Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 569: Chapter 68: Daily Camp Routine

The next morning.

After Chen Wen got up, he checked the state of the smoke furnace.

The fish and rabbit meat were both smoked dry and cooked, ready to eat or store as provisions.

As Chen Wen took out the smoked meat, the Short-tailed Weasel eagerly found Chen Wen and said, ”Hey, human! You have so many mice here!”

Hearing this, Chen Wen laughed and said, ”Of course, did you fill your belly last night?”

”Stuffed!”

The Short-tailed Weasel said.

These days, as Chen Wen stored food, the scent attracted mice from miles around.

Even his dried fruits were a favorite of the mice.

If it weren’t for the lack of energy at night, Chen Wen would have dealt with this horde of mice himself.

Speaking of mice, Chen Wen advised the Short-tailed Weasel: ”Next time, if you catch more mice, remember to leave one or two and not eat them. Then I’ll trade you fresh meat for them.”

Mice don’t interest Chen Wen much, as he currently has enough food supplies.

But he’s very interested in casually eating some to enhance his stats.

Hearing this, the Short-tailed Weasel nodded, indicating he understood.

At this moment, the Wolf Mink and Red Fox approached.

The two animals received their breakfast of pike from Chen Wen and ate them eagerly before heading out to hunt.

Since Chen Wen did not need to go hunting today, the North American Gray Wolf went along with them.

On one hand, to guide the cooperation of the Wolf Mink and Red Fox in hunting, and on the other hand, it also needed to go hunting and eat something.

It doesn’t particularly like fish meat.

Finally, after the Short-tailed Weasel burrowed into the shelter to sleep, only Chen Wen and the Eagle were left active in the camp.

”You...”

Looking at the Eagle, Chen Wen thought for a moment and said, ”Do you remember the place we encountered yesterday?”

The Eagle nodded slightly upon hearing this.

”Go check the forest over there, if there are dead rabbits or trapped rabbits, let me know when you come back.”

Chen Wen said.

The Eagle flew straight over, it wouldn’t take long, assigning it to check traps was reliable.

The Eagle remembered Chen Wen’s command and flew away.

As the last animal left, only Chen Wen remained in the camp.

Chen Wen looked around and felt there were a few things to do in the morning.

One was routine camp maintenance: collecting firewood, fetching water, cleaning.

Additionally, Chen Wen planned to build a bed.

Food is still quite abundant, and the traps are still effective.

He planned to build a bed to improve his quality of life.

Sleeping on the ground every day can be endured for a short time, but if he really sleeps like this for a hundred days, he wouldn’t be able to stand it.

Besides that.

Chen Wen intended to process some of the animal leather he had previously stored to see if he could make some small items.

For example, those stored rabbit skins could be made into gloves or hats.

Speaking of gloves, the outer skin of the bear paws he had cleaned earlier, Chen Wen had also thrown into the shelter, almost forgetting about them.

”Today’s task is clear, fill in the gaps and solve the previously overlooked minor tasks.”

Chen Wen said as he started to get busy.

...

As Chen Wen busied himself with work.

The Wolf Mink, Red Fox, and Old Wolf formed a strange combination.

The Wolf Mink took the lead, relying on its strong sense of smell to search for prey.

The Old Wolf was in the middle, following the Wolf Mink and vigilantly observing the surroundings.

The alert Red Fox was at the rear, following the Old Wolf while also being cautious of any movements behind.

This was the walking strategy chosen by the Old Wolf under Chen Wen’s advice.

The most powerful Wolf Mink led the way, and the most vigilant Red Fox acted as the rear guard.

Whether they discovered prey or encountered danger, they could react immediately.

After walking for half an hour.

”I smell something, it’s a rabbit!”

The Wolf Mink stopped, looked at the Old Wolf and said, ”Old Wolf, what should we do?”

Since Chen Wen suggested the Wolf Mink follow the instructions of the Old Wolf and Red Fox, the Wolf Mink had completely given up on thinking.

