My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2264: Chapter 2097: Unafraid of the Future

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve felt despair, yet I still persist, refusing to give up.

”All these years with you, I’ve never regretted anything I’ve done for you. On the contrary, I’m grateful for the chance to sacrifice so much. Even though I know the person in your heart isn’t me, I still wish to be with you. No matter how unfairly you’ve treated me and how deeply I’ve loved you, my affection has never faded. You might think I’m naive, foolish, and silly, but do you realize that’s how I express my love? I can overlook everything because I love you. What matters is that you’re by my side, and I dream of building a future together. I don’t care what happened in the past, but now I want to know your true feelings. What’s in your heart? Can you honestly tell me?

Stop lying to deceive me as you did before. It serves you no good and only harms my sincere affection for you. You’ve hurt me once; are you going to hurt me a second time? If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t have the heart for it either. I love you so deeply; doesn’t your heart feel anything? I’d sacrifice everything for you. My father raised me in hopes I would live comfortably and honor him, but for the sake of marrying you, I abandoned that. I gave up an ideal match he chose for me, compatible in every way, because my eyes only see you. As long as I’m with you, everything else doesn’t matter; I can ignore it all!

Reflect on whether your heart really feels nothing for me. Don’t you know how much I love you? No one has a heart of stone, and you’re not an iceberg. Your feelings should be swayed by my actions. Haven’t you considered being truly with me, staying by my side steadily for life? If you say no, I won’t believe it. Your every glance can’t deceive me, nor can your every movement. I understand every word you say. Yet, for years, I said nothing because I chose to keep a way out for myself.

Don’t question if it’s worth it. In all these years, I’ve never regretted being with you, nor sacrificing so much for you, even abandoning my family. I’m content simply to have you, though I’ve never had your heart. At least I got you, and I’m satisfied. I’m not greedy; just having you is enough. But human greed inflates slowly; after getting you, I assumed I’d have your heart, yet today I realize your heart’s never been with me. I feel disappointed. I wish I could be in your heart, but I pale in comparison to her. Your deep-rooted love for her renders me just a barrier, easily removed because you desire to be by her side, regardless of how she might treat you. Isn’t that true?”

Xia Jing nodded, sighed, and said to her husband, ”You’re right. When I’m with him, even if sometimes I cry, those tears are ones of happiness. I was engulfed by this joy. Being with him makes me happy, yet I never thought he would leave me one day. That pain is one I wish never to experience again in this life. For years, I’ve missed him, never forgetting him, despite the distance. It’s unfair to you; you’ve given me so much, yet I can’t reciprocate the love you desire.

Some decisions aren’t mine alone. Every choice a person makes comes with consequences. I’ve sacrificed plenty for him, disregarding my own life. You’ve done the same for me, and I’ve seen it all!

But now, you know my thoughts and understand that my heart doesn’t love you. So, I ask, do you still think your sacrifices were worth it? Am I worth it? Do you truly harbor no regrets over this? You’ve given so much, yet I’ve left you wounded time and again. Do you genuinely believe it’s worthwhile to remain with me? Am I worth giving up all your riches for?”

”There isn’t really a matter of worthiness in this world, nor willingness. If everything is measured by worth, then what meaning does this world hold? If a relationship is solely based on worth, do you think we could be happy together? If everyone considers only whether their actions are worthwhile, without reflecting on their propriety, what would become of us?

I’ve said it before; I’ve never regretted anything I’ve done for you. Please don’t ask me questions of worthiness. Such matters can’t be measured by value or willingness. Your place in my heart is immeasurable, just as he occupies your whole heart. You understand that feeling. No matter your future decisions, I’ll never forsake you. Even if you remain in my life as a void or a shell, I’m willing, gladly sacrificing everything for you!”

”You’re truly foolish, offering so much for a woman who’s not worth it. I’ve never seen anyone as foolish as you. Perhaps you’re right, or this might be your greatest pain in life. I can only say, you’re too foolish, beyond words!”

Life is indeed this simple; what matters is not fearing the future!
