Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 578: Chapter 77: Lingonberry

The taste of lingonberries is pretty decent.

Sour and sweet.

Probably because the moisture had dried out, the lingonberries Chen Wen ate were mostly sweet.

Delicious!

Chen Wen chewed and swallowed them whole.

After eating, Chen Wen looked at the traits that popped up from the lingonberries.

With a glance, Chen Wen was immediately drawn to the second trait.

[Targeting natural creation - lingonberries, to plunder!]

[Plundering... Plundering complete!]

[Please choose one of the following three traits]

[Fear of Aphids (Purple): You are more prone to attracting bites from aphids, and your vitality decreases after being bitten]

[Note: Damn aphids! Keep them away! They’re about to bite me! --Lingonberry]

[Resilient (Gold): You are as resilient as an indestructible bug in various survival environments, enhancing willpower, survival ability, and resource acquisition ability. Ability enhancement effects increase with the harshness of the environment]

[Note: We are not afraid of drought, cold, or shade, capable of settling in barren mountains, remote places, or stone crevices, and can also establish ourselves in courtyards, in front of houses, or on balconies! --Lingonberry]

[Regeneration (Blue): Enhances the body’s regenerative ability, but severe injuries like amputations cannot be restored]

[Note: A will of steel can nurture a body like steel! --Lingonberry]

[Please make a choice within one minute, or pass! If overdue, the first trait will be chosen automatically!]

The two positive traits of the lingonberries are quite powerful!

Chen Wen looked carefully; although [Regeneration] isn’t as strong as [Resilient].

But this trait targets the enhancement of muscle injury recovery, making it quite a good trait.

It’s just a pity it met [Resilient].

Otherwise, Chen Wen would have definitely chosen this trait.

[Resilient], what a good trait!

Chen Wen decisively chose this trait, but after activating it, he didn’t feel much of an improvement.

It seems that the Great Slave Lake, not yet fully into winter, isn’t such a harsh environment.

Chen Wen couldn’t help but think.

But it’s no problem; right now, he indeed doesn’t feel any urgency.

After choosing the trait, Chen Wen continued rummaging through the things in his bag.

But the remaining items were of no use.

The only thing useful was some dry grass, very dry, to be kept for use as tinder.

But with the current state of Chen Wen’s shelter, plus that impregnable fireplace.

Unless he accidentally knocked over the pot and poured a large pot of water into the fireplace.

Otherwise, this fire could not be extinguished!

But Chen Wen still considered such small probability accidents, reserving plenty of tinder and dry firewood.

After clearing out the useless things left.

Chen Wen looked towards the hunting small group.

”Today, I want to tell you, I’m ready to hunt musk oxen!”

Hearing these words, the animals instantly became excited.

Hunting musk oxen, for them, is not only about getting a large amount of food but also a massive confidence boost for the team.

Though Chen Wen is the main force.

However, Chen Wen is considered a member of the small group, at least that’s what the animals think.

”This afternoon, I finished making all the stone spears.”

Chen Wen showed his creations to the camera and the animals: ”Stone spears, twelve of them, each sharp, easily piercing through ordinary animal hides.”

As if to prove his point.

Chen Wen aimed at the rabbit brought back by the wolf mink and easily threw the long spear, hitting the target precisely.

”See, I told you they’re very sharp.”

He lifted the long spear, showing the pierced rabbit.

Indeed sharp!

Seeing this scene, including the program staff behind the camera, they were all shocked.

”It seems Chen Wen is indeed going to hunt musk oxen!”

”One man against an entire herd! No matter the outcome, this courage is enough to command our respect!”

”He’s so powerful!”

The contestant’s assistants spared no words of praise, their compliments pouring out as if free of cost.

”But do be cautious!”

A hunter guide with rich hunting experience said: ”Musk oxen, especially the herd, are extremely aggressive, I suggest, just a suggestion, ha, that the medical team be prepared.”

No one opposed this.

After all, accidents happen everywhere.

Finally, the program group ensured protection for Chen Wen’s upcoming hunt.

...

After displaying the stone spears, Chen Wen didn’t set a specific time for the hunt.

He meant to wait a bit longer.

That old musk ox doesn’t have much time left, and if it can be naturally dead by then, that would be the best.

But it wasn’t long.

The eagle responsible for monitoring the musk oxen flew close, flapping its wings out of the forest.

Before it even landed, the eagle’s somewhat anxious voice sounded, ”Not good! Not good!”

What’s not good?

Chen Wen hastily thought, could it be that the musk ox herd plans to migrate?

Damn it!

How could it be this coincidental?

But what the eagle said wasn’t about the herd migrating.

It anxiously said, ”Strong wind! A very strong wind! I sense a big wind! It might start tomorrow!”

”I’m afraid of being blown away by the wind, so I won’t be able to move outside next.

The eagle has a nest, but it’s a bit far from the camp.

It is currently living with Chen Wen, sleeping in the shelter.

But so far, it hasn’t slept there many times.

Hearing the eagle’s words, Chen Wen’s brow immediately furrowed.

This news is indeed bad.

His shelter is fine, unaffected; his traps are also not greatly impacted, but the thorn nets will be affected by strong winds. If large winds blow, the thorn nets will need to be brought ashore or even retracted.

After all, winds capable of making the eagle so concerned, not daring to go out, certainly won’t be small!

Simultaneously, the coming of wind often accompanies a worsening of the weather.

If heavy rain, or even snow, falls.

The musk oxen might leave this area.

Therefore, waiting to hunt musk oxen is no longer possible.

If they leave during the windy days, going to the highlands, Chen Wen feels like he’d cry to death.

Therefore.

He hesitated no longer and decided without waiting.

Chen Wen seriously said, ”In that case, before bad weather arrives, tomorrow morning, we’ll go hunt musk oxen!”

”Alright!”

Wolf mink, the old wolf, and the red fox all said at the same time, with rather confident tones.

And the eagle, after hesitating, also joined the hunt.

”The wind won’t be particularly strong tomorrow morning, it’s worth trying.”

The eagle muttered.

If it were the afternoon, it definitely wouldn’t go out!

...

The next early morning.

Just after getting up, Chen Wen felt something off.

The weather indeed worsened!

There’s wind, but not very strong.

However, the temperature has dropped significantly.

”The temperature, has it dropped below freezing?”

Chen Wen muttered.

A few days ago, even in the morning, the temperature never dropped below zero.

Roughly around a few degrees.

But today is different; he clearly felt a bit of chill.

The cold resistance traits [Cold Resistance], [Proud Snow and Frost], [Environmental Adaptation], [Resilient] were all activated.

Chen Wen suddenly became much warmer.

He picked up the long spear and the twelve stone spears he crafted, taking a deep breath.

Today’s trip, he might return empty-handed, or worse, get injured.

Or, he might strike it rich!

For the upcoming time, he won’t need to worry about food anymore!

The current survival time has just reached twenty days, considered the early second phase.

But if he can kill a musk ox this time, Chen Wen would complete seventy percent of the second phase task directly!

After that, he would simply need to routinely check traps and fishing nets to store enough food to last until the end of the survival!

Swallowing the smoked bear meat in large bites.

Chen Wen walked out of the shelter and exchanged glances with the four animals prepared long ago—wolf mink, red fox, North American grey wolf, and eagle.

”Let’s go!”
