My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1639: Chapter 1433: Don’t Want To

I live alone, and I don’t want to tell anyone about the sorrow deep in my heart.

Perhaps being inseparable from cigarettes and alcohol is who I am now.

Zhang Yichen felt that today he should really express his gratitude to his son. If it weren’t for his son understanding his look and standing up to speak for him as a father, he might not have been able to let his parents come home so easily today. Even though they were prepared to return this time, seeing his grandfather’s attitude still made him a bit anxious. He knew his grandfather didn’t mean any harm. He also knew the reason behind his grandfather’s actions, but he just couldn’t arrive at the solution.

Zhang Ni was not only helping his own father, but also helping himself, and simultaneously giving Old Master Zhang a way out. He knew Old Master Zhang always put on an air of moral superiority. He understood that his great-grandfather couldn’t let go of his own pride, that his pride mattered the most to him. So, he was compelled to help his great-grandfather, who had been so good to him. How could he ever live with himself if he didn’t offer him an exit?

”Nai’er, today Daddy is really grateful to you. Thank you for standing up in time to speak for Daddy. If you hadn’t, your grandparents wouldn’t have been able to return home so easily. You know your great-grandfather is one who saves face no matter what. He would rather pout alone than speak openly in front of everyone. She knows sometimes she places too much importance on pride. But today, I am really grateful. If it weren’t for you, how could he have let himself down so easily?”

These years of training you have undergone were not in vain; although you have gone through much suffering, experiencing devil-like training and tangling with death every day. But do you know? Dad is truly proud to have a son like you. I have never imagined that my son would turn out so outstanding. I certainly didn’t expect that after all the harm I’ve gone through, my son would have to endure it too, yet you persevered. You’re simply making your father look at you with new respect. This is the kind of son I have, and the kind of son who can take over my corporation someday!”

Zhang Ni didn’t understand why hearing his father say such things didn’t bring joy deep inside. Perhaps it’s because he simply doesn’t want to inherit his father’s company. He only wishes to live a peaceful life and has never thought about competing with others for anything. Because he knows no matter how much he gains or to what extent he ultimately competes, it will never truly belong to him. What meaning does it have even if it’s in his grasp?

”Dad, to be honest, I don’t care about whether I can smoothly take over your company, because I don’t care about money. I just hope my family can live together in peace and unity, and that’s enough. You also understand, as a child, I equally long for my grandparents’ love. I also envy other kids who have complete families. You know better than anyone else the kind of environment I’ve grown up under.

But over the years, I never complain because I know no amount of complaining solves anything. It’s futile, and constant complaining will only narrow one’s mindset. Why would I want to become such a person? I just want my family to stay safe by my side. I just hope my grandparents can say good morning to me every day. Seeing them every day is enough for me. I won’t be like others who endlessly crave things that shouldn’t belong to them in the first place.

Besides, Dad, you’ve built such a huge enterprise through your efforts alone. You reached the pinnacle of your life through your own hard work. I’m your son, so why can’t I? As the saying goes, the blue surpasses the blue. If I can only ever live under your shadow, what good does that growth do me? If you protect me too late in life to an extent where I never get a scratch, eventually, when I step into society, I would only face cold sneers and plans by others, and at that time I might be counting money for others somewhere else. Do you think that’s your son?

Don’t you think your son should be a smart person, someone who plans everything for their journey? If I always have to stand behind you, then I might as well never put in any effort from the start and just stand behind you, mix and wait for death. Since I’ve chosen this path, then one day I will surpass you. I will reach your heights through my own efforts. You are now at the top of the world, your career has reached great heights, and maybe one day I might surpass you and be at a height where even you have to look up. That moment, I am truly your son, that moment I truly deserve to be someone from the Zhang Family!”

Zhang Yichen had never imagined his son could say such words, nor that his son could possess such determination. As a father, hearing his child say such words is touching, yet also worrying. Who wouldn’t wish their child could live through life peacefully? Who wouldn’t hope their child could pass their most wonderful years without having to fight and struggle? Is that kind of life really happy? Is it joyful? Not necessarily.

”Child, you are a good son to your father. Since you’ve made such a decision, I have no right to interfere with you no matter what. You’re gradually growing up, gaining independence, and have your own rights to control your life. As your parents, all we can do is respect and support you. No matter what you encounter, you must tell me, your father. I’ll do my utmost to help you. Don’t bury grievances in your heart alone. Your standing by me today is very much appreciated by your father!”

Father and son exchanged a knowing smile. They both understood what each other needed the most. Living beyond each other’s way, they were slowly and happily living the life the family always wanted. Now that the family members who wandered outside have returned, it was time for a true family reunion.
