Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 579: Chapter 78: The Hunt Begins

Screech!

The eagle’s sharp call heralded the beginning of the hunt.

It flapped its wings and soared high into the sky, observing the situation on the ground.

Familiar with the terrain, it found the cattle’s resting place and began to hover, becoming a guiding beacon.

At the same time, its actions were also a reminder to Chen Wen that the cattle were still in place.

”Hurry up!”

To turn a bicycle into a motorcycle, Chen Wen moved swiftly.

He directly activated the Forest Concealment Step, combining the parkour techniques he learned from Qu Yong upon returning from Caprivi.

Under the camera’s lens, Chen Wen showcased a world-class forest parkour right in front of the program staff.

His movements, already fast with the Swift support, were even quicker.

Especially with the added support of the more advanced Agile Posture.

Each acceleration and jump left the program staff in awe.

”Wow, Chen Wen can do parkour too!”

”At this speed, he’s definitely a veteran!”

”Damn! This young man! Damn! That backflip twisted like a pretzel! Damn!”

Even assistant Lin Jiawei couldn’t help but speak in his hometown dialect at this point.

Truly impressive!

Chen Wen’s parkour learning was something he had slightly heard of.

It was internal association gossip.

It’s said that Qu Yong mentioned Chen Wen’s parkour talent while chatting with Liu Yu.

Back then, Liu Yu was skeptical, so Qu Yong showcased Chen Wen’s training, causing Liu Yu, who was drinking tea, to spray tea all over Qu Yong’s phone, damaging it.

Although there was an exaggeration in the story,

it was enough to prove how solid Chen Wen’s parkour skills were!

...

A burst of parkour warm-up.

Chen Wen gradually slowed his pace.

The reason was simple; he had now reached close to the musk oxen herd.

The distance was about 200 meters to the musk oxen herd.

The eagle saw Chen Wen and his group and descended from on high.

The wolf mink could barely keep up with Chen Wen’s speed, while the red fox was relatively relaxed.

But the old wolf lagged far behind.

When the limping old wolf finally caught up, Chen Wen spoke directly: ”To be brief, this time I’m leading the hunt!”

No animal objected.

Chen Wen continued with the plan he had thought of overnight: ”Cang Yi, fly up into the sky, observe the herd’s movements, and report in time!”

The eagle, after learning that a group of raptors called themselves xwing, decisively named itself Cang Yi.

Very sociable.

”King Kong, later I’ll find you a tree. Hide up there. If I have to escape, make a noise or even urinate from the tree to block the musk ox that’s chasing me.”

The wolf mink nodded immediately.

This task was very familiar to it.

”Red Shadow, you’re like the wolf mink, but on another tree. I’ll send you up there.”

Chen Wen said, looking at the red fox.

This was the name he gave to the red fox.

The red fox nodded seriously.

It could already feel the tension in the air.

Of course, at this point, only the wolf mink was oblivious.

Lastly, the North American gray wolf.

Chen Wen took a deep breath and said, ”Old wolf, you can’t climb trees this time, so you might face danger, you...”

”Don’t worry!”

The old wolf’s eyes shone with confidence: ”I’ve never feared danger!”

Very well!

Chen Wen nodded with satisfaction and continued: ”You and I will move together. After my hunt, whether successful or not, if the musk oxen charge at us, remember to split off and run, attracting some attention.”

The old wolf nodded.

In the forest, even with its injured leg, it could still easily outpace the musk oxen in terms of speed.

Moreover, the old wolf was skilled at running in circles.

By leading the musk oxen around a few times, it would definitely confuse them!

The old wolf was full of confidence, and this was its trump card for surviving in the forest until now.

Task allocation complete.

Chen Wen looked at the animals taking their positions, took a deep breath, and calmed his mind.

”The hunt begins!”

...

Chen Wen slowly approached the musk oxen herd.

He wasn’t skilled in pursuit, so this time he aimed to kill the old musk ox nearby.

He couldn’t let it escape with an injury.

Therefore, the hunting distance needed to be closer, to enhance the power of the long spear.

About a hundred meters from the musk oxen herd, Chen Wen had already exited the forest.

Without the forest’s cover, he was instantly spotted by the musk oxen herd.

Some large male musk oxen slowly rose, watching this unfamiliar intruder with caution.

Chen Wen did not rashly approach or provoke this already tense herd.

He strolled leisurely around the herd, like an old man taking a walk, exhibiting no hunting demeanor.

While circling the herd, Chen Wen kept waving his hand, signaling the old wolf to hide temporarily in the woods.

The musk ox had a decent memory; abruptly reintroducing the once-seen old wolf might make them more anxious.

Because Chen Wen showed no provocative behavior, and the distance was properly maintained,

the musk oxen didn’t take much action, just stared at Chen Wen, quite intimidatingly.

However, Chen Wen remained unflustered.

After circling halfway, Chen Wen stopped at a vantage point within the herd.

From there, he could overlook the wild oxen herd, easily identifying targets and increasing the javelin’s impact.

It was a pretty decent spot.

As he stopped, the herd stirred again.

The adult male musk oxen started moving toward Chen Wen.

Seeing the herd’s reaction, Chen Wen quickly stepped back, increasing the distance.

This act of showing weakness successfully misled the musk oxen herd, making them think Chen Wen was just a passerby, not intending to attack.

Thus, the herd gradually dropped their guard against him, though still remained vigilant.

A mature male musk ox lay down at the edge of the herd on Chen Wen’s side.

Seeing this, Chen Wen also sat down with ease.

He began to choose his target and observe the herd’s condition.

This musk ox herd had no special animals, and even if there were, Chen Wen didn’t have intentions to tame them.

One reason was he couldn’t afford it, and another was that as herd animals, musk oxen were unlikely to abandon their group to leave with Chen Wen.

The special animals Chen Wen had tamed mostly were lone wolves.

The few with herds, like the hippo and the old wolf, were creatures abandoned by their groups.

The previous western black-crowned long-armed ape, as the group leader, did not choose to follow Chen Wen.

Thoughts returned to the herd itself.

Chen Wen quickly locked onto his target, the old, injured musk ox.

At the moment, it lay dazed on the ground, resting and digesting food simultaneously.

Its condition hadn’t worsened compared to a few days ago, but it showed no signs of improvement either.

Waiting indefinitely wasn’t an option.

Chen Wen lightly gripped a prop long spear in his left hand, and with his right hand reached for a stone spear hidden behind him.

With the spear in hand, a wave of calm washed over Chen Wen.

His eyes remained fixed on the old musk ox as he slowly raised his arm.

The musk ox watching Chen Wen noticed his movements and looked over immediately.

However, Chen Wen was merely stretching, moving his arm as if yawning.

The musk ox, after observing for a while, lost interest in him.

Chen Wen took the opportunity to increase the speed and frequency of his actions, desensitizing the musk ox to his movements.

After a while, Chen Wen suddenly stood up.

Before the musk ox could react, he abruptly sat back down.

The musk oxen, annoyed by Chen Wen’s little antics, chose to ignore him.

Which was precisely what Chen Wen wanted.

After performing this desensitization training for half an hour,

the musk oxen herd no longer bothered with Chen Wen.

Finally, the opportunity for the hunt had quietly presented itself!
