My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2256: Chapter 2089: Not Worth It Anymore

Love is bitter, yet sweet. The pain you’ve inflicted, no one can soothe.

Ran Zhihan kept whispering in Zhang Yichen’s ear, hoping she could summon her most beloved man back. She didn’t want the man she loved for so many years to remain asleep forever. She couldn’t bear to see such a thing happen to herself. If she truly had to face such a situation, she would rather be the one lying in the hospital bed than Zhang Yichen. Nothing is more important to Ran Zhihan than Zhang Yichen!

It’s unclear whether Zhang Yichen heard the words Ran Zhihan spoke to him, but in his dream, there was an image of Ran Zhihan talking to him.

In the dream...

”Yichen, why are you still unwilling to wake up? Is it really because the harm I caused you is too great? Seeing you lie in the hospital bed unconscious, do you know how much my heart aches? If you truly love me, why won’t you wake up to look at me? If you truly love me, how can you bear to see me cry out of sorrow because of you?” Ran Zhihan spoke to Zhang Yichen in the dream.

”Zhihan, let me explain, it’s not like that. I want to open my eyes to see you, I want to open my eyes to see the woman I cherish most, and whether she’s taking care of me by my side. But my eyes feel so heavy, I simply can’t open them. Don’t blame me; it’s not that I don’t want to see you, I’m just powerless, darling!”

”Don’t tell me things like ’powerless’. If you truly want to open your eyes to see me, then you must find a way to open them. I’ve said so many heartfelt words beside your bed, yet you haven’t opened your eyes to look at me even once. It proves that your heart truly doesn’t love me. If you don’t love me, why do you insist on keeping me by your side forcibly? Do you know how much I love you? I love you to the bone, and for you, I can risk my life, but you won’t open your eyes to see me. How dare you say you love me? Is this your way of loving me? If you truly love me, then open your eyes right away to see me, see if I’m always by your side accompanying you, see if this woman who once hurt you is beside you...”

”Didn’t I just say? It’s not that I don’t want to see you; my eyes just can’t open. As soon as I try, it feels like a mountain is pressing on my eyelids. No matter how much effort I exert, I can’t open my eyes. I want to open my eyes to see you, and I want to reach out to touch you. Don’t you know how important your place is in my heart? For you, I can also risk my life. But why do you treat me like this? I beg you to stay by my side, I beg you. I want you for a lifetime, but you cruelly want to abandon me, leaving alone. If it weren’t for you, how else would I end up lying on this hospital bed? Looking at me now, shouldn’t you be happy? Because now, you can leave freely, no one will force you to stay by my side. No one will force you to do anything. Isn’t this supposed to be a cause for joy for you? Why do you still come back to me? Do you want to come back and hurt me again?”

”Don’t say that. I never intended to hurt you. In my heart, you mean more than anyone else. That day you begged me to stay by your side, but I heartlessly refused—not because of anything else, but because I was afraid of the high society people judging you. I don’t want my status as the daughter of a civilian to dim your future. Even though I have now returned after studying abroad, I still can’t enter high society. I don’t understand the life experience of high society people. During those years of studying in the United States, I discovered that many high-society children and those from civilian families are incompatible. Everything has a kind of gap, and this gap always brings about numerous comments about us. You, too, should understand in your heart, it’s not that I don’t love you; I just didn’t know how to continue accompanying you. Every moment with you was truly joyful, a smile from the heart, a smile seldom used, yet when with you, I smiled almost every day. My heart was sunny because just seeing you, I felt like a prince was protecting me. Just seeing you beside me gives me a sense of security. Even a glance from you made my heart leap with joy. Yet many times, I had to make a cruel decision. If I didn’t do that, the harm wouldn’t be just to you and me but to more. Perhaps you felt that the decision I made then was hard to accept. But you must admit, when I made that decision, my heart hurt so much—do you know? I wished to hug you and cry, let you beg me: don’t leave me. But I forcibly suppressed my inner reluctance and resolutely pushed you away from me. I know you still hate me, but I hope you can consider from my perspective. If it were you, you would make the same decision because you are just as kind as I am, just as unwilling to let the person you love suffer even a bit of harm. There are many things, I don’t know how to explain to you, but I hope you can give me more trust. Believe me, I truly love you; my love for you has never changed.”

”Is everything you said true? Do you really love me in your heart all along? But I fear one day you’ll fall in love with someone else and choose to break up with me. Such pain is heavy for me and is heart-wrenching. At times, I’m just like this, my eyes can’t tolerate any sand. I just don’t want the person I love to betray me. Don’t you know? All I need is my beloved can be by my side, that’s enough. I don’t desire big sacrifices or contributions; I only hope he will always consider me the one he loves most and stays by my side. My demands aren’t many nor greedy. My wish is simple—just to walk hand in hand with the one I love until we grow old. I don’t care whether I have a son or daughter in this life, that doesn’t matter to me. All I want is for my beloved woman to accompany me for life, to see her every moment without any harsh words from her due to anything. Rest assured, I will wake up, but now is not yet the time to wake. When the day comes when I can, I certainly will. I hope at that time, the first person I see upon opening my eyes is you, not anyone else. If when I open my eyes, I see you first, then I hope you’ll stay by my side forever and never say things about separating again...”

Knowing it’s a wrong love, yet it still doesn’t bring results.
