My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2287: Chapter 2120: The Resolve of the Past

No one expected that, back when I was so determined, I’d end up like this now!

”Nai’er, come quickly to great-grandfather, he has something to say to you. Do you not want to know where your grandpa and grandma are? If you want to know where they are, hurry and come find me!”

Upon hearing that she could learn the whereabouts of her grandparents, Zhang Ni immediately and eagerly ran towards her great-grandfather. When she arrived in his arms, Old Master Zhang said to her, ”My Nai’er is the sweetest. Listen to what great-grandfather has to tell you slowly, alright? Let me tell you a story too. In the past, great-grandfather didn’t agree with his son and daughter-in-law being together. Yet, this boy and this girl tried every means to be together; they sacrificed immensely for each other. Ultimately, the man couldn’t resist his son’s and girl’s life together, and he decided to let them marry. After they married, they had their own child. However, when the child was born, the woman left alone for abroad. Did you know that? At that time, this little boy was quite upset, although he was just a month old. But as their son grew up, he sought to prove to his parents that he wasn’t useless; he wanted his parents to understand that even without them, he could still be the most talented person in the world. No one would have thought that this boy eventually succeeded; he became a genius esteemed by many, with surpassing looks and intellect unmatched by anything. But his parents came back on this day!”

Zhang Ni didn’t understand what this meant, and she asked Old Master Zhang, ”Great-grandfather, I don’t quite get it. If his parents came back, why isn’t the little boy happy? Wasn’t he always hoping for his parents to be with him? If my parents weren’t by my side, I would surely cry every day, unwilling to let go of them. If my parents ever abandoned me, I’d be devastated...”

Upon hearing these words from the little rascal, Old Master Zhang felt a mix of laughter and tears. Such differences indeed, but why do all these differences fall upon this family?

”Nai’er, maybe you think that with his parents back by his side, the little boy should be happy. But do you know that actually having them back made him even more painful inside? He didn’t know how to face his parents. They repeatedly appeared around the little boy and destroyed his happiness. Ultimately, despite many hardships, the boy was determined to be with the woman he loved, and they had their own child. Their life was originally calm and stable, but storms often occur unexpectedly, and such was the case. They couldn’t have predicted that his parents who were together just a few days ago suddenly got divorced. Now that they’re divorced, they have to separate and can’t return home...”

”Great-grandfather, you’re talking about my grandpa and grandma, aren’t you? Did they get divorced, and that’s why they can’t be with me? But I really hope they can be with me. The thing I want most in this life seems to be having my grandpa and grandma with me, and then having my mom and dad with me, and my great-grandfather with me. Of course, what I love most is great-grandfather holding me every day. The thing I love most is when great-grandfather holds me. But time always seems to pass quickly; each day, before I can accomplish what I want to finish most, it’s already nighttime. Then, when I wake up after sleeping, it’s already daybreak. I always feel like time is never enough. I really wish time could just stop there, oh, my grandpa, my mom and dad could be around me, but why must time keep moving? Great-grandfather, can you tell me why time keeps circling endlessly, why it can’t just stop there?”

”Silly child, time will never stop, nor will it halt for a person. You need to understand, time flies and waits for no one. Once a certain period is lost, it’ll never return. You should always cherish time, and you’ll live a colorful and flavorful life. Don’t waste time; no period can stop and let you waste it. Since you’ve already wasted today’s time, you should think about how to finish today’s tasks. I hope you know, never leave today’s tasks to tomorrow, because tomorrow has its own tasks to complete. If you don’t finish today’s tasks, and push them to tomorrow, then you’ll struggle to complete tomorrow’s tasks. This will push things to the day after, pushing day by day, year by year, until you realize you’ve never completed your desires fully, never enjoyed playing happily!”

”Great-grandfather, I understand now. I will cherish time, using it as my effort. I will never let time dominate over me. I will tread time beneath my feet, allowing it to follow my steps, not me living at its mercy...”

Listening to Zhang Ni’s words, Old Master Zhang found the child’s speech extraordinary, opening his eyes to a new understanding. Even though he knew the child always wished for her grandparents to be back with her, he definitely wouldn’t let it move him now. They can’t come home if they once decided to leave. Having chosen to leave, there’s no coming back. Time won’t freeze and wait. They were given the chance before but failed to cherish it, so why should he now wrack his brain trying to bring them back? It’s all in vain.

Life is a path you choose to walk, an adventure you decide to experience. You might say my past determination is now gone!
