Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 593: Chapter 92: Lure

The grizzly bear that had provoked Chen Wen and his group had become the target that Chen Wen and the animals were determined to take down.

The old wolf hadn’t been hunting in recent days.

It was thinking of using its former status as a wolf king to enlist the help of its old pack in the hunt.

But unfortunately, the pack of North American gray wolves seemed to have been scared off by Chen Wen.

They had migrated in the northwest direction.

The old wolf couldn’t find them.

Meanwhile, the Wolf Mink and Red Fox focused on monitoring the grizzly bear’s movements.

The grizzly had been very quiet these days, seemingly in deep slumber.

The Eagle stayed at the shelter with Chen Wen, chatting to relieve boredom and boost Chen Wen’s work efficiency.

The weasel remained the ballast stone guarding Chen Wen’s food.

As long as it stayed in Chen Wen’s shelter, no rats could sneak in to steal food.

The next day came.

In the morning, Chen Wen gathered the animals, systematically arranging tasks.

The Eagle was responsible for monitoring the entire situation from the air.

The Wolf Mink and Red Fox were in charge of surveillance.

The old wolf and the weasel stayed to guard the house.

This time, the main attacker was still Chen Wen.

At this moment, Chen Wen looked at the modified thorn net and began transporting it and its accessories near the grizzly bear’s shelter in batches.

The trap was similar to the one used by Fred to hunt black bears.

Chen Wen also adopted this method to trap the bear.

He dismantled part of the four edges of the thorn net, leaving long ropes and fixing four round logs on the edges.

The thorn net was large.

Covering the grizzly bear posed no problem.

Therefore, after transporting the thorn net near the grizzly bear’s shelter, Chen Wen began assembling it.

He fixed the logs on the four edges of the thorn net, then set the trap on the surrounding trees.

The area Chen Wen chose to set the trap was a large, lush pine forest.

The trees here were close together, making it suitable for setting traps.

After securing the trap to the branches of several pine trees, Chen Wen started setting the bait.

He brought some leg bones of muskoxen — already broken and the marrow extracted.

Along with some smoked black bear meat and some food previously reserved.

These items alone weren’t enough to lure the grizzly bear out of hibernation.

Chen Wen also brought some firewood and kindling.

He planned to ignite the flame here, throwing in the bones and meat into the fire, allowing them to exude a richer aroma.

This trick had been used by Chen Wen and Hua Yun back in the Yukon.

Additionally, the grizzly bear had a fear of flames; Chen Wen felt the smell of burning could also alarm it.

Besides that, there were weapons.

The batch of stone spears made last time was brought along by Chen Wen; if the grizzly bear couldn’t quickly break free from the trap, Chen Wen planned to use the stone spears for a bloodletting.

If it could break free easily.

Chen Wen felt the long spear tucked behind his back, thinking he definitely had to use this tool to pierce a weak spot in the grizzly bear.

An axe and hunting knife were also brought by Chen Wen just in case.

Once everything was ready and the animals were in position,

Chen Wen lit the bonfire.

He crouched down, gently blowing on the kindling, causing a shower of sparks to shoot out and land on the tinder.

He then lifted the tinder and blew gently.

The flame suddenly flared up.

Chen Wen skillfully ignited the bonfire, and soon, a large blaze was roaring.

”His fire-starting skill is really high, no wonder he dares not to carry a fire starter,”

Greg said, unable to resist complimenting, as he watched Chen Wen adeptly light the bonfire.

Beside him, the chief guide nodded in agreement.

Chen Wen’s fire-starting technique and his planning of equipment seemed top-notch to them.

”Do you think his hunting will succeed this time?”

The chief guide asked.

Grizzly bears are such dangerous prey that virtually no one has hunted them, and no one knows what dangers may arise in grizzly hunting.

Hearing this, Greg shook his head slightly.

He was not certain either.

However, recalling Chen Wen’s almost magical spear skills from before, he felt the difficulty of hunting the grizzly bear shouldn’t be too great.

But that was just a feeling.

”I can’t say for sure, but this time I think we won’t have the rescue team on standby,”

Greg said with a smile. ”Last time we had the rescue team prepare extensively, expecting Chen Wen might be eliminated, but it ended up pointless since Shijing Heren was the one eliminated, and it cost us a lot of money for nothing.”

Hearing this, the chief guide laughed heartily.

After laughing, he continued, ”It seems you’re quite confident in Chen Wen this time. I’m backing Fred; they’re both hunting grizzlies, but I feel Fred is a bit more reliable.”

Fred, huh...

Greg nodded. This contestant had delivered quite a few surprises this time.

Let alone hunting black bears, he now wanted to fight a grizzly bear.

However, his side still needed much preparation, while Chen Wen’s side was about to start the hunt.

”Let’s place a bet then. I feel Chen Wen should be able to complete the hunt easily.”

”Alright, I’m in. I think Fred can achieve the feat of hunting the bear!”

...

Along with the wager agreement between the two senior members of the program crew,

Chen Wen slowly placed the bait into the bonfire.

As the flames licked the bait, black grease began oozing from the bones, and the meat was being incinerated.

A strange and intense aroma wafted from the bonfire.

Chen Wen extinguished the bonfire, leaving only the smoking bait.

At this moment, the Red Fox and Wolf Mink, responsible for surveillance, sounded warnings.

The Eagle received the signals and immediately relayed to Chen Wen, ”The grizzly bear is making a move! It’s waking up!”

Hearing this, Chen Wen’s expression shifted slightly.

After rechecking the weapons and traps, he quickly climbed a nearby pine tree, ready to release the trap.

With everything in place, the hunt targeting the grizzly bear began!

...

Today was an odd day for the hibernating grizzly bear.

In its drowsy state, the grizzly bear sensed small animals approaching its den.

Initially, the grizzly bear didn’t care much about these animals.

These small creatures posed no threat to it.

But soon, a peculiar smell wafted into the grizzly bear’s nostrils.

The scent resembled food — delicious and alluring to the bear.

However, alongside, the grizzly bear detected a scent it particularly disliked.

The smell of fire!

Whenever such a smell emerged from the forest, the grizzly bear was reminded of its terrifying past experiences.

The grizzly bear thought: It should go out to check; if there’s danger, it must be avoided!

Thus, the grizzly bear’s heartbeat gradually increased, rising from about ten beats per minute to a normal rate.

At the same time, its breathing also sped up.

In just a few minutes,

the grizzly bear awoke from its hibernation.

Its terrifying eyes scanned the hibernating den and caught sight of shadows outside.

It’s them!

Memories flickered in the grizzly bear’s mind — unpleasant memories indeed.

A Wolf Mink had once dared to steal and taint its food!

The Wolf Mink shivered upon seeing the grizzly bear’s eyes open, then quickly turned to flee.

And the grizzly bear slowly lumbered out of its hibernation den.

It shook off the dust from its body and looked in the direction where the Wolf Mink fled — the same direction from which the smell emanated.

Was there food there?

The grizzly bear moved its massive body, gradually heading toward Chen Wen’s trap.
