing is too smooth.”

Kang Xin was explaining the play to Zhou Yun, focusing on the very details.

These were the exact details Su Yan didn’t want to hear before.

Su Yan knew these details could help improve her performance and take her acting up a level.

But Su Yan’s thoughts were simple: it’s a TV drama, not a movie. The length isn’t comparable, neither is the screen size. Who would be that nitpicky?

If she used such a critical attitude to correct every scene, she wouldn’t need to act anymore; it would be full of flaws.

The most critical point, in Su Yan’s view, was such effort wasn’t pleasing and was meaningless – no one would care.

How many viewers these days would watch a drama multiple times?

But Zhou Yun really appreciated Kang Xin’s script analysis.

These details were the logic of acting. If emotional immersion was the charming side of acting, then character analysis was the rational allure. Zhou Yun, coming from a science background, really liked this certainty, the more nuanced, the more it revealed complex magic.

After listening to Kang Xin’s explanation, Zhou Yun felt enlightened.

She realized her own problems as well.

In the scene, she should only be startled and realize that Song Chi is pushing the door open when it happens.

Off the scene, she had already read the script, making it impossible to be 100% ”startled and panicked.”

The conflict between the known and the unknown is a problem and challenge every actor must deal with. Some actors use method acting, some rely on emotions, some on experience – the approaches vary.

But all these are built upon a refined technique, making such performances appear naturally real.

Zhou Yun couldn’t do it.

Kang Xin gave her a tip: if sudden panic couldn’t be naturally performed, then follow the character’s motivation, amplify the initial tension, and transition into subsequent panic.

It was a shortcut but also a trick in acting.

Zhou Yun found it very interesting.

...

When a week passed without the crew urging Su Yan to return for filming, Su Yan panicked completely.

So did Sister Ting.

Sister Ting called Wen Binglan to ask about the situation at the studio.

Wen Binglan reported honestly, saying, ”These days, Director Kang has been filming scenes with Zhou Yun and Song Chi.”

Sister Ting’s tone suddenly rose, asking, ”What about our Yanyan?”

Her implicit meaning was, had the crew really forgotten about Su Yan?

A female lead’s absence for five days, shouldn’t the crew have been urging her strongly to return much sooner?

Wen Binglan replied, ”Sister Ting, didn’t Su Yan say she had a concussion and needed more rest? This is an objective situation; we’re helpless too. If Su Yan’s condition is really serious, Director Kang said we could just cut some of her scenes. We definitely won’t force Su Yan back to the set without proper rest, don’t worry.”

Sister Ting’s eyes widened.

The meaning couldn’t be more clear.

”Little Wen, is this, this the director’s idea?”

”That’s what my superiors think too. No one can afford to waste time.”

Sister Ting hung up the phone, thought for three seconds, then immediately proceeded to get Su Yan discharged and brought her back to the set.

Upon arriving on set, Su Yan refused to get out of the car.

She said, ”If I get out now to apologize, I’ll lose all face. It was Sister Ting who told me that they would beg me to come back! And now it turns out I have to come crawling back on my own!”

Sister Ting also felt helpless, saying, ”Yanyan, I didn’t expect them to be this ruthless. They even dared to threaten to cut the female lead’s scenes.”

Su Yan: ”Isn’t it because Sister Ting you insisted on using this to have the crew add scenes for me?”

”Sigh, let’s not talk about this. I didn’t consider everything thoroughly either, but now’s not the time for you to be stubborn. Think about it, if you don’t get out and bow to the director, and they really do cut your scenes, Zhou Yun could end up being the lead actress.”

Sister Ting’s threat was quite effective. As soon as she heard Zhou Yun’s name, Su Yan stopped worrying about losing face, got out of the car, and went straight to Kang Xin.

She approached Kang Xin with a beaming smile and greeted, ”Director, I’m back! Sorry for making you all wait these days.”

Kang Xin was talking with the cinematographer. Seeing Su Yan, he smiled, ”You’re back? I thought your condition was quite serious. You’re back at the set already, are you sure you’re up for it?”

Su Yan: ”I can do it, director. I didn’t want to delay everyone’s time, so as soon as the doctor said I could be discharged, I rushed back.”

Kang Xin nodded: ”If so, then we will have to continue being hard on you.”

Su Yan said, ”What do you mean, director? I’m not having a hard time. You’re the one working hardest.”
