My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2272: Chapter 2105: Life

Many things that are perfect might not necessarily be life itself; what he possesses is the truest emotion deep in every person’s heart.

Xia Jing actually understood within her heart; even if she left Zhang Zhentian in this lifetime, she would never continue life with anyone else. She had already said it before: Zhang Zhentian would be her only husband for life, and she would definitely not marry another person. But even so, she still insisted on divorcing Zhang Zhentian!

”Back then, it was you who wanted the divorce, and now it’s you who doesn’t want the divorce. What do you want me to do exactly? Must everything follow your wishes? When have you considered my feelings? Because of my lie, you wanted a divorce without giving me any room to explain. Since that’s the case, why do you do this? Living like this together brings no meaning, it only leads to greater harm between us. Don’t you want to live a happy and joyful life? We’ve been together for over a decade, during which we’ve weathered so many storms. No matter the difficulty, it was always you who gave me courage and stopped me from despairing. Each time, we’d choose to face things calmly, just like how you chose to divorce me. Initially, I couldn’t accept it; I went everywhere asking for help, hoping they could persuade you not to divorce me. But the eventual result forced me to accept it anyway. Ultimately, I chose to face it calmly because, though every past event could be faced calmly, why can’t this one be as well? Facing now calmly is a good result for both you and me, right? I know you want to say something to me, but please don’t say these things anymore. I must admit, there is indeed still spot for you in my heart, but your every word and action deeply chills me. Because of your lie, you resolutely wanted to divorce me, ignoring the decades of marital feelings entirely...”

Xia Jing grew increasingly sad as she spoke. How could she easily accept that the beloved person of her heart wanted to break up over a lie she made, and with such resolute attitude? She never begged anyone, but for Zhang Zhentian she did so humbly not once but multiple times. Yet, in Zhang Zhentian’s eyes, no matter what Xia Jing did, it never earned her a good word from him, leaving Xia Jing’s heart truly hard-wrenched.

Seeing his wife say such things, Zhang Zhentian felt deeply hurt. Had his wife felt so unhappy for so long? What was the point of all his efforts throughout the years?

”Right now, I don’t want to say anything, just ask you one thing. In your eyes, what have all these years of my efforts been for? Were they for myself? Did everything I do appear so selfish in your view? You say my actions did not consider your feelings, but did you ever consider mine from my perspective? You never knew what I truly needed. You say the decades of marital feelings are insignificant in my heart, but do they truly mean that much in yours? If so, I will apologize now, but please don’t lie to me out of courtesy...”

For a day, Xia Jing pondered over Zhentian’s words, and they made her feel even more unhappy.

”What do you mean? Please tell me what you mean. In your eyes, are every word I say a lie? Since that’s the case, why should we continue this reluctant life? Forced marriages don’t bring happiness. To be with you, I gave up so much, even my own life. But the end result is you constantly believe I speak lies. Let’s go inside and handle the procedures; standing at this gate isn’t good if others see us. Though we’ve weathered many storms, our feelings can’t surpass a single lie. In your heart, I was never there; when needed you kept me by your side, and cast me away when unnecessary. To you, I was a pet, ever at your call, dispensable at a moment’s notice. You never considered my feelings from my position. I often wondered: if the day comes when we can no longer proceed, what would happen? Would you bow to me or speak of a separation? But never did I foresee this day arriving so swiftly. You abruptly told me of divorce, catching me off guard. Your blow struck me so hard. I once treasured you above all things, but I won’t anymore. Now I understand clearly: don’t hold anyone too dear, they might not have a place for you, seeking not you, but interests!”

”You’re mistaken. All I’ve ever wanted was you; I can forego any interests, abstain from deceitful acts. I only hope for you to be with me. Just having you suffices for me in this lifetime. But things are as they are now, and I realize your heart is cold and unwilling to stay with me anymore. Today’s outcome is a result of my consecutive actions; I drove you to this point. I can’t blame anyone except my own folly in hurting a wife who loved me so deeply. If you truly insist on this divorce, I will not beg any longer, as I too have dignity. For you, I bowed and abandoned my dignity, because in my heart you are the most important. However, with your decision, I won’t continue shamelessly. That would only confirm your view of me lacking ambition!”

”In truth, I really don’t want to part from you. Do you think I lack feelings for you? Over the years, my affection for you deepened immensely. Even beyond sacrificing my life, I’ve cherished you far above the world. I couldn’t bear witness to anyone hurting you, nor to you being sad for anyone. My greatest mistake was taking you away from the Zhang Family, separating you from your father and son, causing you to miss years of paternal love for your child. This is something I cannot remedy in this lifetime. At this point, there’s nothing left to say. Let’s quickly handle the divorce papers at the civil bureau’s entrance, so you can eventually return to live the happy life you want, without worrying of running into me or fearing if I’d lie again. The day you leave will mark your true liberation; perhaps leaving me is your greatest joy. Keeping you tethered by force serves no purpose...”

All pains from unwavering love, all wounds from emotion, will one day be soothed by time.
