Starting As a Young Eagle, I Evolve Into an Ice Beast

17: Chapter 17 Slaughtering Mutant Creatures, Spiritual Rain DescendsBai Xuan endured the rifle bullets and charged at them.

Looking at the enraged Bai Xuan before them, even those strictly trained Soldiers were terrified, cold sweat streaming down their faces. Their attacks didn’t stop, though; they fired while retreating.

”All fear comes from a lack of firepower,” they thought, refusing to believe they couldn’t kill this beast.

This only enraged Bai Xuan further. With just his Sharp Talons, which could cut through iron like mud, he slaughtered them as easily as cutting vegetables.

By the time Bai Xuan calmed down, the Soldiers were already dead beyond a doubt.

Bai Xuan deactivated his Frenzied state, stood silent for a moment, then flapped his wings and flew away.

...

Meanwhile, at the location of the Aura Tide.

A large number of armored vehicles had surrounded the area.

Heavy machine guns, autocannons, rocket launchers, grenades, and an array of military ordnance were all unleashed in a saturation bombardment against the mutant creatures!

”Bombard them!” commanded a middle-aged man in military uniform standing in the back of an open-top off-road military vehicle.

They didn’t just want to control the Aura Tide location; they wanted to wipe out these mutant creatures to curb their growth and use them for research.

In the face of national priorities, animal protection laws had long been thrown to the winds.

Facing such saturation attacks, the mutant creatures had no way to parry. After all, they were merely flesh and blood; this was normal in the early stages of the Aura revival.

Half an hour later, the mutant creatures were wiped out, piled up like mountains, blood flowing like a river.

The stench of blood permeated for over a hundred miles, a gruesome sight.

The Soldiers got out of their vehicles and began dragging the mutant creatures, hanging them on the armored vehicles to take back for research.

At this time, Elder Lin got out of a vehicle, wearing a protective suit and mask, and under the escort of Soldiers, arrived at the Aura Tide rift.

The Aura Tide was now reduced to just a sliver; it wouldn’t be long before it was completely released, the aura entering the atmosphere to fall as rain, baptizing the mountains, reviving all things, causing bloodline mutations, and increasing levels.

”The Aura Tide has begun. Before long, more mutant creatures will appear, stronger in power, with all-around improvements. Neither bullets nor shells will be able to kill them.”

Elder Lin lay on the ground, his eyes burning with fervor, looking at the Aura Tide rift as if he were staring at a great beauty, insatiably hungry.

”Elder Lin, the Soldiers who were hunting that strange bird are all dead, and that strange bird’s whereabouts are unknown...” An officer ran to Elder Lin’s side to report the situation truthfully.

”It must not be allowed to live! Use whatever means necessary to capture or kill it! Even if it has to be blown to smithereens, it cannot be allowed to escape!”

Elder Lin saw a strong sense of crisis in that strange bird. He had a premonition that if it wasn’t killed during its weak period, it would be a devastating blow to the Dragon Kingdom in the future!

After all, the Aura had only been reviving for such a short time, yet this strange bird could already withstand machine gun bullets and even rockets; what would happen if it were allowed to continue growing?

”Yes, I have already sent people to hunt it down,” the officer replied.

Drones and helicopters were all dispatched to hunt down that strange bird!

Being able to wipe out a helicopter squad and withstand so many attacks without dying—instead fighting back—how could he not feel lingering fear?

At the same time, there was good news: martial artists had begun to appear in the Dragon Kingdom, absorbing the aura of heaven and earth, with huge improvements in both mind and body!

There was also the preliminary mastery of aura, discovering that it contained extremely vast power. Combined with weapons, it would surely produce powerful spiritual energy weapons.

By then, the human crisis would be resolved, the people of the Dragon Kingdom would be as strong as dragons, and those mutant creatures would be just like they were before mutation, posing no great threat to humanity, with social order stable and flourishing.

They all held high expectations; after all, humans were inherently stronger and smarter than animals, and with thousands of years of accumulated advantages, wouldn’t suppressing these mutant creatures be easy?

...

Meanwhile, Bai Xuan had escaped to an underground cave, panting heavily. His left leg had a comminuted fracture, and he was using aura to barely staunch the bleeding.

