My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2262: Chapter 2095: Utter Devotion

My love for you is unwavering, whether you like it or not, I’ll cling to you like this.

If Old Master Zhang hadn’t heard his granddaughter-in-law asking him such questions, he wouldn’t believe that his own body would react this way; he couldn’t understand why his grandson would say such things to his wife. He always knew how much his wife loved his granddaughter-in-law, but why did such a thing happen today? Could there really be hidden truths in between?

Old Master Zhang thought about it; he couldn’t sleep all night. He couldn’t comprehend what thoughts and feelings were in his grandson’s heart. He could only rely on his own calm heart to judge his grandson’s character. Old Master Zhang believed that no matter what, his grandson wouldn’t disappoint him unless there was a really compelling reason forcing him to make such a decision, or perhaps he promised someone else. He decided to call Zhang Yichen to ask him.

The next day, Old Master Zhang got up early; he leisurely sat in the living room waiting for his grandson. He wanted to wait for his grandson to come down and clarify this matter; otherwise, his heart wouldn’t be at ease.

Time passed, and six hours had gone by; it was now ten in the morning, and his grandson finally got up. As soon as Zhang Yichen came downstairs, he saw his grandfather sitting in the living room. He understood that his grandfather was definitely waiting for him, otherwise, his grandfather wouldn’t sit alone in the living room for so long without coming to find him.

”Grandpa, did you get up early to wait for me?” Zhang Yichen asked.

”You little rascal, you seem to understand your grandpa’s thoughts quite well. But grandpa doesn’t understand why you would treat your wife this way? Why did you say such things to her on your wedding night? Do you know that your conditions made it hard for your wife to accept? Can you tell grandpa why you did it?”

”Grandpa, there is no reason; I just feel that both of us are still young, and we got married so early because of love. However, I don’t want us to have the fruit of our love too early. If, in three years, our relationship isn’t working out, how would she leave? I don’t want my child and I to become an obstacle for her if she eventually decides to leave me. Grandpa, in fact, I didn’t have bad intentions doing this; I was being considerate. If after three years, she is still willing to walk with me hand in hand to create our world, then I will never leave her in my lifetime. But if our relationship can’t withstand three years, how should she leave me? If within these three years, our relationship repeatedly faces conflicts, yet we have a child, how would you let her leave me? I can’t be this selfish; she’s the girl I love most, and I must consider her. I can’t put my personal emotions onto her; I don’t understand what she’s thinking in her heart now, even though she’s already married to me and become my wife now! Grandpa, by explaining to you like this, can you understand my sincere intentions?”

Old Master Zhang sighed and said, ”Child, of course, grandpa knows you’re doing this with good intentions, but have you considered your wife’s feelings? Your wife is deeply unbalanced in her heart. If it were me, I wouldn’t feel balanced either. I worked hard for the man I love, choosing to marry him, disregarding even my parents. But ultimately, my beloved man brings up having a child three years later on our wedding night. Can you accept such a statement? When you made this decision, did you consider asking your wife? You shouldn’t let her be sad over such a small matter. Grandpa knows everything you do is responsible and comes from your heart because you never want all this to become so embarrassing, because, in your heart, you always value your wife deeply. But do you understand? In your wife’s eyes, she cares about why you don’t want to have the fruit of your love with her. Child, you’re a smart person, the smartest in generations of the Zhang Family, but can you understand? When you’re in love, you’re deeply involved and can’t extricate yourself. You clearly know this would hurt your wife a lot, but you still chose to do it. What reason makes you let your wife feel so hurt and unable to give a reasonable explanation? You should explain this matter to me, shouldn’t you?”

”Grandpa, I promised my in-laws not to tell anyone, but today you’re my elder, so I’ll tell you. When I married my wife, I promised my in-laws that within three years, I wouldn’t have a child with my wife. Because in these three years, if our relationship didn’t work out, there would still be a way out for both of us. If three years later we still remain the same, then we will have our own child. That’s the promise and responsibility I made as a man. Since I made such a promise to my in-laws, I must fulfill it, no matter the cost, even if my wife refuses to trust me, I can only accept it. After all, it’s the choice I made. If I hadn’t said that initially, I couldn’t be with the girl I love. The decision at that time was made reluctantly, but I didn’t expect it to hurt my wife this much, which leaves my heart unable to accept it. If I had known the result would be like this, I wouldn’t have made such a promise to my in-laws, even if it meant death!”

”Child, for this matter, you could have directly told your wife. Why didn’t you tell her? Do you think it’s really okay to do this? You’ve let your wife be heartbroken over a promise made impulsively. Can your heart really bear it? She loves you enough to abandon everything, but why would you do this to her? I really can’t figure out what problem would cause your relationship to become like this. Bringing up not having a child on the wedding night? You’d better come clean with your wife; if she finds out the truth on her own, you two will really end up arguing. It’s one thing you should always tell her, no matter what her parents tell you or what promise you made to her parents. You should inform your wife about these things; it is the most basic respect and trust between two people...”

And I ask you, for whom have you ever stayed up all night, and where does that leave me?
