My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1609: Chapter 1403: The Slap Back Then

Zhang Zhentian discovered that no matter how he spoke to his wife, he couldn’t get through to her. He knew that trying to educate his wife was no longer effective. He needed to come up with another way to persuade her to agree to let their son be with this girl. He himself couldn’t bear to separate the two of them. He believed that people who love each other should be together to lead a happy life. Seeking parental approval and choosing a lifelong partner without love would not lead to happiness.

Old Master Zhang was no longer willing to meddle in this matter. He turned and went into the hospital room to see the granddaughter-in-law he had already accepted in his heart. He saw Ran Zhihan lying in bed, her once adorable little face had completely lost its vitality. She was deathly pale, looking lifeless, like a withered flower, completely devoid of her former brilliance. He knew that today’s events were all caused by his family, and he felt deeply guilty in his heart. He had never felt he owed anyone anything before, but today, he realized he owed this girl too much. If he could have been a bit stronger, perhaps his son and daughter-in-law wouldn’t have hurt her, and today’s scene might never have happened. Would she still be lying there, unable to move, and still in a coma?

Xia Jing, Zhang Zhentian, and Zhang Yichen started their debate when they saw Old Master Zhang enter the hospital room.

”Zhang Zhentian, maybe in your heart, you think it was my mistake. But have you forgotten? When I did this, you were involved too. You even supported me. You said you would unconditionally support me no matter what. How could you abandon me like this now, just because your son has acknowledged you? Do you really hit someone when they’re down like this? Do you know how much I despise you for doing this? You took part, so why should I bear the consequences alone? Why can’t you boldly admit your involvement? Do you want me to take all the blame? Don’t you see, this makes me see you as nothing but a coward, incapable of even the basic ability to protect your wife? You say you misjudged me, but didn’t I misjudge you as well? I always thought you were a responsible person, but now it seems you’re not. In fact, the glorious image I had of you has plummeted. I always thought you could give selflessly for me and tolerate me, but now I realize, all of this was my mistake. No, it was my misconception. It was all because I believed in you too much, which led to this situation. If when I left the Zhang Family, you hadn’t told me those words, if you hadn’t asked me to target her, I wouldn’t have ended up here today. Now your son is here too. Are you still unwilling to admit it?”

Upon hearing his mother’s words, Zhang Yichen realized that this situation wasn’t as simple as he had imagined. His father was indeed involved. It was hard for him to accept why his father would act like a loving parent in front of him and yet play the role of a villain behind his back. Did his father not find it exhausting? Balancing two roles was indeed exhausting; he had felt this before.

Zhang Zhentian knew that when Xia Jing said these words, his relationship with his son would also gradually grow estranged. He turned to look at his son, seeing Zhang Yichen staring wide-eyed. He never would have guessed his father was involved in this matter.

Zhang Zhentian wanted to explain, but found himself speechless. Could he really stand before his son and say something that went against his conscience, claiming he wasn’t involved? But who would believe such words? Everyone knew that even if Xia Jing acted alone, Zhang Zhentian must have been involved. If he denied it, would his status in Zhang Zhentian’s heart fall even further?

Before Zhang Zhentian could speak up, Zhang Yichen spoke to him again, ”My dear father, please tell me what’s really going on? I hope you can tell me the truth about this matter. Did you partake in it or not? Don’t let me catch you lying, as the outcome would be even more heartbreaking. If you wish to prevent any further complications, please tell me honestly!”

Zhang Zhentian knew there was no escaping this time. He opened his mouth, unsure where to start, but finally admitted his mistake.

”Son, I’m sorry, this was my mistake. I admit I was involved, but I didn’t expect it to turn out like this. Can you forgive me? You must believe that I have always loved you in my heart and considered you the most cherished son. Can you understand my good intentions?”

Hearing it from others was one thing, but hearing it from the person involved was another. When he heard his father admitting his involvement, he nearly couldn’t stand, stumbling backward almost falling to the ground. His eyes wide open, never blinking, he couldn’t believe it. Moments ago, his father portrayed a loving figure, and now he exposed such an ugly side.

”Don’t call me son, I don’t have a father like you. Haven’t you realized what kind of person my girlfriend truly is? She’s so kind, she sees you as her own parents. But what about you? What do you see her as? If she’s with me in the future, she will be your daughter-in-law. Can’t you accept your daughter-in-law? Or do you think her presence will make you lose me entirely? You never understood what I truly wanted. I always thought if one day we were really together, if one day we were truly married, I wouldn’t care how you treated me before, nor the harm you caused because that moment would be enough for me. But today, you shattered all my fantasies. How can you be so heartless? Even if I can’t be with her in the future, she still has her parents, they will grieve her loss. Do you wish to see me disappear from this world too? Is this what you want to see?”

Slap...

A loud slap echoed. Zhang Zhentian looked at his hand raised in the air, then at his son’s face, half of which was reddened. He could not believe he had hit his son. He wanted to apologize, but would his son give him that chance?

”Don’t apologize. This slap has severed the bond between us as father and son. From today, we have no relationship. Also, pack your things immediately and move out of the Zhang Family, or I’ll never return home again. If you don’t want to break grandfather’s heart once more because of our relationship, please leave quietly without alarming the old man!”
