My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2263: Chapter 2096: Once for Whom

After we parted, I don’t have to lie. Actually, I’m not that strong.

Time flies; in the blink of an eye, Zhang Yichen has already recovered and been discharged from the hospital. He currently has no other thoughts; he just wants to quickly bring the girl he loves home to marry her. He cannot let the woman he loves the most leave his side again, as that feeling would utterly drive him to despair.

Nearly two weeks of hospitalization felt like an eternity to him. In the hospital, he couldn’t wait to be discharged, feeling like he was living a life akin to that of a prisoner. Now that he finally got his wish and is discharged, why does he still feel unhappy? Could it be because he hasn’t yet fulfilled his greatest wish of making his beloved woman his true wife? But these matters cannot be rushed merely by his urgency; everything here requires mutual parental consent, and his parents must formally propose marriage to the parents of the woman he loves.

Although he doesn’t understand a lot, he knows at least that if a man and a woman truly want to marry, they must have mutual parental consent. The man must also present betrothal gifts when proposing to the woman’s parents. Once the woman’s parents formally agree to their relationship, it can truly be considered as mutual parental consent. Only then can they truly get engaged and become husband and wife; otherwise, it wouldn’t be legitimate.

”Yichen, congratulations! Today you finally got discharged as you wished. I know how bored you felt staying in the hospital for this week, and you couldn’t wait to get out, but the world is cruel; the doctors didn’t agree to discharge you if you weren’t fully recovered. You were trapped in the hospital for a week! Now that you’re out, do you feel much more relaxed, no longer having to endure the hospital’s medicinal smell?” Ran Zhihan said with a playful smile to Zhang Yichen.

”You really understand me. You have no idea how ecstatic I was the moment I stepped out of the hospital doors. I finally walked out of this prison-like hospital. I no longer have to stay in this soul-crushing place. Do you know? The whole time I was conscious, I was bombarded with the stench of disinfectant. It’s a smell I’ll never forget. I suspect I won’t even be able to eat for the next few days because my nose was so overwhelmed; every breath I took was filled with that disinfectant smell. Even after leaving the hospital, I can still smell it. I have no idea how many days it’ll take for this smell to disappear from my mind!”

”Alright, alright. Now that you’ve gotten your wish and been discharged, stop complaining about everything. Think about it: you managed to get discharged so quickly thanks to my attentive care, didn’t you? You haven’t even thanked me, yet here you are complaining about the hospital’s disinfectant smell. Do you think I didn’t smell it while taking care of you all these days? I did, but I had no choice because the man I love most was lying in there, right?”

”Yes, yes, thank you, my beloved woman. If it weren’t for you taking care of me, I would have crumbled these past few days. But it’s precisely your care that allowed me to be discharged so soon. I’m also quite grateful that I got sick this time. If I hadn’t been in an urgent car accident, you wouldn’t have agreed to stay by my side, let alone spending your life with me, right? I truly found fortune in misfortune. I’m too happy to complain about my prolonged hospital stay. It’s just that I couldn’t stand the hospital’s disinfectant smell; it’s really unpleasant!”

...

While the two of them were engrossed in conversation, Xia Jing, Zhang Zhentian, and Old Master Zhang approached them.

”Uncle, Aunt, Grandpa, you’re here. Look, hasn’t he already recovered and been discharged?” Ran Zhihan said.

”Good child, thank you for tirelessly taking care of him these past days. Without your care, he couldn’t have been discharged so quickly. Look at him now, full of life, which truly surprises us. You took such good care of him these days, leaving us at a loss for thanks. Once we return home, let’s discuss your marriage plans, alright?” Xia Jing said.

Ran Zhihan’s face blushed instantly: ”Auntie, there’s no need to rush this. I still want to wait a little bit before discussing our marriage. He just recovered and got discharged; he can’t be too exhausted. I should let him rest well...”

”Look at her, such a shy girl. Why weren’t you shy when you two were showing affection earlier? Now that the elders are here, you’ve become so coy?”

”Wife, stop teasing Zhihan!” Zhang Zhentian said to Xia Jing.

Upon hearing how Zhang Zhentian addressed her, Xia Jing felt displeased: ”We’ve already divorced. I hope you can watch your words. Don’t call me that, as it just makes me feel you are quite unruly!”

”Auntie, we should head home. The wind is picking up, and Yichen just got discharged and hasn’t fully recovered. We should head home for him to rest. If he’s caught in the wind, he might have a relapse!”

Hearing this, Xia Jing agreed, as she didn’t want her son to catch a cold and get sick again.

Old Master Zhang said, ”Exactly. Let’s not stand at the hospital entrance any longer; it’s too awkward. Let’s go home where it’s warm and cozy and feels much better than here...”

The group got into their private car and returned to the Zhang Family Mansion. Once back, Zhang Zhentian kept addressing Xia Jing as ’wife’ repeatedly, which was too much for Xia Jing to bear, so she directly pulled Zhang Zhentian into her former bedroom.

”Wife, be gentle; don’t hurt your husband. Don’t you know how to cherish such a husband?” Zhang Zhentian continued his thoughtless exclamations, making Xia Jing even more intolerant.

”Zhang Zhentian, how many times do I need to tell you? We’re already divorced. Stop this nonsense. Do you know that this behavior makes me look down on you? What’s a grown man doing? Divorced means divorced. There’s no going back to our previous status. Why do you keep clinging to me? Didn’t you think about this outcome when you decided to let go? Now that you’ve made that decision, why beg me now? You’re making me feel disgusted, you know? Stop calling me that in front of others!”

Walking aimlessly, unable to find an exit, everything feels so uncertain!
