My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2285: Chapter 2118: Even If We Knew All Along

Although sometimes we know that many things are predetermined from the start, we still experience the utmost joy!

”We are all adults now, and you should understand certain truths that many children cannot grasp. Many times, respecting the deceased is a basic form of morality. You know that they have no chance of recovery now. If you insist on keeping her in this world, it would cause her great suffering. Do you understand? With tubes all over her body and supported by a ventilator, that feeling is truly painful. She cannot move on her own and relies entirely on these machines to maintain her vital signs. If at any moment she falls off these machines, then her life would inevitably end. Do you know how this feeling can lead you to an emotional breakdown? Maybe you’ve never thought about how your grandfather truly feels. What you’re thinking is just your own wishful ideas.”

”Yichen, it’s easy for you to say because you’re not in my shoes. If one day your grandfather is in the same situation as mine, with tubes all over and a ventilator to sustain life, would your heart be as calm as it is now? Could you speak to me like this, standing here as if nothing happened? You should sometimes put yourself in my shoes. Whenever you say these things, I feel deep distress watching my grandfather lie there, and yet I am powerless. I wish more than anything that the person lying there was me. Every time I see my grandfather restricted by those machines and unable to move, it makes me so uncomfortable. Do you understand?” Lei Jian said to Zhang Yichen, ”I know we are like brothers, although we don’t have the bond of blood, our relationship is as good as any blood-related brothers. Do you understand? I don’t know if you can ever feel what I’m going through, but my heart is very troubled. If a loved one who has been so good to me suddenly has to leave, I simply cannot accept it!”

Zhang Yichen sighed. He felt that his brother was right. If it were his grandfather lying here, sustained by a ventilator, his heart would also feel unbearable. His grandfather had been so kind to him, even though he had once hit him, he never intended to harm him. No matter what decision Yichen wanted to make, his grandfather always supported him unconditionally. If one day his grandfather truly left him, what choices would he have left? He couldn’t live without his grandfather. In Yichen’s eyes, his grandfather was more important than his parents, as he had spent over a decade with him. It was his grandfather who had watched him grow up and gave him everything. His grandfather’s guidance had led to his successes today. Despite his grandfather being over ninety years old, Yichen still hoped he could live safely into his hundreds. Watching his grandfather live on would fill him with unparalleled joy, without any sadness. Yet, the prospect of that day coming truly frightened him. If that day really came, what would he do?

”Actually, don’t think I’m just talking without understanding. Sometimes I worry, too. I’m terrified that my grandfather might end up lying here, motionless, like yours. I dread that day, which is why I try to comfort you. If it were my grandfather lying here, my feelings would be much worse than yours because my grandfather treats me even better. Do you know that a loved one’s departure signifies their rebirth in another world? Here, they are disease-ridden, full of pain, unable to enjoy life. Perhaps leaving is their only release. In another world, they don’t face any more suffering and can live happily. But for those still in this world, watching a loved one leave while being helpless is a torment hard to describe. We need to learn to grow through these experiences; without going through hardships, how can we ever find a rainbow? If we don’t struggle through difficult situations step by step, how can we grow? Now, I know this is a fate already decided, but when that day arrives, it’s hard for anyone to accept. I also know your grandfather. You should understand that living on your mother’s kidney for so many years hasn’t been easy. Sometimes, you must try seeing things from another perspective. For your grandfather, his departure might not seem regretful, for he lived these extra years thanks to your mother’s kidney, without ever knowing whose it was. Wouldn’t you think, at heart, your grandfather might feel joy for seeing his grandson grow up to adulthood?”

”Alright, I understand what to do now. Maybe over time, my mother will come to terms with it. Time is the best healer for those wounds, but I can’t give you a definitive answer now because I still can’t accept the reality that my grandfather watches over me like this. Seeing him in that state, I can’t find happiness. Once my emotions settle, I’ll reach out to you. Thank you for being here to comfort me today, helping me realize the inevitability of this predetermined fate. There is no way to change it. It’s impossible to give grandfather another chance. Grandfather has already taken one of my mother’s kidneys. If he knew the truth, the pain would be unbearable, realizing that his survival depended on his daughter’s kidney. That would become a lifelong sorrow. Revealing the truth to him could lead him to depart with heartache, unable to find peace...”

”I’m glad you understand. Once you’ve come to see clarity in all of this, you will never despair over anything again and will cultivate great strength. I won’t burden you with more words. My wife is expecting, so I need to go back and take good care of her. Call me directly if something comes up; I will come to you immediately!”

Life comes at us so suddenly, yet what we have is filled with joy!