There were over a hundred bullet fragments inside his body, making Bai Xuan’s injuries even more severe.

Bai Xuan spat out a mouthful of blood and leaned against the corner, his eyes revealing exhaustion:

”It seems reaching this point was unavoidable.”

Their stances were different; even if Bai Xuan wanted to avoid it, it was futile.

Sigh, take it one step at a time.

Bai Xuan had struggled so hard to stay alive; he didn’t want to die just like this.

He had died accidentally in his past life, walked through the gates of hell once, been pushed out of the nest by his hatchling brothers, and nearly died; now this was happening—Bai Xuan was very annoyed.

[Do you wish to consume 100 Evolution Points to accept system healing?]

The system’s voice followed. This time, Bai Xuan’s injuries were extremely severe, so the required Evolution Points would naturally be high.

”Start the healing.” Bai Xuan closed his eyes wearily to rest for a while, though he dared not relax his vigilance. His divine sense was active at all times; if there was any danger, Bai Xuan would be able to detect it in time.

A surge of energy swept through his entire body, moving within him to extract the bullet fragments and rocket shrapnel, repairing his meridians and flesh, and causing new scales to grow on his legs.

He wondered if Huzi and Xiaohei were alright.

Two and a half hours later, Bai Xuan had mostly recovered. The rest would have to be healed by time, but given Bai Xuan’s recovery speed, it wouldn’t be long before he was fully healed.

During this time, there was no danger. Bai Xuan kept his nerves taut and dared not turn off his divine sense; he knew clearly of any movement within a hundred-meter radius.

Bai Xuan began to devour the spirit stones inside his body, intending to hide here for a while. They couldn’t possibly monitor the mountains all the time.

After all, with the arrival of the Aura Tide, other places would follow suit, and they would have to suppress those areas and acquire more aura resources.

...

Night fell, and the bright moon hung in the sky.

A torrential rain began to fall from the sky, nourishing the earth, reviving all things, and causing them to thrive.

Countless creatures were baptized by the Aura Rain, stepping into the level of mutant creatures.

As for those mutant creatures that hadn’t gone to compete, their levels shot up rapidly. Their bodies greedily absorbed the aura, but those without talent would explode and die.

Survival of the fittest; from tonight on, mutant creatures would increase at a terrifying speed, countless in number, accompanied by slaughter.

Now the slaughter had begun. After their bodies grew larger, they needed more food to replenish their energy. Their stomachs rumbled with hunger, as if they could never eat enough.

At the same time, as they devoured each other, those that survived thrived, their bodies growing larger and larger.

”It has finally arrived!” Xiaohei had now stepped into the seventh stage of the secondary tier. Bathing in the Aura Rain, its feathers were like they had been coated with waterproof paint; they didn’t get soaked, but instead, it could absorb a large amount of aura to improve itself.

Huzi also had obvious improvements. It was ten meters long, muscular, and the black markings on its body had turned dark red, as were its pupils—it was exuding dominance.

It sat on the mountaintop, overlooking the changes below, with a pile of bleached bones behind it; it seemed it had devoured quite a few mutant creatures.

Its level had reached the ninth stage of the secondary tier—a three-stage jump! Terrifying indeed.

”I wonder if Brother Bai is dead or alive.” Huzi’s eyes revealed worry.

After spending this time together, Bai Xuan wasn’t that hard to get along with; in fact, he had treated it quite well.

Xiaohei stood nearby. The overwhelming slaughter by the humans was still fresh in its memory. At first, it felt fear, but seeing Bai Xuan being hunted and covered in blood made it feel angry. Its attitude toward humans had also changed somewhat:

”Little Bai, one day, I will avenge you!”

It turned out that the disaster didn’t come from mutant creatures, but from humans!

At least, that was the case for them.

The threat of humans was the greatest, far exceeding other mutant creatures!

”Count me in.”

Huzi also had some understanding of humans, and at the same time, it was clear that humans were very wary of them.

Even wanting to stifle them in the cradle—while feeling angry, it was also... thinking about how to survive under the threat of humans.
