Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 568: Chapter 67: Establishing Rules

”I have been thinking about how to set a rule for our camp.”

Chen Wen went straight to the point: ”After all, we humans have an old saying that there can be no stability without rules.”

”The six of us animals need to cooperate, leverage our strengths, and abide by the camp rules if we want to survive in this brutal forest.”

Seeing Chen Wen’s serious demeanor, the animals stopped messing around and all looked at Chen Wen attentively.

Their attitudes were quite good.

After all, the five animals present had witnessed Chen Wen’s strength.

Moreover, Chen Wen had abundant food.

This was the fundamental reason why they followed Chen Wen’s orders.

Chen Wen continued, ”First of all, rule number one, you must pay attention, no fighting over food is allowed in the camp! This rule is simple; if you’re hungry, come to me. Do not snatch food from other animals, understand?”

As he said this, Chen Wen glanced at the Wolf Mink.

This rule was particularly aimed at the Wolf Mink.

The animals nodded, all agreeing.

However, just as Chen Wen was about to mention the second rule, the old wolf asked, ”What if the food isn’t enough?”

Chen Wen smiled and said, ”It won’t be, because my second rule addresses this.”

”The second rule, I will provide food three times a day; if I’m not around at noon, then twice. But this food will only ensure you’re not hungry. If you want to be full or even stuffed, you have to work.”

”Working is simple. Take the stoat for example.”

Chen Wen picked up the stoat and brought it in front of the other animals.

It was then that the red fox noticed it.

Such a small thing!

Thought the red fox and the North American gray wolf.

Chen Wen gently petted the stoat’s back to calm it down, then said, ”The stoat rests during the day and works at night. Its job is to ensure that the camp’s food isn’t stolen by mice. Also, at night, the stoat will keep watch around the camp; that’s its job.”

Upon hearing this, the stoat proudly said, ”Don’t worry, with me around, our food will definitely not be stolen by mice!”

When it came to catching mice, the stoat considered itself unmatched!

The animals nodded.

”The other animals’ jobs are either to guard the camp’s food and protect the camp’s safety, or to hunt.”

Chen Wen said, ”I hunt alone, and although I can meet everyone’s needs, it’s often unstable, so I need your assistance in hunting. For example, Eagle, your task is to follow me and help search for food.”

The eagle nodded reservedly; it liked this task very much!

Hearing this, the Wolf Mink pouted, ”What about me?”

It had thought Chen Wen would keep taking it hunting.

Chen Wen said helplessly, ”You and the red fox can hunt together. You two have cooperated before, and taking you along wastes manpower since we’re both ground hunters.”

Hearing this, the Wolf Mink didn’t say more.

Nonetheless, Chen Wen added, ”Later, when the old wolf heals, it will join me for an external hunt. I need an animal to help drive out prey.”

The old wolf nodded, ”No problem, I can go out with you tomorrow. In this forest, most animals will run away when they see me, except for a few.”

Chen Wen nodded.

This was the main reason Chen Wen brought the old wolf onboard.

Just standing there, this guy could scare off most animals.

Compared to the old wolf, the Wolf Mink had slightly less intimidation power.

After discussing these little things, Chen Wen looked at the red fox and Wolf Mink: ”You will cooperate in hunting, and if you encounter a situation you can’t handle, remember to tell me or the old wolf. The two of us will help you solve it.”

The red fox and Wolf Mink nodded.

After the second rule, it was time for the third rule.

”The third rule is actually quite simple.”

Chen Wen said with a smile, ”Any animal that comes to our camp is a friend. So, you must live in harmony, support each other, and if there’s a conflict, tell me, and I’ll help you resolve it. What do you think?”

Three rules, in summary:

Do not fight over food, work to eat more, live harmoniously, and support each other.

After hearing Chen Wen’s words, the animals thought for a moment.

Soon, the North American gray wolf was the first to say, ”I agree!”

The red fox was second: ”I agree too.”

The eagle and stoat said in unison: ”I agree!”

Finally, the Wolf Mink muttered, ”As long as I don’t go hungry for too long, I agree!”

Great!

Chen Wen nodded with satisfaction and brought out a whole dogfish.

According to the animals’ sizes, Chen Wen cut off the fish’s head and tossed it to the Wolf Mink.

This guy had eaten enough today, finishing the dogfish head would suffice.

The Wolf Mink didn’t object; it wasn’t hungry now.

The old wolf didn’t want fish; it had caught a whole Arctic hare for itself and some fish entrails.

The red fox got nearly a pound of raw fish meat, enough to fill it up.

The stoat didn’t want food; it smelled the scent of mice, and after reporting to Chen Wen, it began searching for mice tracks around the camp.

The eagle didn’t want any dogfish meat and instead took the remaining fish entrails.

Seeing this, Chen Wen didn’t say much.

He cut the other two dogfish into pieces and, along with a processed Arctic hare he brought back, placed them in the smoke oven.

He lit a fire and added pine needles and twigs.

After a night of smoking, he planned to store this food.

Part of the dogfish he had already cut into large pieces, intending to boil them.

This thing had a strong fishy smell, and Chen Wen didn’t have anything to remove the odor.

After thinking for a while, he threw in some pine needles to see how it would go.

Additionally, a porcupine with fur was skewered by Chen Wen with a long spear, placed in the fireplace to roast.

As thick smoke billowed from the smoke pipe, Chen Wen burned the fur off the porcupine cleanly.

He scraped off the black stuff on the porcupine skin with a hunting knife. Chen Wen planned to stew it for a meal tomorrow noon.

A nice meal of porcupine meat.

Soon, as the dogfish cooked, Chen Wen enjoyed a late dinner before dawn.

The dogfish was, as Chen Wen expected, quite fishy in taste.

However, for Chen Wen, it was still within an acceptable range.

Ravaging the dogfish meat, Chen Wen even had the mood to speak to the camera: ”The texture isn’t bad, all clove meat, has small spines, but not too many, it’s okay.”

”Before I came here, I ate a braised dogfish at a local restaurant; it tasted pretty good because they removed the fishy smell, but now eating it, I guess I can swallow it.”

Hearing this, Lin Jiawei, behind the camera, silently shook his head.

This stuff, most people definitely can’t swallow!

After eating the dogfish meat, Chen Wen also obtained its entry.

This fierce underwater predator provided Chen Wen with a decent entry.
