Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 557: Chapter 56: Preparations for Going Out

After this attack, the black bear had no chance to resist.

It was bleeding!

A large amount of blood flowed from the wound, soaking its dark fur.

Fred watched the bloody scene, panting heavily.

Although he managed to conserve some energy, he was still exhausted a lot.

Fred took a deep breath, and as the black bear struggled to escape, he advanced once more.

The tall and strong Fred was like a black tower, suddenly lunging at the black bear.

The black bear, in its final moments, tried to lift its paw for a counterattack, but Fred easily dodged and struck the bear again with his axe.

The black bear crashed to the ground.

It had completely lost the strength to resist.

Fred did not let the black bear suffer long.

He raised the axe high and chopped at the wound on the bear’s neck, cutting its head half off.

What a fierce man!

Seeing such a scene, everyone in the production team was shocked.

Lin Jiawei found this scene strangely familiar.

Chen Wen had also once chopped off a bear’s head like this, but it was an even larger North American grizzly bear!

”This contestant is also very impressive.”

The guide said appreciatively: ”He managed to make a trap to confine the black bear, continuously exhausting it, and finally succeeded despite the arduous process. The scene had impact.”

”And he managed to kill a black bear too, not letting Chen Wen have all the glory, very good!”

Hearing this, Lin Jiawei nodded slightly.

Compared to Chen Wen’s hunting that barely involved confrontation with the bear, Fred’s hunt was indeed more impactful.

But when it comes to whose hunt was more exciting, everyone knew very well that Chen Wen’s hunt was on a dominating level.

After all, Chen Wen appeared very relaxed after his hunt.

Meanwhile, Fred was slumped around the bear, panting rapidly, his heart rate probably off the charts.

After resting for several minutes, Fred struggled to get back on his feet.

Apart from the physical exertion, this hunt was also a significant strain on his will and spirit.

Not everyone could provoke a black bear through a rope net without changing expression.

Only such a fearless Russian lumberjack could do that.

Could Chen Wen also manage this?

Everyone wondered.

But anyhow, the count of a black bear relieved Fred’s food shortage problem.

Though next, when dealing with the bear, everyone felt a noticeable difference in skill.

Unlike Chen Wen, who nearly utilized the entire bear.

Fred’s handling of the bear was quite rough.

Not only did he not use the bear’s organs, but he even damaged the bear’s skin.

He only kept enough leather to make himself bear-skin gloves.

Everyone watching shook their heads at this scene.

”What a waste, if it were Chen Wen here, this bear would’ve been handled much more efficiently.”

”Indeed.”

”Oh well, not everyone is as proficient in everything like Chen Wen. Fred did quite well already.”

”True.”

Everyone discussed while also amazed at the high quality of the contestants this time.

In the past, having even one contestant who could hunt a bear was enough to be shocking.

Usually, only the championship contenders could accomplish such a feat.

This time, two contestants managed the feat of hunting a black bear!

But it’s tough for Fred to fight for the championship!

Chen Wen is currently leading by a wide margin, and the others aren’t far behind each other.

However, the production team staff gave Fred a new nickname: Bear Bro.

...

Meanwhile, at Chen Wen’s side.

He was cooking dinner under the cover of the night.

”A properly processed whitefish, cut into pieces and simmered, with dried rock-ear fungus soaked and cleaned, added to the fish soup, and finally adding a touch of salt.”

Chen Wen shared his temporary recipe: ”Rock-ear Stewed Whitefish! Done!”

Opening the lid of the pot, Chen Wen couldn’t help but add a sound effect: ”Ta-da-da-daaa!”

”Although it doesn’t glow gold, the fish smells delicious!”

Saying this, Chen Wen took out the candy can he had found earlier.

This big jar was now his bowl.

Picking fish and rock-ear with wooden chopsticks into the bowl, he planned to eat the meat first.

He went outside the shelter and called the three animals.

No matter if they were hungry or not, each received a piece of tender white fish.

The Wolf Mink and Red Fox loved the fish, as fish was already part of their diet.

But the old wolf was less interested.

However, once it licked the fish, its eyes widened.

Salt!

This fish had salt!

Being carnivores, they mostly obtain salt from the blood and flesh of animals.

But if they encounter salty rocks, North American wolves would lick stones like herbivores.

However, such salt is low in purity.

This fish was different, a rare ninety-nine percent rarity!

The old wolf didn’t mind that it was hot from the pot and immediately tilted its head to swallow the fish whole.

”Wow, slow down.” Chen Wen said, also squatting at the shelter’s entrance, eating leisurely.

Very soon, as the fish entered the stomach, Chen Wen gained the whitefish entry.

This time, no choices, both entries were bad.

[Cold-water fish (Purple): You are more adaptable to cold water temperatures, able to maintain core body temperature in cold waters, preventing hypothermia, but movements become sluggish in very cold water]

[Note: Really? I’ve managed to survive in such a cold place, why am I still being eaten? - Whitefish]

And the rock-ear fungus had two good entries, but one was quite useless.

Essentially, it was no choice.

[Anti-inflammatory (Blue): Inflammation affects you less]

[Note: Inflammation? Can fungi have inflammation? - Rock-ear]

The rock-ear entry was Chen Wen’s first encounter.

Was it borrowing the medicinal effects of the rock-ear?

Chen Wen couldn’t help but wonder.

Furthermore, if he later had a chance to eat some life-sustaining herbs, would he directly gain longevity?

If really possible, he could totally find some herbs to binge-eat; would he become invincible afterward?

Chen Wen pondered for a bit, finally shaking his head.

Aside from whether he could find herbs in the wild, even if he could, he wouldn’t dare eat them.

After all, many herbs look similar, and if he ate the wrong one, wouldn’t that be the end?

However, many plants have long lifespans; would they have longevity entries?

This dinner ended with Chen Wen’s wild thoughts.

Though after dinner, Chen Wen saw the old wolf start teaching the Wolf Mink and Red Fox how to hunt.

He listened for a while, nodding slightly.

This animal was indeed getting stranger, along with its cunning character.

This old wolf’s hunting awareness was almost catching up with humans.

Additionally, in cooperative hunting, its experience was more extensive.

Under the old wolf’s guidance, the Wolf Mink and Red Fox began to improve too.

Watching them, Chen Wen returned to the shelter, contemplating his plans for the next day.

He planned to venture out for a whole day, searching for animal paths and prey.

Thus, preserving the fire was tonight’s task he needed to handle.

Previously, fire preservation was somewhat challenging for Chen Wen.

But now, through continuous survival, he already had extensive experience in maintaining fire.

This time, Chen Wen used a fire roll to keep the fire.

He rolled some bark, sealed one end with clay, but left some small gaps.

Then placed semi-dry kindling and a small burning wood piece inside.

Finally, sealing the other end with clay, this time completely.

The fire roll was complete.

When in use, remove the clay and lightly blow, and the smoldering kindling inside ignites.

Additionally, one fire roll could be stored for quite a long time.

The fire preservation problem was thus solved.
