My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1613: Chapter 1407: Enumerating

Xiao Wei and the others still don’t know about their sister’s situation. He thinks he should be living a happy life now, but how could he have imagined that during this time, his sister would encounter so many mishaps, one after another, leading her to become completely disoriented, unable to discern right from wrong. Even eating has become her biggest challenge. If he knew, he would probably feel deeply pained in his heart, after all, she is the sister who has depended on him for so many years.

He has always wanted to return to his homeland to be with his sister, to see how she’s doing now, but he’s always been tied down by his wife. He can’t let her down, knowing her expectations for him.

In the past, he could live freely and do whatever he wanted, but now he can’t do that anymore because he has his own family and responsibilities to bear. To change himself for the family is what he needs to do; acting recklessly as before would only distance him from his loved ones. What he desires most is for his family to always be by his side, perhaps the most precious thing anyone starting a family hopes for.

”Now you come to tell me that it’s my fault mom is like this. Even if I am at fault, can’t I leave for a moment? I admit I was negligent with this matter, careless, and didn’t expect mom would change so suddenly. Isn’t this also a kind of pain for me? I never imagined there would come a day where I have to guard him in this way. If he were conscious, this would be a great pain for him, he’s never endured such suffering. Now he has to bear it all alone, but isn’t all this something we have all caused together?

You have your matters too, don’t you? I know you care about your career, about this family. Don’t I care about them as well? He is my biological mother. No matter when or where, I hope she is healthier than anyone else, I hope she is safe more than anyone else. But some things are beyond my control. Every action I take only brings torment upon myself repeatedly. Nobody cares about my thoughts. What am I doing all this for? I haven’t told your uncle about this; are you afraid he’ll come back and blame you?

If your sister knew, because of mom’s issues, that you’d choose to drive grandma out, do you think your uncle would agree? Would he continue to trust you?

Actually, more than anyone you know, you need your uncle’s trust because he holds great power. Even though he’s been out of the underworld for many years, he still has connections. His network is still strong. Time and again you fear offending him. You don’t dare to drive your mom out, considering him. Yet now, you want to push all the blame onto me. I’m not foolish enough to bear all the blame for you.

As for grandma, I think you should communicate with her properly. Regardless of their intentions for returning home, now that they have come back, they should stay peacefully. Don’t cause more trouble, as it only brings harm to everyone. Hurting everyone won’t result in regret or forgiveness. Everyone has their own life, and he should bear the heavy cost of his actions.

Even if I’m unsure if my mother’s current state is related to him, even if there’s no direct connection, there’s still an indirect one. If it weren’t for their return, how could they have ignored my mom? Over the years, hasn’t my mom treated you kindly? Don’t you know deep down how she trusted you? You’ve put my mom in an awkward position, making it impossible for her to get along with you, causing her to become more and more isolated.”

”Even if you say all these so-called problems are just on me, shouldn’t you also reflect on whether there’s truly no problem from your end? He is your mother; she’s only my wife. I have my duties from my job, my salary. I should care for her, understand her, stay by her side, not neglect her. But what about you? You are her son, the child she painstakingly gave birth to after ten months. As her child, you can’t even accompany her daily. How do you expect me to do it?

Do you not need to eat? Doesn’t your grandfather need to come back to this home to enjoy blessings? Don’t you think great-grandfather wishes for us all to have prosperous careers? Everyone’s expectations are different, just like my expectations of you. As long as you’re happy, I don’t mind if you achieve nothing, I’m still happy, still willing. I’m willing to give you all the wealth, let you live a life without worry. Would you accept it?

No need to say, you certainly wouldn’t accept it, because a life like that would be as empty as a puppet’s existence, being ridiculed as a failure. You wouldn’t want this life, let alone me, shouldering all kinds of pressures no less than you do. So why are you thinking of making me bear the pain I already once endured, still making me suffer that ridicule of being pointed at as useless, abandoned by parents?

Why can’t we each consider things from each other’s perspective? If you truly feel stuck, then we can take turns. When someone watches over your mother during their shift, under no circumstances can they leave, even if the sky were falling. If you can do this, I’ll accept your opinions without complaint. But surely I can’t be the only one watching while you handle your work. Would my company, with its thousands of employees, not need to eat? Should my company stop running? Would all my money then just fall into my lap like manna from heaven?”
