Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 599: Chapter 98: Tracking

Survival Day Twenty-Nine.

The wind is not agreeable, the sun is not bright.

After getting up in the morning, Chen Wen calculated and then said, ”Today is not suitable for going out, better to do some work in the shelter.”

”By the way, I’m planning to ice fish in a couple of days. Since the weather is mediocre today, I’ll modify the gillnet in the shelter, and make a perch for Eagle, so it won’t stand on the bed every time it comes inside.”

”It would be a real pity if it damaged the black bear skin on the bed!”

This was said to the camera.

Upon hearing Chen Wen’s words and seeing him live a seemingly retired life,

the contestants’ assistants on the production team side had quite complicated expressions.

Even Luo Yao couldn’t help but distance herself from this area, to avoid being agitated by Chen Wen.

At this point, Vic’s assistant sighed and said, ”Staff, plug in the headset, we’re too fed up with watching Chen Wen’s side.”

Previously, with Chen Wen’s constant actions, everyone discussed and had the staff remove the headset.

Now it seems...

It’s best to plug it back in to avoid agitation.

The staff nodded, plugged the headset back in, but secretly laughed inside.

After things wrapped up on this side, Vic’s assistant couldn’t help but look at Vic on the screen.

Sighed again.

The weather today really isn’t great, but for Vic, it can’t be delayed any longer.

Tomorrow is the thirtieth day, and also the first inspection.

With significant weight loss and no stored food, the production team will likely forcefully end his survival.

Therefore, today is Vic’s last chance.

Continue on, or be eliminated miserably.

It all depends on today!

Vic’s assistant thought, sighing inwardly.

Look at Chen Wen’s food reserves, he didn’t even bring a bow and arrow.

Why is the gap so big?

...

As for Vic.

He was intently searching for traces on the ground.

This time, in his desperate effort, he wasn’t completely unprepared.

Vic had discoveries before.

But not musk oxen, it was moose.

A group of moose!

Moose are large animals, their footprints are naturally big, deep, and unique.

A few days ago, Vic found moose tracks in this direction.

It should be a moose family, coming to this area in search of food.

Vic knows a lot about moose.

He knows well that moose are large animals with high consumption, they spend their entire day foraging and seeking water.

So, in this food-rich area, moose might stay for a while.

This is the opportunity Vic is looking for.

But tracking moose is not an easy task.

As typical forest animals, moose have poor eyesight, but their sense of smell and hearing are top-notch.

Therefore, after arriving at the place where he found moose footprints, Vic had already prepared for hunting moose in advance.

He unloaded miscellaneous items from his body and disabled the intelligent drone follow, only using a first-person lens for recording.

He also crushed pine needles with stones and smeared them on his body to mask his scent.

After thoroughly covering his scent,

Vic slowly stood up and started tracking along the footprints.

While tracking, he checked the food around the footprints.

As mentioned earlier, moose eat all day, so he can gauge his distance from the moose by assessing the surrounding plants for signs of grazing.

After tracking for about an hour.

Vic stopped for the first time.

In front of him was a crooked birch tree.

On its drooping branches, only a few leaves remained.

This is evidence of moose grazing!

And the grazing moose passed by not long ago!

Vic was sure because there was fresh water residue on the leaves, though it had already frozen into ice.

It might be moose saliva or some resin-like substance.

Vic made a judgment based on the condition of the leaf breaks.

”About ten minutes back, the moose were grazing these birch leaves. Moose favor birch trees, they enjoy the bark, leaves, and twigs.”

Vic spoke in a low, somewhat weak voice.

This is from eating too much rabbit.

He took a deep breath to conserve energy and said no more.

In such extreme cold, even breathing more causes heat loss and increases the body’s consumption.

In Vic’s view, a top-notch survivor wouldn’t overlook such details.

Meanwhile, a handsome Chen surnamed guy scratching his head contemplating a winter swim in the lake, and a cold shower: is it unstable to take a cold shower now?

...

As for Vic.

He continued tracking the moose’s traces, this time he was even more cautious.

With each step, Vic deliberately avoided branches and the like to avoid making noise.

He also searched for more moose traces.

For such large animals like moose, it’s pretty hard not to leave traces.

Therefore, tracking their whereabouts is relatively easy for Vic.

He primarily determined the moose’s direction from three aspects.

The simplest is the moose footprints.

These giant animals weigh at least over 500 kilograms, leaving deep and large footprints.

By following the direction of the footprints, he could easily find where the moose departed.

Additionally, moose hair can be used.

Lastly, the grazing marks.

Finding these clues might be difficult for ordinary people, but for an experienced Hunter Guide like Vic, it’s quite simple.

He quickly caught up with the moose, even using a piece of moose dung to approximately gauge his distance from them.

”Two hundred to two hundred fifty meters!”

Vic’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

With hours of tracking invested, he finally saw the payoff!

He swallowed and continued tracking.

Soon, among the woods, several large figures caught Vic’s attention.

It was moose!

Very large moose!

There were three, two females and one male.

Looks like it’s a moose group about to have offspring.

Vic paused for a moment, then focused his attention on the male moose.

This is his hunting target!

Not just because of its massive body but also because the two female moose might be pregnant.

Vic didn’t want to hunt pregnant moose, which relates to his personal habits.

As a hunter by profession, he has a respect for nature.

Hunters respect nature because it provides them with abundant food.

Hunters fear nature because it can also punish them, making them return empty-handed.

The wisdom of the ancestors is never wrong.

With that thought, Vic began hunting.
