My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1626: Chapter 1420: Courage

”Dad, I don’t want to focus on who’s right or wrong in this situation now. I feel that discussing this topic among us holds no real meaning. As you said, we are already a family, and we have returned to this household. Can’t we just put aside our former grudges and live well together?

I know what I did in the past really hurt you, and I’m truly sorry for that. But I have already been punished. I’ve let go of all my pride and dignity to come here and ask you to take me back. Isn’t that sincere enough?

In your eyes, what exactly do I need to do to show sincerity? Do you think I should kneel at the door for three days and nights, slowly begging for your forgiveness, just so you believe in my sincerity?

You are my father. I believe, seeing your son suffer outside all these years, you haven’t felt good about it deep down. But for the sake of your pride, you had to hold onto these things because you believe some things can’t just be forgotten casually!

No matter what, I am still your son. The conflict between us can never change that fact. Even if time reversed, we would still be in the same father-son relationship. This is bound by blood, which can’t be severed. My mom gave life to me through her hardships, and you raised me painstakingly, giving me a life without worries. I am really grateful. But there are some things I can’t accomplish just because I want to.

I also hope sometimes you could consider things from my perspective, to understand my difficulties. Living is not easy for me. Everything I’ve done is only in hopes that everyone can live happily. Why does no one understand my good intentions, thinking everything I do is just to hurt you?

Is it because I did something that hurt you before, so anything I do now is seen as harmful in your eyes? Why do you doubt me so much? Don’t we have even the basic trust between us? You are my father, and I am your biological son. Why does our relationship have to reach this point?”

Old Master Zhang didn’t know what to say at this moment.

He found out that his son could be so sharp, questioning why, when he was forced to leave the family, he chose to say nothing. Did that make him appear so heartless as a father, that as long as his son bowed his head and spoke a few kind words, pleading not to be sent away, he wouldn’t have forced him out, considering he is part of the Zhang Family?

”I don’t want any disputes with you about these other matters right now. I feel bringing them up doesn’t benefit us at all. I only wish for peace at home. You’re my son, there’s no denying it. I know I caused you great harm back then, but it was a significant blow to you. However, you chose that path. Do you regret it now and blame me, as your father, for it?

Honestly, even if you want to blame me now, saying I forced you out of this house, leaving you with no way to return for life, I can tell you clearly, it makes no difference to me. Because in your heart, you’ve already regarded me as a stranger. You claim you want to make amends to everyone in this family, yet no matter what you do, in my heart, the choice you made back then can’t be placed upon me. I didn’t force you to leave, nor did I hold a knife to your throat, demanding you to do so!

Can you not take a good look at yourself to understand why you did what you did? It was your mistake. Why blame others? Should we all allow you to pass blame over and over, only to hurt us again?

Child, I’m a father. I’m your biological father. I would never force my child. Yet, what you say today deeply hurts me. How could you doubt the sincere love I hold for you as a father?”

”Dad, you know, that’s not what I meant. I said those things hoping for fairness. If you’ve never thought of excluding me, then please, tell me openly. Why did you turn me away when I came back? Was it out of hatred for your own reasons, or was it because of your son’s actions?”

Old Master Zhang was surprised, realizing a long-unspoken issue had to be addressed.

”Since you insist on knowing, it was not only because of your son but also for my reasons, I admit I didn’t let you return. I didn’t want to see you because you disregarded me as a father when you left, without caring about the pain it might cause. You pursued your own happiness, forgetting there’s an elderly father whom you also have to consider.

Are you surprised at what I’m saying now? But it’s true. I never thought we’d come to this point or that I’d easily forgive you to return home. Had it been me, I’d have kept you away, assuming you despise me. You probably hate me, right?

If you despise me so much, why pretend to love and care about me, claiming to want to be by my side? Is it that you’re waiting for me to pass away so you can regain control?”
