My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1623: Chapter 1417: Saint

Old Master Zhang heard his grandson say such touching words, and his heart was truly moved and comforted. This proved that all the love he had shown his grandson over the years had not been wasted. He had truly taught his grandson how to be a person, how to handle things, and this was his greatest pride in life. He never thought there would be a moment that would make him feel so gratified. Throughout his life, he had experienced a lot, faced many upheavals, and never had time to go through such things. Yet, it made his life so rich and colorful. Everything could change because of one person’s transformation, but he never imagined that his grandson would, through all these years, never forget his original intentions. He would always remember the oath he had taken, so no matter where he went, he would firmly remember his mission. He had not forgotten the things he desired most deeply, nor the promises he made to himself to become a successful person someday, which gave him great inner comfort.

”Child, you know you are the most filial child in the world. Over the years, you’ve done many things, and your heart knows it well. But you’ve never thought of giving up what you do, always keeping the promises you’ve made deep in your heart, valuing everything that matters to you. Do you know how happy and joyful your grandfather is to hear you say such words today? But your grandfather, perhaps, never had any way of reaching the peak. Your words made him feel proud because I raised such a perfect child like you.

Never compare yourself with others, because others may not necessarily be the way you want to grow into. Everyone has good and bad, blindly following others’ footsteps will only leave you aimless and confused about what to do. Everyone has their most genuine thoughts and should not change themselves for others. If you spend your life this way, then truly, you’ve wasted your entire lifetime. It’s really hard to live, but what use is it to live if not with full effort, growing repeatedly like this, only then you don’t live so hard and so emotionally exhausted.

You also believe, throughout this life, you have weathered many storms. You can’t forget the hardships and tears you’ve gone through. Every single step up to today was so hard-fought; how could you be willing to let others drag you down? You want to reach the pinnacle of your life. You want to live happily. You’re not someone idle and aimless. Since childhood, you knew you were someone dignified and vigorous, who would make every effort to reach your goals. Grandpa invested all his thoughts to nurture you for this reason and put you through rigorous training again and again.”

Old Master Zhang turned to Zhang Yichen after speaking and continued to Zhang Zhentian: ”You as parents are truly heartless. You haven’t been back to accompany your child for so many years. Do you know how hard it has been for them? Have you ever witnessed the sweat and tears they shed during tough training? Do you know how each scar appeared on their body, when blood wouldn’t stop flowing, they were still desperately holding in pain? They twisted their face in agony, but didn’t want anyone to see their painful expression, because they knew, there is no one in this world who can help them except the strength of their own heart.

They have shown me with their actions, maybe in this life they cannot live happily, but because they have put in all their effort to reach what they want, they do not regret it. This is their greatest achievement in this life. You have never experienced this feeling because you’ve never thought about risking everything for your family. In your eyes, you can give up everything for freedom, but not for family. You’ve been too selfish and self-centered, and I can’t even believe you are my biological son and daughter-in-law.

There are times I really want to tell you, if you have the slightest bit of filial piety, why not choose to come home to see me? If you feel even a tad bit of guilt, why choose to wander time and again instead of coming back to be with me? This is such an indelible pain for me. I am an old man, your father, and how can you bear to leave me here and take your child to wander alone outside? You’ve been staying outside for so long; are you really happy and content? Have you gained everything you wanted?

Although I knew long ago that you would inevitably regret it one day, I didn’t think that day would come so soon. You’ve never thought about where you went wrong in your actions, only continuously seeking others’ forgiveness. People don’t owe you anything. Why should they forgive you again and again? Experiencing your deeds, others will only see you as irredeemable, a hopelessly bad person...”

”Dad, I already know I’m wrong. Please stop saying these things to me. I know my biggest mistake was leaving my son to seek the freedom I thought I deserved outside.

It’s because of my actions that my tone is now so awkward, for no one has experienced my inner thoughts, and no one knows how painful it has been for me to be away these years. No one understands how much guilt I feel, the guilt that has clung to me for these many years. I have not forgotten even for a moment because my heart knows that once I forget this guilt, I will fall into the abyss of pain...”
