Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 567: Chapter 66: Processing the Prey

Chen Wen exerted a great deal of effort to drag the pine wood to the shore.

He pulled the thorn net out of the water.

And on the thorn net, three large, shiny white fish caught the eyes of the Wolf Mink and the Eagle.

”What big fish!”

Even the Eagle couldn’t help but say.

White pike is a large, aggressive carnivorous fish, and they grow quite large in the wild.

These three white pike were very large, and all were adult specimens.

Their lengths were about the same, around one meter!

A meter-long fish!

Chen Wen weighed the white pike, conservatively estimating the heaviest one at twenty-five kilograms!

”Too big!”

He happily removed the three fish from the thorn net.

Misjudged this place!

Actually, our choice was spot-on!

Chen Wen’s mouth involuntarily curled upwards, and he said to the camera, ”I always thought choosing this spot to set the net was not very suitable, but who knew it wasn’t unsuitable, just untimely. Now that the timing is right, look! Three big fish!”

”These three fish, if eaten sparingly, are enough food for me for about ten days! But I have to leave some for the animals, so it won’t last very long.”

Saying this, Chen Wen was a bit helpless.

The more tamed animals there are, the more work they can do, and the more at ease he is.

But the food consumption is really unbearable!

Not to mention anything else, just with the Wolf Mink by his side, if it really let loose, these three fish wouldn’t last long.

Let alone that I also have the red fox, the North American gray wolf, and the Eagle.

The appetite of these three is probably not small either!

But in any case, these three white pike have greatly alleviated my current food pressure.

Chen Wen used a piece of clothing as a towel, wiped the water off his body, and then put the clothes back on.

After getting dressed, he took out his hunting knife and sat by the water to start processing this catch.

First was the North American porcupine.

Chen Wen planned to keep this guy’s quills.

He used the clothes just retrieved, wrapped them around his hand, and began pulling out the quills.

Moments later, Chen Wen had removed all the porcupine’s quills.

As for the porcupine’s fur, Chen Wen hadn’t dealt with it yet.

This time, he intended to roast the whole porcupine, burn off the fur, and preserve as much fat as possible.

However, the porcupine’s internal organs were removed by Chen Wen.

He used a hunting knife to start from the porcupine’s wound, cutting open the abdomen.

He removed all the internal organs and divided them between the Eagle and the Wolf Mink.

”Half for each of you, don’t fight.”

Upon hearing this, the Wolf Mink and the Eagle obediently divided the food and then started eating with big bites.

The stoat was still sleeping in his pocket, and Chen Wen didn’t wake it.

While the Wolf Mink and Eagle ate the meat,

Chen Wen began processing the white pike.

He used the hunting knife to scrape the scales off the three pike.

This process was quite laborious.

When the Wolf Mink and the Eagle finished their meal, Chen Wen had barely finished scraping the scales off the second white pike.

After resting for a while, he continued working.

After scraping off the scales, Chen Wen used the hunting knife to cut open the abdomen of one white pike.

He scooped out all the internal organs.

During processing, Chen Wen realized that the white pike might not taste very good.

Because they were extremely fishy!

Compared to eelpout, the fishiness was as bad, if not worse!

And the texture of the meat seemed just ordinary, looking quite dry.

In any case, Chen Wen thought it better to let the animals eat the fish rather than himself.

After all, they weren’t picky about such things.

But Chen Wen still wanted to pursue some quality of life and food quality.

...

When Chen Wen returned to the camp with the newly joined animals, it was already evening.

”Back already?”

Before Chen Wen reached the camp, the red fox slowly poked its head out from the dark bushes.

”Yeah, how’s the camp? Safe?”

Seeing the red fox, Chen Wen felt pretty good.

The red fox nodded, ”Old Wolf is here, no animals dare come close.”

The elderly North American gray wolf had accepted the title of Old Wolf.

”Where is it?”

Chen Wen looked around the camp, but for a moment, he didn’t see the Old Wolf’s figure.

The red fox explained, ”Old Wolf was hungry and went out to find something to eat.”

Just then, the Eagle flapped down with its wings.

Seeing the Eagle, the red fox quickly withdrew its head.

Chen Wen didn’t immediately introduce the Eagle since Old Wolf wasn’t around; it’d be better to introduce them together when it returned.

So he gestured for the red fox to follow him.

Although wary, upon receiving Chen Wen’s signal, the red fox emerged from the hidden bushes.

However, it watched the Eagle cautiously, afraid that it might pose a threat if it suddenly attacked.

At this point, the Wolf Mink acted as the introducer.

It was familiar with the red fox and the Eagle both.

Through the Wolf Mink’s introduction, the two animals gradually got acquainted.

...

Chen Wen squeezed into the shelter and took out the stoat from his pocket.

This little guy was quite curious about Chen Wen’s shelter after being put on the ground.

”Is this your nest?”

”Yes, you can stay here too, but you can’t relieve yourself inside,”

Chen Wen casually instructed the stoat, then took out the fire starter.

The fire starter had not gone out yet.

Chen Wen cleared away the sealing clay, then blew into the central gap.

Orange sparks blazed up with a whoosh.

Chen Wen put the kindling from the fire starter onto the tinder and blew again, and the flames surged up at once.

He placed the tinder into the fireplace, then added firewood.

The fireplace, cold all day, warmed up again.

”How amazing!”

The stoat watched as Chen Wen easily ignited the fire and couldn’t help saying, ”Your paws are incredible! I’ve never seen such dexterous paws.”

”Haha, but of course,”

Chen Wen extended his hand, gently tapping the stoat’s head with his finger, which pleased the stoat greatly.

”Come on, let’s get ready for a meal. I sense Old Wolf has returned.”

Saying that, Chen Wen crawled out of the shelter.

His [Territorial Consciousness] and perception enhancement keywords informed him that Old Wolf had entered the territory range.

Besides, it had returned with food.

Soon, accompanied by a flicker of ghostly light, Old Wolf limped to the shelter’s periphery.

It opened its mouth and dropped a dead Arctic hare onto the ground.

”I brought back some prey!”

Old Wolf’s voice was full of fatigue.

Chen Wen nodded with a smile, gesturing for Old Wolf to come over.

Meanwhile, he whistled for the other animals to gather around.

”Time to eat soon!”

Chen Wen first announced exciting news for the animals.

The Wolf Mink, with its love for food, couldn’t sit still and let out excited roars.

The red fox and the North American gray wolf remained more reserved.

However, they were both quite pleased.

The Eagle was not as excited, having already eaten well enough at the lake.

There it had eaten quite a bit of North American porcupine innards, as well as some white pike guts.

But the Eagle was quite interested in Chen Wen’s shelter at the moment.

It felt the shelter was well-built, aligning well with its aesthetic.

As for the stoat, apart from the keen North American gray wolf, none of the other animals noticed it.

”But before eating, I have some things to say,”

Taking advantage of the current abundance of food, Chen Wen planned to establish rules.

He glanced around; there were already five special animals beside him now.

Wolf Mink, greedy, aggressive, fierce.

Red Fox, cunning, cautious, alert.

North American Gray Wolf, cunning, experienced, witty.

Stoat, temperamental, vigilant, agile.

Eagle, timid, fierce, aloof.

The five animals each varied in personality, with a range of habits.

Without established rules, conflicts would be inevitable, so rules were necessary!
