My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1644: Chapter 1438: Not Without Feelings

Everyone thinks I’m heartless, but who knows the pain and torment in my heart? Yet I repeatedly abandon the ideals I once held dear, watching as the person I love most walks away step by step. Who can understand that pain?

Old Master Zhang stood outside the door, listening to the conversation between his son and daughter-in-law. She had listened for so long, yet he still couldn’t hear a single correct statement.

He always thought his son was emotionally intelligent, but he never realized his son could be so foolish. Should a woman be treated this way? If so, why do other women avoid him when they see him?

He couldn’t hold back any longer. He really stepped out and pushed open the door, entering his son’s bedroom. Looking at his son and daughter-in-law, he wanted to lecture them properly.

”Dad, why are you here?” Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing asked in unison when they saw Old Master Zhang push the door open and come in.

”Why can’t I be here? If I hadn’t come, would you two just keep going on and on? I’ve been outside listening for so long, and neither of you seems to realize your own mistakes, right?

Zhang Zhentian, do you not even have the basic dignity and backbone as my son? If a woman doesn’t love you, she doesn’t love you. No matter how much you give, she won’t fall for you. If that’s the case, why are you shamelessly trying to be with her? Her heart isn’t with you—no matter how much you give, you’d even give up your life for her. But would she ever truly see you as her beloved?

Never, because she’s already given her heart to someone else, and you’ll never be able to win her heart in this lifetime!

A happy marriage needs two people to work at it. But in a happy marriage, the foundation must be deep feelings between the two and enough trust. Do you think you still have deep feelings and the basic trust in each other? You’re both filled with suspicion towards each other. Do you think this really brings happiness?

I never thought that the child I had worked so hard to raise could be so foolish. You refuse to learn business acumen diligently—fine, I can see that as a specialty. But why can’t you learn even the simplest things? Do you not know how to protect your own dignity? You allow your wife to repeatedly scold you, and what do you do? You just apologize to her over and over. Do you think she’ll soften her heart like that?”

Xia Jing felt embarrassed listening to her father say these things, and she could only laugh foolishly, but her laugh angered Old Master Zhang.

”Why are you laughing? Do you find it amusing that your husband keeps giving everything for you, even his life? Are you truly that heartless? Do you not feel anything? Trying to be with him, to accept him—isn’t that happiness for you?

Sometimes, it’s better not to take things too seriously. You might feel happy, but for those around you, it’s painful.

Perhaps you don’t even realize what you’ve done wrong. You concealed your feelings and hurt my son, trapping him in emotional turmoil for a lifetime.

Do you feel happy with him? Do you feel fulfilled? Deep down, is this the life you wanted? You’ve never thought about the consequences of your actions and what results they bring!”

”I truly don’t understand why you two are always entangled in this issue. I hear my son pleading with you repeatedly to try to have a relationship, yet you remain cold-hearted, never giving him a smile or respect!

No matter what, you both are couples. Legally, you’re married. Do you think it’s appropriate to keep acting like this? Watching your other half lower their head in front of you—does that really make you happy and joyful?

Sometimes you might think his kindness is natural. When you get used to it, and he suddenly stops being kind, you’ll think he’s changed, abandoned you, and the whole world has left you.

But has he really changed? Did he abandon you? No, he’s just been hurt by you to the point where he doesn’t know how to express it anymore. He can only protect himself by becoming a hedgehog, pricking whoever approaches. It’s the only way he can protect himself from any more emotional harm. You’ve never considered his experiences—just what you want. What you want, she may not be able to give, but what he wants, you can offer. Why not try providing him some happiness and finding some joy for yourself too?

There are things I know I shouldn’t say outright, but I hope you’ll consider them. Only well-thought-out decisions won’t lead to regret. If you make a hasty decision and end up regretting it for life, what’s the point of that decision?”

Xia Jing and Old Master Zhang felt their father’s words were right.

Xia Jing wondered if she really was that heartless. Why, when her husband repeatedly lowered his head and said touching things to her, did she choose to remain silent? Why, when her husband repeatedly bowed to her, could she only choose to heartlessly reject and avoid him?

Sometimes, looking at just two photos, she felt her own demeanor seemed heartless. No matter how much she gave, it was insignificant in his eyes. He’d never change his views because of her efforts, only viewing her actions with the same hard-heartedness, which made her feel deeply troubled.

It’s often just an excuse she gives herself!
