Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 561: Chapter 60: Making Lunch for the Wolf Mink

The wolf mink’s sense of smell is clearly useful in finding prey.

By noon, it had found another rabbit warren.

However, this time the rabbits were not in large numbers, nor were they in a flock.

They were scattered throughout a valley.

There were about twenty of them in total.

Chen Wen watched for a while, then set up the remaining traps at the only exit of the valley.

With this, all the traps were set.

However, this time the areas where the traps were placed were quite far apart, so Chen Wen planned to check the traps over the next two days.

Subsequently, he would check one area per day to avoid unnecessary trips.

After setting all the traps, Chen Wen didn’t rush back.

He found a piece of bluestone to sit on and rest, while having lunch.

The wolf mink looked at Chen Wen eagerly from the side.

Noticing the wolf mink’s gaze, Chen Wen slapped his forehead.

”Oops! I forgot to bring you food!”

Upon hearing this, the wolf mink’s face fell dramatically.

It looked at Chen Wen with an aggrieved expression, almost on the verge of tears.

Wasn’t there supposed to be food and lodging included?

Seeing the wolf mink’s expression, Chen Wen shook his head helplessly, ”Don’t look at me like that. I truly forgot to bring the food this morning. But don’t worry, since I didn’t bring food, I’ll take you hunting later.”

Hearing this, the wolf mink brightened up, ”Alright, alright, hunting! We haven’t coordinated before, have we?”

Chen Wen nodded with a smile, ”Rest assured, hunting with me will be easy and enjoyable. Just watch me!”

After eating, Chen Wen didn’t rest long.

He asked the wolf mink to find prey.

With its keen sense of smell, the wolf mink quickly locked onto its desired food—the Arctic hare.

This group of Arctic hares was foraging on a large forest clearing.

Chen Wen and the wolf mink could see them clearly from the hillside.

”This group, about thirty or so, is quite a large number for this time,” Chen Wen said, looking at the wolf mink, ”We’ll work together, and I’ll take the lead.”

”Later, I’ll hide behind a large tree, and you drive this group of Arctic hares from the other side towards my area. Try to get them to pass under the tree, and that’ll be all you need to do. Just wait to eat the meat afterward.”

Driving the Arctic hares to a specified place was not difficult for the wolf mink.

”But the only thing to keep in mind is that this group of Arctic hares is congregated, and they’re braver when in groups. You need to be more fierce,” Chen Wen cautioned.

Arctic hares are different from most rabbits; they are bold!

Especially when they are in a group.

Moreover, they have sharp claws and even eat meat. Sometimes a group of Arctic hares can even scare off red foxes.

This was something Chen Wen heard from a red fox.

However, that usually happens in winter.

Due to the scarcity of food in winter, Arctic hares spontaneously group together for survival.

Listening to Chen Wen’s instructions, the wolf mink nodded slightly, understanding the plan.

After they discussed some details, Chen Wen began to look for a suitable tree as his hiding place.

The wolf mink followed him, waiting until Chen Wen found an appropriate tree and concealed himself.

Only then did the wolf mink circle to the other side of the Arctic hares and start driving them.

Up in the tree.

Chen Wen watched the wolf mink take its position and slowly raised the long spear, with one leg braced against the trunk and the other on a branch, ready to exert force.

He was prepared to attack the Arctic hares with the spear.

Meanwhile, the entries ’Night Shadow’ and ’Tree Assault’ were triggered, dispersing Chen Wen’s scent in the wind, making it vanish into the air.

His silhouette also gradually blurred.

Entries like ’Red-Nosed Rudolph’, ’Little Ears’, ’Night Vision’, and ’Extreme Vision’ intensified his senses.

Enhancing his olfactory, visual, and auditory perception abilities.

Now, he could smell more scents, like the scent of rabbits.

When the scent was strong, it indicated the rabbits were nearby.

The visual boost allowed him to lock onto the rabbits’ location through the gaps in the forest.

Enhanced hearing helped him gauge the rabbits’ distance from the sound of their feet on the leaves.

In short, Chen Wen was perched on the tree with all his abilities activated.

Like an assassin hidden in the shadows, waiting for the prey to present itself.

...

Meanwhile, the wolf mink quickly began its driving task.

It approached the group of rabbits, making threatening noises.

Upon hearing the commotion, the Arctic hares assumed a defensive posture.

Seeing the wolf mink, the Arctic hares were nervous but did not flee immediately.

Some adult Arctic hares gathered together, emitting a unique scent to warn the oblivious companions of danger.

Other hares hissed at the wolf mink, warning it not to approach.

Otherwise, they’d show the wolf mink how a rabbit bites!

Witnessing this, the wolf mink was surprised.

These little things were trying to resist?

Did they really think the wolf mink wasn’t a wolf?

The wolf mink bared its fangs, exposing sharp canine teeth.

Seeing this, the hares immediately showed fear.

Had they known it had those, they would’ve run sooner!

With a powerful lunge, the rabbits initially united to resist the wolf mink broke apart and scattered.

They fled in a frenzy, away from the wolf mink.

The wolf mink didn’t chase them swiftly. Instead, it trailed leisurely behind, attempting to steer them.

Felt the wolf mink’s threat, the hares quickened their pace.

They soon distanced themselves from the wolf mink.

The hares sighed in relief, feeling they had escaped the danger.

But as they reached a tree, their real danger began!

...

Above, on the tree!

Seeing the arrival of the hares, a smirk appeared on Chen Wen’s lips.

Well done, wolf mink!

He slowly raised the long spear, triggering ’Giant Strength’.

As Chen Wen twisted his waist, power perfectly transmitted through his muscles into the spear.

The long spear launched accurately, hitting a slightly distant Arctic hare.

At a direct distance of about ten meters from Chen Wen, an Arctic hare was pierced by the spear, pinned to the ground.

As the spear flew out, Chen Wen jumped from the tree.

The core enhancement effect of ’Tree Assault’ activated as he adjusted his body mid-air.

In the air, he arched his back like a large cat, limbs downward.

He landed lightly on the ground, unhurt.

Simultaneously, ’Swift’ and ’Agile Posture’ enhanced his speed and responsiveness.

Quickly, his left hand reached out, grabbing an Arctic hare passing under the tree.

His right hand quickly swung back, feeling a furry mass at his fingertips.

His hand formed a fist, and ’Giant Strength’ activated again.

With a powerful punch, using his flexible spine, Chen Wen twisted his body, landing a direct blow on the Arctic hare, sending it flying.

Utilizing his speed-enhancing abilities, Chen Wen swiftly caught up with the hare, stomping on it.

A crunching sound was heard.

With the sound of breaking bones underfoot, the Arctic hare was as dead as it could be!

Facing the sudden assault, the other hares reacted quickly, scattering in all directions.

However, Chen Wen stepped on one, clutched another in his left hand, and a third was pinned by the spear not far away.

In just a few seconds, Chen Wen had subdued all three Arctic hares!

Amazing!

All the animals watching this scene, including the humans behind the cameras, were stunned.
