My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2284: Chapter 2117: Moments of Happiness

Thinking about my happiest moment, it was probably when you were expecting our son.

Ever since Old Master Zhang found out his daughter-in-law was pregnant, he personally cooked a variety of nourishing soups every day, like chicken soup, fish soup, bone broth—anything you could think of. It was simply endless!

This morning, as Ran Zhihan came downstairs into the living room, she saw the table full of nourishing soups and found it impossible to resist, but she really didn’t want to keep drinking these soups. She’s been having them for two months now, every day it’s these soups. How could her body take it? Yet, when she saw her grandfather busy in the kitchen for her, she couldn’t refuse his good intentions. How could she tell her grandfather? If she talked like that, wouldn’t it break his heart? She could only endure it time and time again, but she also felt increasingly nauseous seeing these soups. Maybe it’s a sign of pregnancy, that’s why it’s happening.

”Zhihan, you’re up. Come and taste the new nourishing soup grandpa cooked for you. It’s a new recipe and even more delicious than before! You need to drink more for the sake of the baby. You don’t have to go to work anymore, just stay home every day, and grandpa will cook for you and take care of you, okay? I want to make sure you’re strong and healthy on the day you give birth, to ensure the baby arrives safely!”

”Grandpa, my stomach feels uncomfortable today. Can I skip the soup this time? I just want to rest a bit, and once I feel better, I can have the soup, alright?”

Upon hearing his granddaughter-in-law say her stomach was uncomfortable, Old Master Zhang immediately disregarded everything else and hurriedly tried to pull her out the door, wanting to take her to the hospital.

”Why is your stomach suddenly uncomfortable? Are you sick? This isn’t a small matter. You’re not alone now; you’re two people. Any discomfort, we need to head to the hospital right away. Let’s get you to the hospital for a proper examination, so your health doesn’t suffer during pregnancy, which would be irreparable!”

”Grandpa, I’m alright. I just need a bit of rest. Please let me peacefully sleep at home, okay? After I wake up, I’ll be fine, and then I’ll have the soup you made for me, is that alright?”

”How can that be? If there’s something wrong, you must go to the hospital. You’re two people now, do you understand? It’s not just about you, it’s also about the baby inside you. I want you to be safe and sound; you wouldn’t want the baby to see its mom unwell, right? The baby can only be healthy if the mom is healthy. Don’t you understand this? Don’t be so stubborn about this. I can let you decide about other matters, but not this one. We need to go to the hospital immediately, do you hear me?”

Ran Zhihan reluctantly followed her grandfather to the hospital. After repeated examinations by the doctor, she found out why her stomach was uncomfortable. It was because she drank nourishing soup for two months straight. These soups can be quite beneficial when consumed occasionally by pregnant women, but drinking them frequently can lead to constipation and other issues. When Old Master Zhao heard that his granddaughter-in-law was getting sick due to the nutritious soups he made for her, he was a bit upset inside. How could his good intentions cause bad results? Was he really that useless? Was it because he was too old to handle anything now? The more he thought about it, the more upset he became. Ran Zhihan, seeing her grandfather’s dejected look, couldn’t bear it. She quickly comforted him, saying, ”Don’t listen to the doctor’s nonsense. Our matters don’t need outsiders to dictate. As long as we are doing well, isn’t that enough? I know you made all those delicious soups with my wellbeing in mind. How could kind intentions lead to poor outcomes? Don’t blame yourself. Maybe I’ve not been exercising enough lately, hence these issues. Rest assured, I’ll exercise more and drink the soups; there won’t be any problem. Grandpa still needs to cook more soups for me, how could he be so downcast? If my darling son finds out I mistreat his great-grandfather, he surely won’t forgive me!”

”Zhihan, don’t comfort me. I have realized it’s because of the nourishing soups I’ve been making for two months that your stomach is uncomfortable. If you keep drinking them like this, you might face intestinal obstructions during childbirth, preventing a smooth delivery. You wouldn’t want to suffer like that. I wish for you to deliver your baby safely.”

”Grandpa, don’t worry so much. These things are just unfounded rumors. Why would you believe outsiders? Perhaps they said it just to deceive us. Shouldn’t we live our own lives well, instead of listening to others’ idle talk? Although they’re doctors, not everything they say is right. We shouldn’t blindly follow every word the doctors say, because we might find out the truth is different from what they say. Grandpa, you should trust me as a middle-aged woman. Believe in my ability to bring my son safely into this world. Would you truly doubt my responsibility for my son based on a few words from the doctor, right? The son I deliver will definitely be a big healthy boy, safe and sound. Grandpa, this matter has nothing to do with you. Don’t take it to heart. Just being by my side is the greatest support for me. I know over the years you’ve done too much for me, and now that I’m pregnant, you selflessly support me again. You’re already at such an age, yet you’re still busy in the kitchen for me, cooking soups every day. Isn’t it dangerous in there? From now on, you should always be by my side and not sneak into the kitchen, alright? My baby won’t be happy knowing Mommy mistreats his great-grandpa!”

When Old Master Zhang heard what his granddaughter-in-law said, he laughed out loud. Upon hearing his hearty laughter, Ran Zhihan understood her grandfather would indeed be the one who loves her child the most, confirming her insistence on keeping the baby.

Those were the most comforting times for me!
