My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1649: Chapter 1443: Greed

”Xiao Wei, whether brother-in-law truly loves sister or not is something we can’t ask or control, after all, it’s a matter between them as a couple. As outsiders, what we can do is to protect our own family from getting hurt. If because of us, our family keeps getting hurt and in pain again and again, what are we really trying to achieve by treating them this way?

Some things don’t need to be complicated. If our interference makes everything too complicated, do you think that would be a good thing for us? Or on the other hand, would it be a joy and happiness for them?

You know, there are things we shouldn’t interfere with.

Because maybe that thing wasn’t that painful initially, but in the end, our involvement could make them sad and unhappy. By doing this, we are not helping them, but hurting them. We all hope our loved ones can live happily and joyfully, which is the most important thing for us. We shouldn’t let our loved ones suffer and be in pain for our own selfish reasons!

Xiao Wei, sometimes even I can’t figure out who loves whom more. Maybe the life they want isn’t like this, but the life I want is very simple. I don’t want my life to be so complicated and with so much pain.

You’ve seen with your own eyes how sister lives her life. If our lives are supposed to be like hers, then why do we choose this outcome?”

”No matter what sister is thinking, and no matter how many hurdles and whether happiness lies in her future, what I want is for her to be happy now. If she can’t even have happiness and joy now, how can she continue to live happily?

You know what kind of person brother-in-law is, right? Even if he truly loves sister, can he really go against his elderly father time and time again for his wife, go against his family again and again? Can he still easily abandon his entire family’s interests like before? I dare say he absolutely won’t now. He knows what he wants now, and no matter what, he won’t abandon his father, abandon his son, abandon the whole family for his wife.

If once again he abandons his entire family for his wife, abandons his father, how would it make Old Master Zhang feel deep down? How could he ever forgive his son? It wasn’t easy for them to come back home this time. They’ve already humbled themselves and pleaded with them, but if really because of our mistake, they leave that house for good, wouldn’t all they’ve done be in vain?

Anyone in such a situation wouldn’t be satisfied. No one would be willing for their efforts to go to waste without any return.”

Xiao Wei felt that no matter what, he should call his brother-in-law to ask honestly about how his sister is doing now. But it’s true, just like his wife said, as a younger brother, he shouldn’t interfere in some matters, for it would only put his sister in a difficult position, torn between her brother, her family, and her husband. Wouldn’t that make her feel besieged?

But if he doesn’t ask, it proves he is indifferent to her life, wouldn’t that make her feel worse inside? As a younger brother, how can he balance it? Must he really be the bad guy, taking all the blame and letting everyone attack him, bearing all the rumors and pressure, for them to have the best outcome?

He really doesn’t want to endure once more all the pain he’d experienced before. Yet, no matter what, he can’t just stay put and do nothing. Why is what he wants so hard to get? Why does the world keep opposing him? Why does what he wants always end up slipping through his fingers, and why does fate keep pushing him to the brink, forcing him to go against the current; wouldn’t he be punished by the heavens? All he wants is family happiness and well-being, yet the result he gets again and again is disappointment?

”Xiao Wei, I don’t care what those people around you think, it doesn’t matter what your state of mind is, some things I must make clear to you: everyone has a different attitude when dealing with matters, and the result will be different too. Everything has been predetermined with no room for change; no one can alter the conclusion set by the heavens!

There’s no point in calling Zhang Zhentian to ask if he loves your sister; such questioning only stirs up trouble and might make your brother-in-law think your sister has said something to you. Then, their relationship could be strained, and you would indeed become the bad guy.

Focus on doing what we should do, protecting those we want to protect, and stop chasing after futile dreams that aren’t yours. No matter how naive or perfect you think they are, others will always blame you for any discord in their families, for any breakdown.

Everyone is selfish. When it comes to their own issues, they won’t care about their relatives. In the end, what does kinship mean? Haven’t repeated instances shown that everything you believed so steadfastly in actually means nothing? Even if you value it greatly, does it truly foster gratitude deep in their hearts?

If they don’t repay your kindness with hostility, that’s already good enough. Why wish for mutual enjoyment of happiness and joy together with them?

Perhaps you think my words are excessive, perhaps you think what I’m saying sounds bad and you don’t want to hear it, but it’s unavoidable. Some things I must make clear, or it’ll be you who suffers in the end!”

One should wholeheartedly walk their own path.
