Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 582: Chapter 81: Pulling Chestnuts from the Fire

At this point, Chen Wen had seen enough.

”These North American gray wolves came with empty stomachs. They won’t easily give up the meat right in front of them, especially since that old musk ox I wounded can hardly move now. In other words, the wolves are destined to win.”

Chen Wen spoke, his eyes flashing with wisdom.

”So, I plan to move to a new position, to the path the herd is bound to take in their escape. I’ve already noticed that the wolves are forming a circle, but they’ve left a gap. They’re intentionally driving the herd into the forest.”

”North American gray wolves are definitely more agile in the forest than musk oxen, which is why they’re doing this. But for me, it’s good news. I can ambush in the forest and strike when the wolves chase the herd close.”

First kill the old musk ox, then the lead wolf, and eventually take them all!

Chen Wen thought of his plan, a bit excited in his heart.

The plan not working won’t affect much, but if it succeeds, he would at least secure a musk ox and a North American gray wolf!

It’s worth the risk to try!

Chen Wen thought, letting the animals stay on the tree.

Meanwhile, he slowly descended, seizing the time while the wolf pack wears down the oxen’s patience and strength, and headed towards the direction deliberately left open by the wolves.

Blown by the strong wind, Chen Wen couldn’t help but think: Surround three sides, leave one open, this wolf pack is no easy matter; they even understand military tactics!

But no matter how cunning the wolves are, they’ll still end up drinking my foot-washing water!

As long as the wolves dare to chase, my long spear and stone spear will surely teach them the terror of a two-legged ape!

Sneaking all the way, Chen Wen successfully arrived at this side without drawing the wolves’ attention.

He looked around and quickly found a towering tree, climbing up.

A series of stealth-related perks were triggered.

Especially [Tree Assault], which reduces scent and effectively nullified the wolves’ and musk oxen’s strong sense of smell.

It’s now very difficult for them to detect Chen Wen’s presence.

...

Reflecting on Chen Wen’s previous words, behind the screen, Director Greg had already stood up.

”Too risky! It’s like picking chestnuts from the fire!”

He frowned and had already informed the medical team to be ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.

Confronting either a herd of musk oxen or a pack of North American gray wolves is extremely risky for most survivors.

Chen Wen’s current situation is akin to being a fisherman between a group of musk oxen and a pack of North American gray wolves.

This cannot simply be described as a risk anymore.

To Greg, Chen Wen’s actions now seemed like a death wish!

Too much of a death wish!

”Director, do you think he can succeed?”

The chief guide asked.

Greg shook his head, ”I don’t know, but the risk is too great. Honestly, if it were anyone else, I would have stopped them already, but this is Chen Wen. Only then am I allowing him to continue the attempt.”

”But in my experience, even if Chen Wen manages to take action, he might only kill the musk ox, but in the end, he can only watch the wolves eat the musk ox, while he would have no means to do anything. Still, if luck is on his side, he might pick up some meat after the wolves leave.”

But would Chen Wen really wait for the wolves to finish eating, then go to pick up meat?

Greg knew very well that Chen Wen was not that kind of person.

At this time, Lin Jiawei also came over.

He looked at this scene with concern, thinking of the message Liu Yu sent last night.

Liu Yu was very attentive to this wilderness solo stint.

When he heard that Chen Wen intended to hunt from the musk ox herd, he became very worried.

The musk ox herd isn’t any safer than the elephant hunt last time.

Therefore, he specifically instructed Lin Jiawei to make good judgments.

If at any point Chen Wen appears to be in significant danger, immediately have the program team send out a rescue crew.

Lin Jiawei was urging Greg to have the rescue team ready to deploy.

After considering for a moment, Greg agreed to Lin Jiawei’s request.

”Rescue Team One, get ready to board a helicopter to head north of Area Nine and prepare for rescue!”

”Rescue Team One received! We are already on our way!”

...

Along with the rescue team boarding the helicopter.

On Chen Wen’s side, the stalemate between the oxen and the wolves was about to end.

The musk oxen, sensing the change in weather, had no intention of fighting the wolves to the death.

After testing several times, the big musk ox sensed the determination of the North American gray wolves.

It dared not hold on any longer.

If it continued any further, once its stamina was depleted, it was likely to die!

The big musk ox let out a series of howls, starting to lead the herd in retreat.

Witnessing this, the North American gray wolves were thoroughly thrilled.

Several North American gray wolves let out howls of utmost excitement, obviously eager and ready!

And sensing the big musk ox’s intent, the lead wolf also howled excitedly.

Under its leadership, the wolf pack began advancing, forcing the musk oxen to speed up, shedding the old, the weak, and the sick from their group.

At this moment, the old musk ox standing at the rear of the herd felt utterly despaired.

Its leg bled heavily, and standing was barely possible.

Once it started running, it wouldn’t take long before it got left behind, becoming the ”sacrifice” of this migration.

The old musk ox let out a series of wails, as if begging the big musk ox for help.

But animal instincts are inherently selfish; even kin can become ”sacrifices” for survival. How much more for an old, useless stranger in the herd?

The big musk ox showed no hesitation.

With a long bellow, the herd began fleeing in the direction deliberately left by the wolves.

The galloping herd was imposing and full of momentum.

They thundered across the hillside rocks, shaking the ground, and charged towards the forest, escaping.

The wolf pack immediately followed.

They chased with eager howls, exerting pressure.

Under heavy pressure, the old, weak, and sick were more likely to fall behind.

The old musk ox pushed itself to the limit to follow the herd.

Its limited strength rapidly drained as it ran.

Before reaching the edge of the forest, it was already near exhaustion.

Furthermore, in its rear, the stone spear was still deeply embedded.

Each run caused the spear’s sharp edges to grate against the muscles, tearing them further, inflicting more damage.

As it ran, the bleeding quickened, flowing out from the wound.

It couldn’t run any further!

The old musk ox let out a despairing wail.

It slowly stopped, mercilessly abandoned by the herd to the very rear.

Seeing the old musk ox, the wolf pack ceased chasing the herd.

This massive old musk ox was enough to feed the pack for one meal!

The North American gray wolves excitedly surrounded the old musk ox.

However, they didn’t attack immediately.

Even a cornered rabbit fights back, let alone a several hundred kilogram musk ox.

Under the lead of the head wolf, the pack began harassing the musk ox, wearing down its stamina.

Facing the North American gray wolves’ pounces and bites, the old musk ox was like Mr. Ma going into the ring with Tyson, almost unable to fight back.

Soon, under the wolves’ bites, the old musk ox suffered multiple wounds.

Seeing this, Chen Wen, ambushed in the tree, cracked a smile.

Goddammit!

These gray wolves are damn disgusting!

If they keep biting like this, my cowhide carpet is going to be ruined!

No, can’t let the gray wolves ruin it any further.

Chen Wen took out the stone spear. Now he was very close to the wolves and the old musk ox!

The straight-line distance was about twenty meters, a perfect range for an ambush.

With that, Chen Wen stood up on the branch.

He slowly gathered his strength, aiming at the old musk ox’s weak point.

[Giant Strength] activated, the long spear flew out!
