My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1646: Chapter 1440: Important

Actually, nothing is more important in a relationship than mutual trust and understanding.

Zhang Zhentian decided that he needed to step out, to say thank you to his son, and to sincerely thank his grandson.

Though the family’s life had been turned upside down because of him, they still wanted him to stay. He kept persuading himself, even though he couldn’t understand why. But in the end, wasn’t this the ending he most desired? No one wants to leave home, only to come back and leave again.

No matter what, everyone in this family is his kin. Wherever and whenever, he should be there for them, accompany them, offering warmth and genuine care. But what had he done all these years? Abandoning his family, and once again considering leaving them.

Finally, she understood how much pain her father must have felt when she said those words. Even though her heart was aching, she had to pretend not to care. How heartbroken she must have been. But she never considered anything else, striving only for her version of freedom, reaching her goals at the expense of her own family. Was this the decision she should have made, the path she should have taken?

”Grandpa?”

Zhang Ni saw Zhang Zhentian walking toward him. Perhaps it was time to make things clear today?

He didn’t understand why his grandfather went to the hospital. Was it to provoke his mother? He truly didn’t want his mother to suffer any more harm.

His very presence had already disrupted the family’s harmony time and again. Though he was forced to let him stay at home, now he was worried about hearing disheartening words from him, thinking about how his already strong-willed mother would take it.

His mind was in turmoil. He was unsure if letting things continue this way might cause his mother to act impulsively, something he would regret forever.

If his actions hurt his mother, how could he continue to live in this world? If he couldn’t protect her, how could he protect the ones he loved, or promise them happiness and stability?

”Child, I heard your conversation with your father. I’m sorry, this is my fault. I sincerely apologize. It’s because of me that the family became like this. Maybe it’s truly because of my presence that troubles never cease. I didn’t know what to do. Time and again, I only wanted to bring happiness, yet the result was always the opposite, bringing harm instead.

I was determined to leave and not live here anymore. But when you kept persuading me to stay, I realized how much I longed to be part of this family. Being here is a happiness I had abandoned for years, never really lived at home, never even had a reunion dinner. Every time I was abroad, I missed those moments at home. Though physically distant, my heart was with you. Out there, facing everyone, I had to smile, despite my sadness. I didn’t want your mother to feel pressured, only wanted my wife to be happy. As long as I see her smile, regardless of my own hardship, I feel it’s worth it.

Maybe my selfish thinking led to this unbearable outcome. Everything turned into something I least wanted to see, becoming someone I despised. Yet, I have no way to undo it all. I only wished for everyone to live easily, without momentary struggles. I hoped my abilities would earn me respect in this family. But eventually, I realized I can’t even match a fraction of my son’s achievements. I am a failed father, exposing all my failures. Last year, I failed, completely devoid of any chance.”

It’s the first time Zhang Yichen heard his father admit his failures. In his eyes, this was a rare progression. Someone as proud as his father, admitting mistakes in his decisions, recognizing errors in his thoughts. Did he really understand his mistakes now, just to continue living here? If only he realized this sooner, grandpa wouldn’t have suffered so much, and could have lived happily.

”I don’t know if what you said is genuine, or just words for us to hear, but upon hearing them, deep inside, we are happy, delighted, and blissful. At least you’re awakened, realizing your actions weren’t necessarily right. You’re treating everyone in this family as someone to continue living with; by seeing us as family, of course, we won’t easily abandon you. We can’t be that ruthless. We just want everyone to live happily, why change due to past grievances?

If grandpa knows you’ve realized your mistakes, it’d make him happy. Over the years, he feared you didn’t understand, and although he wanted to tell you the truth, he couldn’t. Because if you haven’t figured it out yourself, his words would have worsened things, making you detest your family, believing your decision was right. He couldn’t selfishly let his words harm the whole family.

The family is always the priority. It took a century to build it. How could it be destroyed by trivial setbacks?”

Perhaps this is what you wanted, but you’ll find out how much you hurt those who loved you most.