The Old Wolf cautiously asked, ”Is it far? Are there any other animals?”

The Wolf Mink shook its head: ”I didn’t smell any other animals, but it might be because I can’t smell them.”

”As for the distance, it’s not far, we’ll be there soon!”

Upon hearing this, the Old Wolf looked at the Red Fox: ”What do you think?”

The Red Fox’s eyes flickered: ”Let’s take a look, if there’s no danger then let’s act!”

The two brains made a decision, and the small group began their action.

Soon, led by the Wolf Mink.

The hunting group came to a bush.

The Red Fox stuck its head out from beneath the bushes, the Wolf Mink was above the Red Fox’s head, and the North American Gray Wolf extended its head above the Wolf Mink’s.

Three animals, their heads stacked, observing the situation ahead.

The Red Fox spoke first, lightly asking, ”Did you see the situation ahead? I can only see shadows...”

Upon hearing this, the Wolf Mink nodded: ”It’s a rabbit, but it’s different from the ones we encountered before.”

The Old Wolf added: ”Those were long-legged rabbits, they often gather in groups, larger and more meaty, but these are short-legged rabbits, they only flock during the coldest or just warming periods, usually acting alone, small with less meat.”

This made the Wolf Mink frown: ”Shall we ignore it then? Not enough meat for us to eat!”

”Haha, meat is meat regardless!”

The Old Wolf glanced at the Wolf Mink and couldn’t help but laugh.

This guy is still young and hasn’t experienced much.

When belly hunger truly hits, not only rabbits with little meat, but even bones without meat, one must chew and swallow to replenish energy.

North American Gray Wolves live relatively long, in the wild for seven or eight years, in captivity they can live seventeen or eighteen years with no problem.

While Wolf Minks have much shorter lives.

They typically live five or six years.

This Wolf Mink has only lived for a little over two years, compared to the seven or eight years of the Old Wolf, it’s indeed just a child.

Upon hearing this, the Red Fox did not oppose.

It doesn’t refuse meat that comes its way.

The Old Wolf thought for a moment and devised a plan with the Red Fox.

The Red Fox and Wolf Mink slowly maneuvered to the side of this unfamiliar rabbit, while the Old Wolf remained in place, waiting for the signal from the Red Fox and Wolf Mink.

A moment later, with the Red Fox and Wolf Mink spraying scented liquid one after another, the Old Wolf let out a howl.

The three animals simultaneously launched an attack.

The rabbit, surrounded by the three animals, heard the Old Wolf’s howl and instinctively tried to escape in the opposite direction.

But before it could run a few steps, the Wolf Mink lunged from the shadows of the bushes!

It snarled fiercely and pounced on the rabbit.

The rabbit quickly dodged.

It was too fast!

The Wolf Mink missed and felt puzzled.

This rabbit was different from the one they had encountered before!

How come it’s so quick?

Before the Wolf Mink could react, the rabbit turned and fled.

With the Wolf Mink on this side, and the Old Wolf behind, the rabbit instinctively ran towards the quietest side to escape.

But it didn’t know the Red Fox was already lying in ambush in the bushes.

As the rabbit swiftly approached, the Red Fox suddenly pounced out.

It let out a sharp cry, pinning the rabbit to the ground.

Then, the Red Fox opened its narrow mouth and bit down on the rabbit’s body.

Meanwhile, the Wolf Mink rushed over and locked its mouth around the rabbit’s neck as it struggled.

By the time the Old Wolf hobbled over, the rabbit was already bitten to death by the Wolf Mink.

”Not bad, a little mistake, but didn’t affect the big picture.”

The Old Wolf happily remarked.

The Wolf Mink released its grip on the rabbit’s neck, proudly glancing at the Old Wolf: ”Am I amazing?”

The Old Wolf smiled without answering but instructed the Red Fox: ”Put it on my back, let’s continue looking for food, gather more and head back together.”
