My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2279: Chapter 2112: Having You Is Enough

I really, really love you. With you here, I’m the happiest person in the world.

After Old Master Zhang and Zhang Yichen returned to the Zhang Family from the exit of the valley, Aunt Xu brought out all of Zhang Yichen’s favorite dishes for him. Seeing all his favorite dishes laid out in front of him, he smiled at Aunt Xu, gently hugged her, and said, ”Aunt Xu, thank you. These past ten years, thank you for taking care of me. It’s a pity my parents aren’t here, but you’re like my parents to me. In my heart, you’re basically my godmother. I’m really grateful for how you’ve looked after me these ten years. Sit down and eat with me, don’t just stand there!”

Aunt Xu was a little flattered and overwhelmed. She hadn’t expected Zhang Yichen to talk to her in this tone. Although she’d been treated well before, this young master had never spoken to her like this. When she heard him say she was like his godmother, she was genuinely overjoyed, almost to the point of jumping up. She’d never had a son in her life, and in her heart she’d always treated Zhang Yichen as her own son. She hadn’t expected that heaven would not disappoint her efforts and would give her a godson. Now she felt she could die without regrets.

”Young Master, please don’t say that to me, I can’t bear it. I’m just a nanny, how could I become Young Master’s godmother? Please just think of me as your nanny!” Aunt Xu said to Zhang Yichen, flustered and flattered.

Zhang Yichen smiled. He really hadn’t expected that after ten years together, Aunt Xu would still act so distant. He knew Aunt Xu had no children of her own and that, in her heart, she treated him as her son, so he saw no need to be shy about it. He said to her, ”Aunt Xu, don’t be so polite with me. All these years you’ve been the one taking care of me. Even if there’s no credit, there’s hard work. Me recognizing you as my godmother is a good thing, isn’t it? Besides, you don’t have any children. In the future I can support you in your old age and be there at the end. Just treat me as your own flesh-and-blood son, otherwise all these years of your care will have been for nothing, right? I know you never expected anything in return for looking after me—because I’m so cute!—but I still hope you’ll accept me as your godson.”

The two of them went back and forth like this, one sentence after another, and in the end Aunt Xu just couldn’t refuse Zhang Yichen anymore, so she agreed.

United States!

Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei had already been living in the United States for ten years. Here, she had come to see just how happy her own little family was. Their three sons—Nian Jun was three years older than his two younger brothers. Because of that, he fully lived up to the responsibilities an eldest brother should take on. He let his younger brothers have their way in everything. Those two little brothers were really mischievous; they wanted to fight their big brother over everything. But Nian Jun felt this was a kind of happiness, because if his brothers could argue with him over such little things, it meant that in the future they’d definitely be very, very close to him. The three of them were very happy together. Watching their three sons squabble back and forth like this every day, Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei were both speechless, but for the three kids, this was exactly where their joy lay!

Xiao Wei slowly walked up behind Li Jiayuan and gently wrapped his arms around her from behind. He said to her, ”Wife, do you still regret coming with me to the United States? Look, if we hadn’t come to the United States, how could we possibly be seeing such a harmonious scene between these three brothers today? Don’t you think our sons are really amazing? The eldest has done everything an eldest brother should do. The two younger ones are very naughty, but they both really dote on their big brother. Only three brothers like this can truly be called close. Blood ties are such a strange thing. If they didn’t share blood, their relationship probably wouldn’t be this good. How about we give the three of them a little sister?”

When Li Jiayuan heard what Xiao Wei said, she was stunned. All the muscles in her body suddenly tensed. What? Another daughter? No way, have mercy!

Xiao Wei felt the reaction in her body and chuckled, speaking to her with indulgent affection: ”Alright, alright, wife, I was just teasing you. We already have three sons. That’s more than enough for me. Thank you for giving me three such adorable children. Thank you for enduring so much pain for me. Thank you for giving up your hometown for me. I love you, I truly love you from the bottom of my heart. We’re going to be together for a lifetime. If you want to go back to our country, just tell me; we can fly back together for a visit. It’s been a long time since I went back too!”

Hearing Xiao Wei say this to her, she knew he was comforting her. How could she still act willfully? She was already the mother of a family; she should carry herself like the mistress of the household now, instead of being as headstrong and impulsive as before. Every decision she made now had to be made with the children in mind—she couldn’t be selfish anymore, or she would hurt the people she loved or those who loved her. Now she finally understood what real love was. Love wasn’t about you trailing after him, or him following you around everywhere; it was about a whole family being able to live together peacefully. That was the true happiness of this world. If you can’t even attain this most ordinary kind of happiness, what right do you have to talk about being in love with someone?

”Husband, there’s no need. I’ve already gotten used to life in the United States. Besides, even though we can’t see our little nephew back home, haven’t we seen my older sister and brother-in-law? Look at them, traveling around the world together—they seem pretty happy too. It’s just a pity about our little nephew. Barely a month old, and they heartlessly left him behind back home. I don’t know if, when he grows up, our nephew will end up hating his parents.”

Hearing this, Xiao Wei also remembered. ”Yeah, a baby barely a month old, abandoned by his own parents. It’s impossible for that child not to resent them when he grows up. But since Sis and Brother-in-law chose this path, then this is their family business from now on. We shouldn’t interfere. None of us can say for sure how things will turn out. Maybe the child will hate his parents in the future. But maybe, on the day his parents come back, he’ll stop hating them. You know how painful it is for someone to grow up without a parents’ love. I never imagined my own nephew would have to endure the same pain as I did. I really don’t know what Sis is thinking. She’s an orphan too—she knows exactly how lonely an orphan’s heart is. How could she let her own son experience the same pain she did?”

Li Jiayuan let out a sigh and said to Xiao Wei, ”Yeah, I really don’t know what parents nowadays are thinking. Fortunately our children don’t have to go through that. Otherwise even I wouldn’t be able to forgive the harm I’d caused them. If it were me, and my children chose to hate me for life because I abandoned them, I would have no choice but to accept it willingly, because it would all be the consequence of my own choices. Once you’ve made a choice, you have to crawl on your knees and see it through to the bitter end, even if it leaves you with nowhere to go.”

Every day without you is agony; every single minute and second is torment.
