Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 581: Chapter 80: An Unexpected Turn

The appearance of the muskox was clearly observed by the program team on this side.

”This time it’s impressive!”

A hunting guide couldn’t help but praise, ”It directly tore through the muskox’s skin. It’s a pity, if we had a spear with a blood groove, this muskox would almost be sentenced to death.”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Hunting is not as simple as most people think, but it’s not very difficult either.

As long as you hit the body of the prey with a weapon, make them bleed, and then continue the pursuit.

Most prey can hardly withstand this combo.

”However, even if the damage this time is significant, if the herd doesn’t move, it’s going to be tough.”

An assistant to one of the contestants said, ”If the herd keeps staying here, Chen Wen won’t be able to take the prey away.”

The hunting guide, upon hearing this, smiled and said, ”It’s not going to happen. The muskox will go to feed, and by then, Chen Wen will have his chance.”

”And... the weather seems to have already started to deteriorate.”

Just as the guide said, for Chen Wen, the weather had indeed changed.

The already overcast sky turned completely dark.

Thick and dense clouds covered the sky.

And a wave of turbulent wind also started to blow.

The weather has completely changed!

Retreating to the forest area, Chen Wen saw this scene and was quite delighted.

He had already injured the old muskox further, and once the herd began to migrate, it was sure to fall behind!

By then, the life or death of this muskox would be entirely in his hands!

Just as Chen Wen was thinking this, the herd began to stir.

It seemed that his attack had made the herd feel unsafe here.

After a bit of restlessness, that extremely robust muskox let out a deep bellow.

Then, some muskoxen that had been lying on the ground seemed to be called upon, and slowly rose to their feet.

The herd began to gather.

But just then, the old wolf, who had been hiding in the forest, suddenly shouted, ”Not good! Run quickly! I smell the scent of our kind!”

Before the words even finished.

The wolf mink’s warning call synchronously came through, ”Chen Wen run! There’s a lot of creatures like the old wolf rushing out from the other side!”

The other side?

Chen Wen instinctively looked up and toward the other side of the hillside.

The next second.

He locked eyes with a pair of wolf’s eyes.

Those eyes were particularly cruel! Cold!

Cold like the winter of Great Slave Lake!

No way!

Alert, Chen Wen quickly averted his gaze and withdrew deep into the forest to meet up with the old wolf.

Then, he hoisted the old wolf onto his shoulders and quickly climbed towards the top of a spruce tree.

A moment later, Chen Wen settled on a branch and placed the old wolf on the branch.

”This was once my pack.”

As the group of North American gray wolves slowly approached the hillside and started a standoff with the muskox herd.

The old wolf said rather sadly.

Hearing this, Chen Wen roughly observed.

This group of North American gray wolves was quite large in scale.

There were ten involved in hunting!

And each one was strong and robust.

At this moment, this group of North American gray wolves was emitting a series of peculiar howls, pouring out from the other side of the hillside, confronting the muskox herd.

Listening to the sounds from that side, the old wolf said, ”They are hunting the muskox, it seems that the old muskox was injured by them!”

This statement left Chen Wen slightly stunned.

This group of muskox had been attacked by a wolf pack?

Chen Wen said, ”It seems... their last hunt ended in failure.”

The old wolf slightly nodded.

As a former pack leader, he could already see that there were issues within the pack now.

The wolf pack was very restless and very hungry!

It seemed they had failed several hunts, obviously due to the new leader’s inexperience.

Regardless of the facts, this was how the old wolf saw it.

Chen Wen, for now, was in no hurry to go down.

Such a sudden change required him to assess the situation clearly from the tree before taking any action.

...

After the wolf pack emerged, they immediately locked their target on the muskox herd.

They were focused on hunting.

And muskoxen, without a doubt, were the best prey.

After spotting the wolf pack, the muskox herd was instantly filled with tension.

It’s a completely different situation from when facing Chen Wen.

They formed a tight formation, protecting the calves and females at the back of the herd.

While the adult males formed a line like a dark wall, facing off against the wolves.

Furthermore, this wall was not only unrivaled in defense, but it also had considerable offensive capability.

The white-tipped horns were enough to tear the bodies of most animals.

”It’s a face-off.”

Up in the tree, Chen Wen turned into a commentator, explaining the situation on the ground to the staff behind the screens.

”This group of North American gray wolves is strong, they have the ability to hunt muskoxen, and they’re very hungry at this point, desperate enough that they can’t afford to let the muskox herd go!”

”But the muskox herd isn’t just soft dough either. This group has some fighting strength, and the number of muskoxen capable of fighting is twice that of the wolf pack. It’s hard to say who will win if they really clash.”

”And I can completely sit on the branch, watch as the tigers and wolves fight, and strike when both are weakened, capitalizing on the situation!”

Chen Wen’s response to the unexpected turn of events was timely.

At this moment, the red fox and wolf mink also arrived.

The wolf mink swiftly climbed up the tree, and the red fox was picked up by Chen Wen.

The eagle fluttered its wings, flying over.

The sky changed with clouds and winds, while the wolves and oxen clashed on the ground.

The atmosphere was quite intense.

”Human, are we just waiting here?”

The wolf mink had heard what Chen Wen just said and asked, ”But we can’t take on that pack of wolves! It’ll be tough to drive them away, won’t it?”

Hearing this, Chen Wen nodded slightly.

Charging in directly wouldn’t work.

But the social structure of wolf packs was strong, and during a previous encounter with a pack of North American gray wolves, Chen Wen managed to take down the leader of the pack, causing the wolves to scatter and flee.

This time, Chen Wen planned to use the same tactic.

He looked at the old wolf and asked, ”Do you remember who the new leader of this pack is?”

”I can never forget.”

The old wolf’s voice was somber as he pointed out the leader of this pack to Chen Wen, ”It’s that one, the strongest one, with gray and white fur.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen immediately identified the leader among the wolves, the head wolf.

Indeed, as the old wolf said, this new leader was extremely robust!

Its size was even larger than the old wolf, and with its four legs on the ground, Chen Wen felt it could reach his waist or abdomen.

If it stood on two legs, it might be as tall as him!

A huge North American gray wolf!

With his target identified, Chen Wen continued to watch the battle.

At this point, the wolf pack and the muskox herd had moved from the standoff phase to a skirmish phase.

Driven by hunger, the head wolf, along with two strong gray wolves, approached the herd.

The short-tempered muskox naturally wouldn’t let them get close.

The large muskox, appearing to be the herd leader, immediately stepped out from the group.

Accompanied by a deep and resounding moo-moo sound.

The large muskox shook its head, its entire coat shivering in the wind like waves in a stormy sea.

It slowly accelerated, aiming its mighty horns at the head wolf, charging fiercely.

This imposing manner, even the head wolf had to temporarily avoid its edge.

It immediately turned and fled.

Using speed to shake off the muskox.

The two followers also fled from this area.

But they didn’t completely run away.

As the large muskox slowly halted, the head wolf quickly turned back, eyeing the muskox herd, selecting the old, weak, and sickly as prey.

Such probing attacks couldn’t prove anything.

On the contrary, they were the wolf pack’s best strategy to exhaust the muskox herd’s strength.

Once the herd leader, the large muskox, felt that it was running out of energy or couldn’t escape.

It would lead the healthy herd members to flee into the distance.

The old, weak, and sickly ones would fall behind during the escape, becoming meals for the wolves.

This was the head wolf’s thinking.

But Chen Wen did not agree with this point.
