My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2268: Chapter 2101: Out of Season

If the Spring night could step into my world, wouldn’t that be wonderful? Right now, my world is just a shade of gray!

Zhang Zhentian knows that for the rest of his life, he will never have another chance to return to his father. This time, he truly made his father too angry. Why was he so foolish to say and do those things? A few honest words wouldn’t have been fatal. Why did he make his father so sad and upset for him? Why is he always making choices that hurt his parents the most? Is he really still a son, after all he’s done? His actions have rendered him unforgivable in everyone’s eyes, without any means of redemption. Is he truly born to be a villain beyond redemption?

As Zhang Zhentian was trapped in his thoughts, his phone rang. He checked the caller ID and saw it was his wife. After so many years, she had never contacted him before. Today marked the first time. Could there be something important she wanted to discuss with him? Or was there another motive? This many years later, he’s become numb and doesn’t know what he truly wants or why he’s done all that he has. Yet, the person who broke his heart is still him, and now, how should he make his choice?

”I wonder what you have to say after calling me. After all these years, you’ve never reached out, and today of all days, has the sun risen from the west, or is there something you need from me? You call me unexpectedly, and you know, looking at you right now, I’m left questioning what I ever saw in you. Thinking back on all that I sacrificed for you, abandoned for you, only for everything I’ve given to be so insignificant in your eyes. Perhaps it’s my fate to live a solitary life. At the time, nobody knew why I made those decisions. Do you know, today, I once again had an argument with my father because of you, and this time, he’s completely kicked me out of the house. Are you satisfied now? I’ve done all these things without you ever considering for whom it was. All the mistakes I made, you never understood why they happened. Maybe in your eyes, I’m nothing, but do you know? To me, you are everything—you are my whole world. For you, I can give up everything, even my parents. Yet, in your eyes, you would never do these things for me because you always think I’m willing to pay the price for you, that I’m doing it gladly without expecting anything in return, right?”

Xia Jing didn’t expect that before she even said anything, her husband had already spoken so much. No, calling him her husband was no longer appropriate; it should be ex-husband.

”What do you mean by saying all these things? I never asked you to do anything for me. You made those choices recklessly; do you expect to blame me for them? Each action you took, how can you demand that I reciprocate equally? You’ve been with me, and your sacrifices were expecting a return, weren’t they? I was happy every day with you, but often you made me feel suffocated. Didn’t I also make sacrifices for you? Remember, it was to be with you that I used all my savings to help save your father’s company. Yet even after he agreed to let us be together, you, in wanting to leave with me to another place, incurred his resentment. So, he has never forgiven us, and you always insist on lingering at home. How do you think this reflects on him? You never consider my feelings when you act, so why should I consider yours now? We have no relation whatsoever, and whatever you say or do has nothing to do with me. I hope you won’t connect any future events to me, as it makes you seem shameless. You make all these mistakes and still want to pin it all on me? I wasn’t born to be your scapegoat, and I’ve endured carrying the blame for you. What else do you want from me?”

”How could you say you’ve carried endless blame for me? Ask yourself, how much did you do for me? How much have I done? Can you ever carry out your plans without being self-centered? Isn’t there anything you can’t remember about the things you’ve done? Why do you shove these things onto me when they are clearly intertwined with you? After all, aren’t you unwilling to accept responsibility for the consequences of your actions? How did I end up marrying someone like you, a wife lacking nerve and courage?”

Xia Jingyi heard and became angry: ”Yes, I’m a person lacking nerve and courage, and what are you going to do about it? You expect to lay everything on me as before? Let me tell you, it’s impossible. I will never impersonate for you again for things I haven’t done, as it makes me feel too exhausted to live. Time and again, I’ve made sacrifices for you, but what about you? Do you constantly blame me for all the mistakes you’ve made? Hearts are made of flesh, and don’t you fear that through such abuse you’ll empty my heart? For so long now, your true thoughts have been known to me. You clearly understand the things you’ve done. You always want to leave the repercussions to me because you’re afraid to face them. You know who you are, as nobody is more aware of the terror and awfulness you embody. Everything you’ve done brings shame to everyone involved.”

”Why say anything to me, then? Isn’t talking to me just a waste of breath, a waste of your tongue? Well, from now on, spare me your words. I just don’t get it; why call me if you enjoy arguing with me so much?

Was it simply to continue bickering with me? Do you find this interesting? After so many years of fighting and squabbling, just what do you want to achieve by continuing it? Do you genuinely feel that this will lead to happiness, to perfection?”

Maybe I should never have intruded in your world.
