My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2291: Chapter 2124: Do Not Grieve

”Child, you can’t approach life with such thoughts; it will leave you unable to face life with a calm mindset.”

Zhang Zhentian gazed wistfully at the sky. What was once an endless expanse of blue sky and white clouds now seemed dull and colorless to him, his mood so bleak that he felt the world had turned gray and dark, unable to see any light, as if his end had arrived.

Xia Jing saw Zhang Zhentian standing motionless at the entrance of the civil affairs bureau. She knew her husband was still reluctant to let go, yet she had dragged him here herself. How could she justify turning back now? They had both played a role in how things had led to this point. They couldn’t blame everything on one person alone, as that would be far too selfish and irresponsible...

Xia Jing felt truly distressed, watching her husband stand there without moving, wishing time could freeze forever in this moment, so they would never step through the civil affairs bureau’s door or face the day of their divorce. She just wanted to quietly watch her beloved husband!

Despite being in love for so long, they ultimately couldn’t escape the fate laid out for them, forced into a corner, compelled to divorce.

Seeing Xia Jing also looking reluctant, Zhang Zhentian said to her, ”Why don’t we reconsider this divorce? Give me another chance, let’s go back home together, happily live together, wouldn’t that be better? Why make such a fuss?”

”Since we’ve already spoken the words, why reverse it now? As the saying goes, a good horse doesn’t go back to the grazing field. If we’ve made the decision, then we must see it through. We’ve been through so much together, it’s truly hard to forget each other, yet there are no paths left to take now. Since this is our destined conclusion, let’s let go of each other’s hands and offer another chance. Trust me, I won’t let you down.”

”What use is there in saying these things now? It’s too late, there’s no turning back. Since we’re already here, why not step through the door and get the result we both seek?”

”Xia Jing, you must know that I don’t want to divorce. I don’t want to walk through that civil affairs bureau door, don’t want to watch you leave. Every time I see you turn away, do you know how much it hurts me watching you walk away? Why can’t you understand my heart for you? After so many years of marriage, do you really not know me at all? Everything I did was for us to have a better life, to let us both have the joy of living the life we desire, but why won’t you give me a chance to explain? Many times, if only you understood me better, our conclusion would be different, but you didn’t.”

”What use is there in saying these things now? We originally had a way back, but you blocked every path back yourself. I pleaded with you not to divorce me, yet you resolutely chose to abandon me and the love we’ve shared for over a decade. Since you made such a heartless decision to abandon me then, don’t expect to call me back now. It’s truly meaningless, it makes me feel you’re unworthy of being a man, indifferent to the bond we shared. Why should I cling to the idea of you being part of my life? That only makes it more painful. Let’s not say anything more, we’re here now, let’s go in and get this done, otherwise, coming back to do this will only be more troublesome!”

Xia Jing finished speaking and turned to walk into the civil affairs bureau. Zhang Zhentian felt uncomfortable seeing Xia Jing’s determined silhouette. Xia Jing turned back, seeing Zhang Zhentian standing still, she reached out to pull him towards the entrance, but couldn’t move him.

”Why can’t you give me another chance? In your heart, am I so insignificant? Giving me another chance, why can’t you? All I want is a simple, happy family!”

”Is it because in your heart, I haven’t given you the feeling of a home over the past decade, didn’t let you experience the atmosphere a happy family should have, hence you chose to treat me this way? You say now if I go back with you, you won’t divorce me in the future, but how credible are your words? Since you could heartlessly suggest divorce this time, there can be a second and a third time. I don’t want to endure such blows repeatedly, since you hear that now, then let’s completely resolve this and spare each other from further sorrow.”

After speaking, Xia Jing directly walked into the civil affairs bureau entrance; she didn’t intend to wait for Zhang Zhentian. Feeling helpless, Zhang Zhentian slowly walked inside.

They argued for quite some time inside the civil affairs bureau before finally quieting down. Once quiet, Xia Jing signed her name on the divorce agreement. Zhang Zhentian saw Xia Jing signing the agreement without hesitation. He realized his actions truly chilled Xia Jing’s heart this time. Since Xia Jing made such a decision, he should stop imposing, forcing her to continue living with him. Maybe it was time to let Xia Jing go and fly solo.

After pondering alone, Zhang Zhentian signed his name on the divorce agreement. The staff issued the divorce certificate to Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing. Looking at the certificate in her hand, Xia Jing cheerily said to Zhang Zhentian, ”Congratulations on finally getting rid of me! Now you can go live a happy life with dad and our son, while I’ve come to soar alone without being a burden or hindrance!”

”You too, you can fly solo without worrying I’ll expose your lies!”

”We’ve completed all the necessary procedures, now you’re free; let’s each return home, never to meet or contact each other again, going separate ways from here on...”

Finished speaking, Xia Jing turned and left. As she turned, a large teardrop rolled down her cheek. Though it was scorching hot, the wind chillingly brushed against her face, making her feel the cold of winter.

Zhang Zhentian knew Xia Jing was crying, but said nothing, as speaking only deepened the sorrow. Even though his heart ached, he refrained from comforting his ex-wife. From today onwards, they were no longer married, free from worrying about causing each other conflicts, free to live the lives they wanted. Yet why did it still hurt so much inside?

”Grandpa, I know, but I still can’t deceive myself like my parents did!”
