Chapter 554: Chapter 53: Taming the Cunning Old Wolf

Another special animal with a cunning personality.

Chen Wen took a deep breath and raised the long spear.

Cunning is a difficult trait to tame, but once tamed, it exhibits high intelligence.

However, with the red fox in front, Chen Wen didn’t hesitate too much.

He coughed to signal the red fox and the wolf mink to retreat behind him.

Then he looked at the North American gray wolf and said, ”Why did you attack us?”

The North American gray wolf was momentarily stunned upon hearing Chen Wen’s question.

A hint of confusion flickered in its eyes, but soon turned into vigilance.

After a moment of pause, the old wolf spoke: ”You were the ones following me first!”

What an old voice!

Chen Wen couldn’t help but glance at the sagging fur of the North American gray wolf.

This North American gray wolf should be the oldest animal he has seen so far, even the nineteen-year-old Northeast Tiger, Da Ju, sounded younger than this North American gray wolf.

Moreover, due to the blessing of the Animal Doctor, Da Ju’s lifespan should be extended a bit.

When he met Da Ju before, Chen Wen felt that Da Ju was more energetic than when he first saw it.

And this North American gray wolf is likely an animal nearing the end of its life.

”But you stole my friend’s food first.”

Chen Wen said, observing the old wolf’s movements.

It didn’t show any signs of fear or cowardice, obviously well-experienced.

Hearing Chen Wen’s words, the old wolf seemed to chuckle.

It calmly said, ”In this forest, whoever has the sharper claws and teeth gets to enjoy more food.”

Chen Wen brandished the long spear: ”Do you think your claws and teeth are sharper than this thing?”

The old wolf didn’t recognize the long spear.

But it could sense the threat from it, something that could kill it.

Survival is an animal’s instinct.

It nodded and said, ”No, so what do you need? I can feel you’re trying to get something from me, I can give it to you, but as a trade, you must let me leave!”

”Of course, I will not return here again after this, I will go to a more distant place and no longer disturb you.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen hesitated briefly.

After all, his main goal in taming animals is for entries and for them to assist in survival.

But this old wolf clearly couldn’t assist in survival.

On the contrary, Chen Wen might have to spend time and energy taking care of it.

Thus, obtaining the entry and letting it fend for itself would undoubtedly be the best choice.

This also aligns with Chen Wen’s interests.

But looking at the old gray wolf, Chen Wen couldn’t bear to let it just fend for itself in the forest.

After all, it’s an animal that can communicate.

Thinking it over, Chen Wen decided to offer food and shelter as a reason to convince the old wolf to join them.

But just as Chen Wen was about to state the condition, the old wolf didn’t immediately agree.

Food and shelter, providing protection.

Chen Wen felt that no animal could refuse such generous conditions.

This old wolf was the first.

It didn’t respond but looked at the red fox and wolf mink by Chen Wen’s feet.

The red fox, being timid, shrank back immediately upon sensing the old wolf’s gaze.

Meanwhile, the wolf mink took on a provocative stance.

Realizing the old wolf’s age, it began to consider fighting it.

After all, being scared away by this old wolf was quite an embarrassing experience for it.

The old wolf let out a weird laugh and said, ”There’s no such thing as free food in this world; you’re offering me such good terms surely because you want something more, I won’t agree to it.”

After saying that, the old wolf said, ”Give me a way out, I’ll give you what you want, and promise never to return to this area.”

So smart!

And so clear-headed!

Chen Wen couldn’t help but look at the old wolf; this was the first animal able to remain composed in the face of temptation.

But this old wolf was still quite straightforward, expressing everything it thought bluntly.

Plus, it couldn’t possibly imagine someone would willingly protect animals unconditionally in this world.

Chen Wen chuckled, feeling somewhat relieved.

He decided to make one last attempt, if successful, to shelter this elderly North American gray wolf.

If unsuccessful, then obtain the entry and let this North American gray wolf fend for itself.

Thus, Chen Wen said, ”I do have something I want.”

Hearing this, the old wolf grew tense.

It worried that Chen Wen wanted its life.

In this world, all animals’ desires boil down to appetite, and the old wolf knew this well.

It could sense the other party also ate meat.

And it, undoubtedly, was a sizable chunk of easily obtainable meat.

Chen Wen, unaware of what the old wolf was thinking, continued, ”I need you to teach them how to hunt, your hunting experience.”

Wolves excel in pack hunting.

Chen Wen thought of this idea partly to keep the old wolf and partly because he genuinely wanted the old wolf to impart hunting skills to his animal friends.

The old wolf paused in surprise.

It racked its brain but couldn’t have imagined this answer.

The old wolf hesitated for a while, but seeing Chen Wen’s amiable smile and that kind of natural affection from the bottom of his heart.

It sighed and began to waver.

At that moment, Chen Wen added the final leverage to completely subdue the old wolf.

”If you agree, I can also extend your life, not by much, but at least you’ll live a little longer.”

Hearing this, the old wolf immediately nodded: ”Alright!”

No matter what plans this peculiar two-legged creature had, as long as he didn’t eat it, what harm was there in agreeing?

The old wolf lowered its head, its two hind legs tucked with its tail, almost crawling as it approached Chen Wen.

Chen Wen knew well that this was the old wolf demonstrating submission.

And voluntary submission.

Seeing the old wolf approach, Chen Wen instinctively reached out, and the old wolf immediately lay on its side on the ground, exposing its belly while emitting low growls.

Seeing this, Chen Wen confidently extended his hand, gently stroking its furry head.

”Welcome to the team.”

Chen Wen was talking to the old wolf as well as to the wolf mink and red fox.

At the same time, Chen Wen activated communication functionality for the old wolf.

The wolf mink and red fox had both experienced this before, reducing much of their hostility toward the old wolf.

With Chen Wen’s constraints, though reluctant, the wolf mink said, ”Since it’s joining us, the issue of food theft from before... we’ll settle it later!”

Goodness, that’s the gluttonous nature, I suppose?

Chen Wen couldn’t resist glancing at the wolf mink, expecting it to let it slide.

The red fox, on the other hand, was a bit more friendly.

It nodded to the old wolf: ”Welcome aboard.”

The North American gray wolf sat up now, having submitted to Chen Wen and not the wolf mink or red fox.

At this moment, it saw them as members of the same tribe on an equal footing.

The old wolf nodded and said, ”I will find a way to compensate you for the food earlier.”

Though no concrete action was taken, these words improved the wolf mink’s mood a bit.

It huffed but didn’t make things difficult for the old wolf anymore.

Seeing this, Chen Wen took out a few strips of meat from what he had on him and distributed them to the three animals.

Perhaps a welcome lunch?

Chen Wen mused, taking a piece for himself as well.

Meanwhile, he also received a notification from the system, indicating that the old wolf’s entry could be extracted now.

...

Once again, Chen Wen demonstrated the miracle of taming, astonishing the entire staff of the program team.

”It seems like Chen Wen can communicate with animals, just stood there talking for a bit, and the animal was tamed.”

An assistant muttered.

This comment piqued a lot of interest, and everyone looked at Lin Jiawei, expectantly waiting for his response.
