My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1604: Chapter 1398: Illness

Zhang Yichen has been very busy recently, with no time at all to pay attention to the state of his wife. Because of this, no one realized his phone, and he slowly became reclusive. He began to bury everything deep in his heart, not communicating with anyone, spending his days alone in his room, not going out.

Zhang Ni noticed today that his mother was not quite herself. No matter what he said, his mother had no reaction at all, which he found strange. In the past, his mother would never have acted like this. Even when he made mistakes, she would smile and tell him he was wrong. But today, her behavior was so abnormal. What could have caused her to become like this?

He decided to find Zhang Yichen. He wanted to ask his father what was going on and why his mother had become this way. If this really had something to do with his father, then he definitely wouldn’t let it go. Although he had much attachment to his mother, seeing her become like this affected him deeply as her son. He couldn’t ignore it as if nothing had happened. All he wanted was for his mother to live happily, but now she had become reclusive, almost like she was depressed.

Zhang Ni was frightened by this bold thought. If his mother was depressed, what kind of event could have caused it? Her personality used to be cheerful, lively, and bright. If she truly was depressed now, it must be due to some severe blow or continuous neglect from his father.

When Zhang Yichen saw Zhang Ni, he thought his son was here for some reason related to him, not expecting him to come confronting him.

”Nai’er, what brings you here?”

”Dad, I’m not going to say much. I just want to ask if you know what happened to Mom? Or what did you say to her to make her this way? Today, when I got home, she was completely different from before. Now, no matter what I say to her, she doesn’t respond at all, as if she’s a puppet, motionless. I really doubt she suffered some severe blow to become like this. Did you never care about her at home? Were you so busy with your own work that you forgot your wife also needed attention?”

”I’ve been very busy these days and simply didn’t have time to look after your mom. Hasn’t she always been fine by herself? How could this suddenly happen?”

Why didn’t you take your mom to the hospital? What good do you think comes from dragging it out like this? We should quickly take her to the hospital for a check-up. No matter the outcome, we must confirm it through examination.”

Zhang Ni was infuriated. He had worked hard to come home to check on his mother, only to encounter this situation. Seeing his mother like this, how could his heart not be affected? Even if he didn’t want to endure others’ cold stares upon returning home, he’s still part of this family. Now that his mother is like this, and no one cares about her, he feels utterly alone.

He feels that his father didn’t fulfill the responsibilities of a husband this time. His wife has become this way, yet he has no idea what’s going on.

”Dad, I think we need to have a serious talk. You shouldn’t neglect my mom like this, no matter the reason. No matter what you’re dealing with, consider her feelings. She’s right beside you; how can she not feel hurt? She’s not a Saint; she needs the care and love of her family. You’re so busy, but it shouldn’t lead her to become like this, and you still don’t know. You’ve never truly cared about her. Do you think it’s my fault now because I didn’t take her to the hospital in time? If I hadn’t come back, how much longer would this continue? Who would know?”

Zhang Yichen was left speechless by his son’s words. It was his fault after all. If he’d paid attention to his wife’s condition earlier, would it not have reached this point? If he’d taken her to the hospital earlier, perhaps it wouldn’t be this serious now. How can he blame his child for any of this? This time, if they don’t act, it’ll be too late.

”Son, let’s not argue about who’s right or wrong right now. We should take your mom to the hospital for a thorough check-up to see what’s actually happening. If she’s sick, she should be treated as soon as possible. Continuing like this won’t do her any good. You understand this better than anyone. I know you somewhat blame me for not fulfilling my duties as a husband. It’s my neglect that led to her current state. I was oblivious, too. Your resentment is justified, but for now, let’s focus on acting quickly to take her to the hospital. As family, that’s all we can do. Don’t worry; no matter what happens in the future, I’ll always put her first and not center everything around myself.”

”I don’t care what you prioritize. What matters to me is what you did to Mom to make her like this. I’m sure the doctor will soon say she’s depressed. It’s obvious. She’s nearly reclusive now, unwilling to share her feelings with anyone. She’s like a marionette, not moving. Her inner world is completely closed off. Maybe that’s what you all wanted all along? Weren’t you already tired of her? When you’ve repeatedly done things without considering how much pain it caused my mom deep down?”
