My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1631: Chapter 1425: Moved by Myself

Old Master Zhang knew that every word his grandson said was correct. After all, he’s been through it all himself and has experienced everything firsthand. He understood what actions were truly in his child’s best interest and which should or shouldn’t be done. His involvement now was only to prevent the relationship between father and son from deteriorating further. However, he was touched by his grandson’s reasoning. Indeed, wouldn’t it be best if one’s child would obey unconditionally? If you want a person not to be oppressed by others, the only way is to pressure him continuously, letting him grow stronger and make everyone fear him, so he can peacefully get through life. But sometimes being too strict with your child isn’t good either, as it might make the child feel controlled on purpose, and rebellion might develop, eroding the trust he once had. This might be the way of interaction between father and son, but it’s a pity it took him so long to understand. It seems his grandson is indeed much more excellent than him; he’s already grasped these truths at such a young age, which is truly remarkable.

”Yichen, regardless of what decisions you make, Grandfather will definitely support you silently from the sidelines because I watched you grow up. I know that any decisions you make, unless forced, are never made lightly. Still, I hope you understand one principle: not all things can be done just because you wish to do them. Many things can leave a lifelong regret due to one small mistake. But I want you to understand, Grandfather’s words today have no other intent but to prevent a poor or awkward relationship between you and your father. So, I hope you won’t dislike Grandfather. If you feel Grandfather is meddling too much, then I will stop involving myself in your affairs. No matter what becomes of your relationship in the future, I will not interfere. What do you think?” Old Master Zhang indirectly gave his grandson a choice. If he wanted him to continue to meddle in their affairs, he would, but if he chose otherwise, he would withdraw, leaving them to handle their matters alone. It truly boiled down to a choice; select correctly and all would be well, choose poorly and it might torment you for the rest of your life.

Zhang Yichen understood why his grandfather said what he did and knew the implications of making a wrong choice. He was unsure what to do. Sometimes he found his grandfather quite annoying; many things didn’t need his grandfather’s interference, yet he would step in, making things uncomfortable for him. However, when he genuinely needed his grandfather, he wouldn’t step in, making it tough for him. When he needed help, no one would assist, but when he didn’t need help, everyone wanted to get involved; it’s a big trouble. But what can he do? He can’t prevent his grandfather from intervening, that would hurt him deeply. It seemed he had to pretend and speak insincerely once again.

”Grandfather, if I said I could support every decision you make unconditionally, it wouldn’t be true, because I know myself enough to know that sometimes you are indeed annoying. When I need help the most, you’re not there, but when I don’t need it, you come. It puts me in an awkward position. But regardless, I believe our relationship should remain harmonious. So, Grandfather, don’t worry about anything; I only hope that you can help when I need it most. Of course, I’m not saying it’s wrong for you to care, just that some matters shouldn’t be interfered in. Like today, if you plead again and I heed your every word, my son might see me as a coward, someone who can’t stand firm in front of his grandfather. In the future, if he has issues, he’ll go straight to you instead of talking to us. He would feel fearless knowing you have his back and wouldn’t mind how much trouble he causes because he believes grandfather is there and I wouldn’t dare to punish him. Thus, I can’t agree to let him go easily. That would encourage a risky mindset, making him believe there’s always someone to save him. But is that truly the case in life? When mistakes are made in society, is there always someone to fix them? His thoughts are naive, and it scares me. I don’t understand why he holds such notions when they shouldn’t exist. Grandfather, you surely understand better than I how to educate a child properly. It’s thanks to your education that I’ve become who I am today. But now, with my son, I hope to educate him well myself, with just enough support from you. I believe I can raise him to be a genius, instead of him feeling abandoned like I did with my parents, carrying a wound in my heart. For my son, his grandparents’ absence is similarly painful. Yet, he chooses not to speak because he doesn’t know how or where to begin.”

Old Master Zhang finally realized why his grandson didn’t want him to step in and help with his son’s upbringing. He just wanted to ease the burden without openly saying so. Was he really being too meddlesome, poking into others’ affairs unnecessarily?
