Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 566: Chapter 65: Northern Pike

Chen Wen easily jumped down from the tree and glanced at the North American porcupine whose life was rapidly fading away.

This guy didn’t suffer much pain.

This time, Chen Wen’s aim was the front part of the porcupine’s body.

The long spear flew out swiftly, precisely piercing the porcupine’s body.

The giant strength imbued in the spear brutally broke its spine, severing its nerves.

Chen Wen didn’t look at the porcupine again, but turned to the Wolf Mink and Eagle gathering around.

”Well done!”

He didn’t hold back his praise, feeling very satisfied with the performance of the two animals.

The Eagle used its aerial advantage to spot prey, while the Wolf Mink was responsible for driving the prey into Chen Wen’s attack range, letting him finish the job with a spear.

This teamwork, superb!

However, this hunting method doesn’t work well on large animals.

Chen Wen is well aware of this.

The Wolf Mink was excited to hear Chen Wen’s praise.

It let out a whining sound, celebrating the successful hunt.

It really loved this kind of hunting!

It hardly put in any effort and managed to take down a prey that used to be quite troublesome before.

This was utterly thrilling!

Besides, it could share a lot of meat!

Chen Wen was quite generous with the special animals.

The Eagle stood aside, more reserved; its personality was somewhat similar to the Snowy Owl, a bit aloof.

But its eyes also showed delight.

It also enjoyed this kind of hunt, only needing to find the prey.

Other friends would handle everything else!

Friends, such a wondrous bond!

The Eagle thought.

No matter what the two animals were thinking, on Chen Wen’s side, he pulled out the long spear.

He had thoroughly grasped the charm of hunting with a long spear.

No wonder Liu liked this method of hunting; spear hunting indeed was exhilarating!

The power was immense and unstoppable.

As long as the prey wasn’t too large, a single spear was a definite kill!

It even seemed that slightly larger North American wolves could also be killed with one spear!

For even larger musk oxen, grizzlies, etc., as long as one hits the vital organs, the spear’s penetration could be fatal too!

Even if it didn’t hit the vital organs, the spear has blood grooves, and as long as you keep pursuing, the bleeding will eventually kill the prey.

Except that it can’t handle flying prey and rather small prey too well, it’s simply perfect!

After pulling out the long spear, Chen Wen examined the porcupine’s body.

”The thorns don’t seem very useful, but they can be collected.”

Chen Wen calculated the uses of different body parts of the porcupine, continuing, ”The skin, forget it, just scrape off the fat; the smell is quite bad and it’s troublesome to process, no need for tanning.”

”However, you can try burning off the outer fur with fire to preserve as much subcutaneous fat as possible.”

”As for the internal organs, Wolf Mink, you and the Eagle can share them as your spoils! Consider it a bonus meal!”

Hearing this, the Wolf Mink got instantly excited.

”Hahaha! Bonus meal! I just love bonus meals!”

The Wolf Mink couldn’t help but do a little spin, its excitement was palpable.

The Eagle was slightly more reserved, but it was very happy at this moment too.

It had almost done nothing and got a load of eats for nothing, following humans was the right choice!

At this time, the Short-tailed Weasel groggily crawled out of Chen Wen’s pocket.

It heard about eating...

But Chen Wen didn’t give any to this little guy.

If it eats too much during the day, its enthusiasm for hunting at night would decrease.

With the number of animals at the camp increasing, Chen Wen felt the rules of the camp needed some defining.

Including food distribution.

Otherwise, disputes could arise easily.

The biggest need of this group of animals is survival.

Thus, food distribution is crucial.

Having thought this through, Chen Wen led the animals towards the lakeside.

He planned to process the porcupine by the lake.

Additionally, it was closer to the netting area.

Chen Wen intended to check the condition of the fishing net along the way.

...

When Chen Wen was heading towards the fishing net.

Over at Adam’s side.

He was quietly lying on the ground, watching the valley in front of him.

This valley had low-lying terrain, sparse vegetation on the ground, and most importantly, the ground in this valley was bumpy and pock-marked, giving anyone with trypophobia goosebumps.

But Adam was staring with wide eyes, afraid to miss anything.

”This is an Arctic hare burrow! And it’s a large group of hare burrows!”

Adam said, swallowing hard.

He had been doing quite well in the early stages.

But as he spared energy to build a shelter.

His food supply dwindled drastically, and now he only ate once a day and was far from full.

Therefore, upon seeing such a burrow, Adam couldn’t hold back.

He rummaged through the animal skin satchel he carried - made from a North American porcupine skin.

Although it can’t hold much, and it smells quite strong, it’s better than nothing - Adam didn’t bring clothing that could carry things like Chen Wen.

Soon, Adam found a rope snare trap.

He circled to the exit of the valley and set up a row of snare traps there.

Hoping to catch rabbits when he comes back tomorrow!

Adam prayed in his heart.

...

Back to Chen Wen.

When he reached the lakeside, the situation with the fishing net made Chen Wen frown.

”It actually drifted into the water, what’s going on?”

He walked down the steep slope, arriving at the netting area.

”Hiss! This is difficult!”

After a rough observation, Chen Wen said so.

He had previously fixed the fishing net to the shore, using stones to weigh down pinewood, thus securing the net.

But now, the pinewood, originally fixed, was floating about twenty meters away from the shore.

It was clearly blown away by the wind or dragged away by something.

”Sigh, difficult, is this area not suitable for netting?”

Chen Wen couldn’t help saying.

Since setting the net here, he hadn’t caught many fish, and the net kept having issues.

Could it be that this area and I are just incompatible?

He shook his head, throwing those convoluted thoughts away.

Anyway, right now, he had to retrieve the fishing net; otherwise, it could be blown even further by the wind.

At that point, the net would be wasted.

But how to get the net up...

Chen Wen glanced at the Wolf Mink, then shook his head.

Although the Wolf Mink could swim, it would struggle to pull the net up.

He had to dive into the water himself to retrieve the net.

Chen Wen sighed, starting to strip off his clothes.

In this weather, diving in the water, without the trait of [Cold Water Fish], would be dangerous.

After all, it’s cold, and the wind is not small, with low water temperatures.

Once ashore, if you can’t quickly put on clothes and warm up.

The risk of catching a cold is high.

However, Chen Wen had [Cold Water Fish] to adapt to the water temperature and [Variable Temperature] to alter body temperature, so he wasn’t too worried.

After taking off his clothes, Chen Wen did some light warming up, then plunged into the water.

The Wolf Mink followed with a splash.

It curiously watched Chen Wen, as if saying, you can swim too?

Chen Wen ignored the Wolf Mink and quickened his swimming pace.

A moment later.

He easily swam to the vicinity of the fishing net.

Just as Chen Wen reached out to pull the pinewood tied to the fishing net in front of him.

The Wolf Mink suddenly said, ”There’s fish! Big fish!”

Upon hearing the Wolf Mink’s shout, Chen Wen was taken aback.

Then, as he pulled, the mesh net came into Chen Wen’s view.

He took a closer look, and his previously expressionless, even slightly impatient face instantly turned to excitement.

”Big fish!”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but say, ”This is a Northern Pike!”

Before Chen Wen could finish saying, his expression changed again, ”And not just one! We’re rich!”

Although the Wolf Mink didn’t understand what being rich meant, it knew very well that tonight there was a bonus meal!
