My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1638: Chapter 1432: Repeating the Same Mistake

When Xiao Wei arrived at the airport, Li Jiayuan and Lei Kai had just gotten off the plane, and he saw his husband coming to pick him up, feeling truly excited deep down inside.

Seeing his wife standing there with tears brimming in her excited eyes, Xiao Wei swallowed back all the words he wanted to say to her.

”Xiao Wei, how could you do this? How could you and your son tell Mr. Ma about this incident? Don’t you know Xia Jing and I are best friends now? If anything happened to her, how could I possibly be happy?

You men never seem to consider the feelings of your family, although you initially did think about my feelings and my physical health.

Yet I can’t help but feel upset still. Why is that? I’m your wife, your pillow companion for so many years, and you can hide such things from me. Tell me, what else do you keep from me?”

Xiao Wei didn’t expect Li Jiayuan to be even more difficult than his sister when she’s unreasonable; it really is hard to raise women and small children.

No matter what his wife said, he could only silently endure. He couldn’t argue back because he couldn’t bear for his wife to return so far away just out of fear that he’d shoulder all these burdens alone. He just wanted to share the load. But if he didn’t appreciate her efforts and started to complain, would he really be worthy of being a man?

”Jiayuan, I didn’t think it through. Please don’t be mad at me. I just want you to be at ease over there. This back-and-forth you’re doing is exhausting, and you know that. It’s not that I begrudge the car fare; I just don’t want your body to suffer from all this travel.

Alright, let’s stop talking and hurry to the hospital. I’m worried there might be sudden changes; it’s been so long and there’s been no sign of waking. I’m a bit worried. We should go and help keep watch. After all, there’s strength in numbers, so our nephew doesn’t have to bear all the pressure alone.”

Li Jiayuan felt Xiao Wei made a lot of sense and agreed to go to the hospital immediately because he thought no matter what, he must pay close attention to his good friend’s condition—they are family, after all.

Xiao Wei glanced at Lei Kai, who awkwardly rubbed his head.

He felt quite embarrassed that he couldn’t complete even a small task assigned by his father. What did his father think he was capable of doing?

”Let’s hurry back to the hospital. Stop glaring at Kai’er.

It’s not his fault. If I hadn’t discovered it in time, would you and your father have kept burying this from me forever? If you dare irrationally blame him for this, I won’t forgive you. Don’t think that just because we’ve been married for so many years that I’ve never been angry with you, but some things are matters of principle, basic principles—do you think we’re upholding them between us now?”

”Yes, yes, yes, you’re right, wife. Whatever you say is right. I’m the one at fault. As a father, I shouldn’t have hidden this from you; I should’ve told you sooner and let you come back to China with me.

But, Jiayuan, think about it—I returned to China alone a week ago, and they still haven’t woken up. Even if you had come back with me a week earlier, what could change? It would just mean another person waiting here, another person getting hurt, but finding out the truth of this late is actually better for you.”

”Alright, alright, you father and son both say everything is for my benefit.

Now that you’ve acted for my benefit, should I still be angry with you? Will you take me to the hospital? I want to see how my good friend is doing in your company; I’m worried too!”

Xiao Wei took Li Jiayuan to the hospital.

”Uncle Xia and Aunt Jiayuan, you’re here. Please, sit down and rest. Aunt Jiayuan, thank you for worrying about my parents, for tiring yourself out!”

”Silly child, what are you saying? Your mom and I are best friends, and my good friend had an accident—shouldn’t I, as her best friend’s confidant, come to see her? You all never informed us about such an important matter!

Even if you were made of steel, you wouldn’t be able to hold up—you’re bearing all the pain here alone. Haven’t you thought about letting someone help share the burden? Waiting here in agony alone, how can you manage?

Look at your dark circles, you’ve become so haggard. I heard Grandpa fainted; is he alright?”

”Thank you for your concern, Aunt Jiayuan. Grandpa is okay.

He just became so worried about Mom and Dad not waking up that he fainted in a moment of emotion, but there’s no significant issue. Right now I’m most worried about why my parents haven’t woken up yet; it’s been three weeks, and if it goes on over a month, their chances of waking up will be even lower.

I’ve yet to fully investigate the cause of the car accident; I don’t know why my father got distracted while driving, or what circumstances led to such a severe accident. Normally, such serious accidents shouldn’t occur on the highway...”

Zhang Yichen has been investigating this matter, but no matter how he investigates, he hasn’t gotten a precise result. Maybe this outcome will just vanish inexplicably. He’s been waiting for the police to provide a clear answer, but the response hasn’t come, and his parents still haven’t woken up, making him anxious deep down.

”Alright, child, things will eventually pass. Believe your mom and dad will wake up, and believe the truth will come out—you don’t need to worry excessively. Your first important task is to take care of your health and Grandpa, so when your parents wake up they won’t feel sad.

I know what you’re thinking deep down; wherever you are, always remember you are your parents’ pride—that’s an unchangeable fact. In your parents’ hearts, having a son like you is their greatest joy in life.

They won’t feel pride over other things, but they’ll be proud and content to have a son like you. You give them a different life, showing them what true love is. They must be very grateful to you. You truly need to take care of yourself now; don’t let yourself collapse!”
