Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 577: Chapter 76: Weather

Thud, clink, thud, clink...

Accompanied by a series of peculiar knocking sounds, Chen Wen sped up the crafting.

Before going to sleep, he finally managed to finish crafting twelve spearheads.

After discarding the damaged and unsuitable flints, having twelve complete spearheads was quite a commendable result.

He tidied up the ground of the shelter a bit.

Chen Wen planned to rest.

However, the red fox and old wolf looked at the spearheads Chen Wen had made with lingering interest.

”So amazing! He just tapped the stones and created so many weapons!”

The red fox couldn’t help but exclaim.

Hearing this, the old wolf also nodded.

It glanced at Chen Wen’s hands, unable to resist murmuring in its heart: If I had claws that powerful, combined with my current wits, I would definitely be able to reclaim the leadership of the pack!

But that was just wishful thinking.

The old wolf sighed and walked outside the shelter.

Gazing at the gray sky, it couldn’t help but howl loudly.

That day, after leading the pack to hunt that deer.

Just when it thought it could enjoy the food first, as usual.

The strong male North American gray wolf made its move.

It issued a challenge, targeting the leader of the pack.

The great battle began.

The old wolf tried to intimidate the young North American gray wolf with its momentum, but it didn’t work at all.

When the young and strong North American gray wolf suddenly knocked the old wolf over, the old wolf barely had the strength to resist and was quickly subdued.

Then, it was exiled.

Just when the old wolf was in despair, planning to live out its remaining days in misery,

Chen Wen appeared, bringing wisdom and a new life.

The old wolf’s howl ended; it cast a complex look toward Chen Wen’s shelter and slowly went to rest nearby.

The old wolf is also a wolf with a story!

Listening to the old wolf’s melancholy howl, Chen Wen couldn’t help but sigh.

However, neither the old wolf nor Chen Wen realized that the old wolf’s recent howl would bring severe disaster to the camp!

...

The next day.

Chen Wen began assembling the long spears.

Since there were no ropes and the nearby forest had no vines.

Chen Wen could only use the slender branches of pine trees as a substitute to secure them.

He didn’t just tie them directly; he also treated the pine branches with some processing.

For example, bending them repeatedly to enhance flexibility and so on.

Chen Wen spent the entire morning making long spears.

Meanwhile, the hunting team set off once again to solve their food problem.

At the same time, the eagle returned to take away its leftover rabbit, informing Chen Wen that the muskox herd showed no signs of moving.

”Oh, and one more thing.”

As it was leaving, the eagle told Chen Wen, ”I feel the wind in the air is becoming violent; you should be careful.”

The wind is becoming violent?

Chen Wen paused for a moment.

He went to a nearby high point to observe the weather.

For now, there wasn’t any sign of a weather change.

But looking at the clouds above.

Chen Wen noticed that the thick clouds in the sky these days had thinned out considerably.

Moreover, the clouds’ movement speed had visibly accelerated a lot.

Hmm, could it really be changing?

Chen Wen pondered silently.

Generally speaking, birds are very sensitive to weather changes, especially wind changes.

After all, they rely on such things for their livelihood.

So, in the coming days, he needed to be cautious about strong winds and heavy rainfall.

After noting this down,

Chen Wen returned to the camp and placed a piece of tree bark in a corner of the shelter.

He then used charcoal to draw a few wavy lines on the bark, symbolizing windy weather.

After doing all this, Chen Wen nodded with satisfaction.

This memo wasn’t bad, plus, today, I still need to process the snow hare and find an opportunity to acquire the entry.

The remaining food also needed to be smoked.

Considering the current amount of work, Chen Wen once again used the Pomodoro Technique.

He started addressing these tasks with high efficiency.

A day passed.

Chen Wen completed half of the long spears, and the snow hares and remaining rabbits were placed in the smokehouse for smoking.

Meanwhile, he also checked on the thorn net.

But there was no catch in the thorn net.

This made Chen Wen feel a bit regretful.

...

Another day.

Chen Wen was still busy crafting stone spears and processing the prey the wolf mink brought back yesterday.

Worth mentioning is that the wolf mink only came back last night.

With the wisdom of the old wolf and the red fox, along with the fierce combat instincts of the wolf mink, they were reigning supreme outside!

Of course, this might be a bit exaggerated.

But judging from the confident declaration of the old wolf and wolf mink when they came back at night, indicating that Chen Wen need not provide food anymore, it wasn’t hard to see how efficient they had been in hunting outside.

While they were self-sufficient, the wolf mink also brought back a fat Arctic hare and two ground squirrels.

Chen Wen had already acquired the entry for ground squirrels, so he wasn’t particularly concerned.

However, Chen Wen reminded them, ”Ground squirrels usually store some nuts and such in their dens. If you have the time, you can take the stoat and have a look.”

The stoat’s slender body made it easy to enter the ground squirrels’ nest.

This suggestion piqued the interest of the old wolf and the others. In the morning, taking along a sleepy stoat, they quickly headed out.

Last night, Chen Wen had also used North American porcupine quills and rabbit skins to craft a small rabbit-skin pouch.

He instructed the old wolf to fill it with nuts.

Overall, Chen Wen didn’t need to worry about the old wolf’s side anymore.

After gaining wisdom and learning teamwork, they had turned into diligent workers.

Chen Wen only needed to ensure proper logistical support for them, and they would continuously bring him prey.

Just like Hua Yun during the Yukon period.

That day, Chen Wen continued crafting long spears, processing the rabbits brought back by the wolf mink, and upgrading the components of the shelter.

The bed and the notice board were already there.

Chen Wen thought for a moment and then used a saw and the previously processed rabbit skins to make a wooden pillow.

He sawed down a spruce tree and cut out a rectangular wooden block, then laid some soft pine needles on top of it.

Finally, it was wrapped with rabbit fur.

To avoid the pine needles pricking his head, Chen Wen specially wrapped it with two layers.

After all, he had plenty of rabbit skins, showing a bit of indulgent attitude.

That night, the wolf mink and others returned cheerfully.

They brought back the ground squirrels’ stored food, two Arctic hares, and a drowsy stoat for Chen Wen.

Goodness, were they forcibly adjusting the stoat’s biological clock?

Chen Wen couldn’t help but joke.

After letting the stoat rest in the shelter, Chen Wen checked the rabbit-skin pouch and rummaged through the ground squirrels’ stored food.

”No nuts, alas, but these red berries... are they lingonberries?”

Lingonberries, a type of berry distributed around the Arctic, are quite common and edible.

However, the berry season was a bit early, and these lingonberries were already quite shriveled.

Chen Wen selected some, kept the edible lingonberries, and casually ate one.
