My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1634: Chapter 1428: Longing

In a person’s lifetime, there are many ways to live. Whether one is happy or not depends on their life’s choices, and sometimes their happiness can bring joy to another, while a blissful life can also lead to collapse.

Another week has passed, marking the third week since Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing’s car accident. They are both waiting for their family to wake up, but each time they face nothing but disappointment.

Xiao Wei has been here waiting for an entire week, hoping for his sister and brother-in-law to regain consciousness. But why is fate playing a joke on them? The more anxious the family becomes in waiting, the less the patients inside show any sign of response. Even the medical staff find it hard to bear, hardly believing that such devoted family members could wait so many days without leaving. Yet, fate seems unfair to them.

During this time, rumors spread that Old Master Zhang, Zhu Jun, experienced a change of heart, as his son was said to have once again caused his hospitalization. But who truly understands that the real reason for his severe condition was not anger at his son, but the heartache from his son’s own hospitalization, which led to his own unconsciousness.

Each day when Old Master Zhang wakes from his dreams, he asks his grandson a single question: have his son and daughter-in-law awakened? He wants to know how his son and daughter-in-law are doing, but each time his grandson and the medical staff alike give him a negative answer, wearing down his resolve slowly but surely.

Everyone feels this situation shouldn’t continue this way. They wonder why, even after the patients have passed the life-threatening period, they still cannot awaken. Despite having removed all breathing support, the two lie there as if dead, resting peacefully, even though all life signs appear normal and there is no way for them to open their eyes.

Li Jiayuan has been waiting for so long, an entire week has passed without her husband returning home. She is starting to worry, growing increasingly uneasy, feeling in her heart that things are not that simple.

Even when her husband went on business trips before, he never stayed away this long, let alone this time when he is supposed to return to China. Why is there no news despite having been back in China for so many days? Although he calls her every night, her inner anxiety continues to grow.

She decides to return to the homeland and see for herself. She wants to get to the bottom of what has happened that has kept her husband away for an entire week, causing him to only hastily call her and then hang up. What kind of urgency is this?

At this moment, Lei Kai enters and sees that his mother has packed all her luggage, ready to leave. He doesn’t know what his mother is up to, so he quickly asks, ”Mom, what are you doing? Why so many bags? Are you going on a trip or heading back to China?”

Li Jiayuan is bewildered; she hadn’t mentioned her destination, so why does her son think she is going back to China? Could it be that her son knows something?

”Kai’er, tell me, do you know why your dad went back to China, and why none of you are willing to tell me? Be honest, do you know what’s really going on?”

”Mom, you didn’t know? Brother Yichen’s parents were in a very serious car accident several weeks ago. They were planning an overseas trip when the crash happened, and they’ve been in a coma ever since. Dad probably went back because of this, as she is his sister!”

Only after hearing her son’s words did Li Jiayuan snap back to reality. So, this is the reason behind everything. No wonder her husband chose to return home; such a major incident, and he hadn’t said a word to her, perhaps to spare her from worry.

”Why do you all know about this, but none of you told me, keeping me in the dark for what? You say it’s to save me from worry, but at least tell me, it’s the minimum respect, don’t you understand?

I’m a part of this family. Over the years, I’ve never interfered with any of your decisions, but a matter like this, you should have mentioned to me. No matter what, we are good friends, and since we are sisters, I must visit. It’s the basic way to act as a human being!

Why do you and Dad always keep things from me? Do I seem unreasonable to you? Why do you not consider my feelings as your mother and his wife? Have you thought about how I would feel knowing the truth?”

Lei Kai never expected such a huge reaction from his mother. He had considered earlier whether to inform her about the matter, yet he didn’t know how to bring it up.

He wasn’t certain how his mother would react if he told her everything; she might rush back to China to bring his father back. He was partly aware of the older generation’s loves and hates but didn’t expect things to change so greatly.

”Mom, we didn’t tell you to spare you, we know you’re not petty, but some things we really didn’t know how to say. I’ve been debating whether to tell you in advance to save you from feeling hurt when you finally learn the truth and think we were hiding it all from you!

But we decided, so as not to worry you and have you running back and forth, that we would keep it from you as long as possible!

It’s just that we didn’t expect...”

”You didn’t expect that I would find something amiss so quickly, that I would figure out the truth so soon, right? You make decisions without consulting me at all, at least respect my opinion. Even if you don’t want me to go, communicate with me, I might understand.

But repeatedly ignoring my wishes, are you treating me as family? Do you not realize how awkward this could be for me? What would others say if they knew?

The person I was before is gone. I’ll never repeat the past, every step forward is my choice, no matter how thorny the path, I’ll keep moving forward with determination.
