My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1612: Chapter 1406: Lies?

Now, in Zhang Ni’s heart, Zhang Yichen is just a selfish father. The result of his selfishness and self-interest has been achieved. He would stop at nothing to achieve his goals, even if it meant hurting his own family and loved ones.

He feels that his father has become terrifying, willing to consider only his own interests, without regard for his family. For his own benefit, he can hurt everyone around him.

Now, he doesn’t even understand why he is doing all this. Perhaps his actions will hurt those who love him the most, but it seems he no longer cares. Even so, he continues to do whatever he pleases, having abandoned his entire family, dismissing everything their members say. He is no longer the father he used to be; he has changed, becoming ruthless and cold-hearted. Is this really his father? Why does he live like this now?

Zhang Ni has no way to understand why his father has become like this. What could possibly be the reason? Is it just because he lacked his parents’ love?

Even if it truly is due to a lack of parental affection, he shouldn’t do such things. Didn’t he consider his parents’ feelings and the eventual outcome of his actions? Has he never thought about the deep pain his parents would feel if they knew? In his eyes, there is now only himself; he has entirely become a different person.

Zhang Yichen is aware of how his image has changed in his son’s heart. However, he has no choice now that things have reached this point. He can only let the mistake continue. He never imagined living such a sorrowful life. He thought that as long as he could be happy, as long as his parents could live safely without conflicts, he would be content. But now the world has become so terrible, how can he make it all as if nothing ever happened, returning everything to how it was at the beginning?

”Child, I know that deep down in your heart, I’m just an irresponsible father. We’ve missed too much. You know how desperately I wished for my parents to be with me. You’ve always had your mom and me by your side, so you don’t understand what it’s like to lack parental companionship. You can’t comprehend the excitement, longing, and anguish. We can’t cast aside everything we don’t want, expecting others to bear it. No one is willing to bear it time and again. What I want is really not much; I just hope everyone can live happily and peacefully. Why is it so difficult?

Your inner self no longer holds any place for me. You always think everything I do is for my own selfish desires. Do you know? Over the years, I’ve seen with my own eyes how miserable my grandfather was, how much he longed for his son to be by his side. I’ve grown accustomed to my parents not being around me, but my grandfather cannot. He’s already old and can’t bear any more turmoil. He only wishes for his final desires to be fulfilled. How can I easily extinguish all my grandfather’s hopes for the sake of my hatred?

You should understand deep down how he treated me.

You’ve seen how difficult and painful these years have been for him. He gave me everything good.

Should I let all his years of anticipation be destroyed over such trivial matters?

I once told you that I’m someone who always repays what’s owed. What I can’t have, I’d rather destroy than let anyone else have. But now I can’t do that.

Because if I do, who knows what might become of my grandfather? Sometimes it’s necessary to consider things from others’ perspectives.

That selfish era of mine is over. I can no longer live with a clear conscience like before, indifferent and casual about everything. Now I’m filled with fear for life. I’m scared that a single oversight might bring harm to my family. The decisions I make now are ultimately for the happiness of everyone at home. Do you think our home still resembles a family? The family is fractured; your mother has become like this, and now I have to evict your grandparents because of certain matters. This home would truly be broken, never to return to the peaceful family it once was.”

Zhang Ni might be able to disregard his parents’ opinions, but he cannot ignore his great-grandfather’s thoughts.

Deep down, she knows more than anyone how good Old Master Zhang is to her father and herself. He wants to give us the best of everything, yet these circumstances have hurt him. So how can her conscience be at peace? How can she face those who have helped her? Is everything she has done truly worthy of the support and happiness she once received? She never imagined how difficult her life would be; she only wished for every family member to live happily.

Ultimately, her father’s actions were not wrong. He became who he is today for the sake of this family; he made every move for the happiness of everyone in the family. If she were to blame him for this, would she really be in the right? Wouldn’t she become unkind and unfaithful? She must ensure that the family members live safely and happily. Perhaps the most important thing for a family is for everyone to stick together, facing even thorny paths without ever parting.
